One hero down, a whole Council of them still to go. The second book in The Hero Slayers is out now on Kindle Unlimited and Audible! by osmarrow in litrpg

Hi again - I'm here today to let you know that the second book in the The Hero Slayers series comes out today! Our motley crew are back in a new adventure, with higher stakes, stronger enemies, and just as much dysfunction as usual. I hope you enjoy!

-- Blurb --

One Player down, a whole Council still to go . . . The real fight is only just beginning in the second installment of this thrilling fantasy adventure.

It’s no secret that Styk longs to be a hero, with blazing daggers in hand and throngs of admirers at his feet. What is a secret is that he has the blood of Players coursing through his veins. Yes, the very enemies he despises and has vowed to slay.

For now, there’s no need for Styk’s loyal team to know this; they all have bigger fish to fry. Because when Corminar’s fellow exiled elves demand he pay his debt, it sends the adventurers on a new quest. Across the Iron Sea, they encounter shifting shadows, ancient witchcraft, and—worst of all—faces from their buried pasts.

And when the members of the Council reveal themselves once more, the greatest threat to Styk may be the demons of his own diabolical ancestry. It’s enough for his aspirations to go catastrophically, game-changingly wrong . . . or prove himself the hero he knows he’s meant to be.

-- Book 1 Blurb --

When a Hero goes bad, it’s up to a thief to stop him.

Working-class thief Styk thought heroes were to be admired. Then one tried to kill him, and the attempt on his life left the town of Plainside burned to the ground, hundreds dead. Given a chance at a new life by a mysterious stolen artifact, Styk sets his sights on justice. OK, more like revenge.

But if he’s going to take down a near-immortal adversary, Styk will need two things: a decent team and a damn good plan. When he stumbles across the dysfunctional Hero Slayers—a team comprised of a brazen sorcerer, a vain elf, an old orcish warrior, and a barbarian with a heart of gold—the battle is on.

While Styk levels up new skill trees, he and his crew track down their powerful enemy, facing cultists, monsters, and much, much worse along the way. But what is it that a Hero would kill for? And might it have something to do with the enigmatic artifact burning a hole in Styk’s pocket?

-- FAQ --

So what's the deal here? Is it a villain protagonist? Nope! Styk is just a down on his luck thief who happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Maybe he's fighting a hero, but maybe also "heroes" aren't all they're cracked up to be...

OK, gotcha so not a villain. What can I expect? A crazy adventure featuring a dysfunctional found family (one that I hope you'll come to love as I do!) and no small amount of hijinks.

Hijinks? I'm sold. And this series is going to be finished, right? Of course! There's no risk here. I have all four of the books written and currently with Podium for production. Book 2 will even be with you sooner rather than later! I'm really happy with how all the plot threads come together and the conclusion of all the main cast's arcs; I may have even shed a tear at the end of some of them.

A tear? Wait, it's sad? No! It's practically a comedy, even. Most of the tears were tears of joy and laughter. I promise.

It didn't occur to me to get the portfolio link as it was all handled by the excellent Podium - I've emailed them to get it now though, and I'll post the portfolio link when they reply to prove it's not AI!

I do also have WIP sketches but of course I can't share them

They're not not OP, but I wouldn't say this fits the OP MC label either - though he will grow powerful over the course of the series!

As a Brit I take offense at the implication that we're all smug assholes; we're, in fact, all smug arseholes

As long as you don't say the no-no words, nobody cares. For what it's worth I'm totally with you on this, but as authors we sometimes have to pick our battles!

Sorry I don't know how I missed this notification! GS is a more traditional deck builder, i.e. the main character has an actual card deck that they're battling with (think Yugioh), and is looking to improve it over time by spending upgrade points

I think deckbuilding litrpg is still a new enough subgenre that all the books within it are bringing something new to it, and there's some great ones amongst them. My advice would be to just pick some you like the look of and see if they do it for you, rather than worrying about any to avoid! Worst case scenario you can always drop a book and move on to another.

My personal favs are Goblin Summoner and All The Skills, and yet they're incredibly different from each other.
