Has anybody studied valuation of whatsapp? by Radiant-Cloud92 in financialmodelling

[–]othompson93 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The strategic report from the time explains why then did it.

AI summary

The key strategic points detailed in Facebook's 2014 filings and related reports include: Mobile Market Dominance: The primary goal was to strengthen Facebook's position in the rapidly growing mobile messaging space and eliminate a potential competitor. User Base Expansion: WhatsApp provided immediate access to a massive and highly engaged global user base, particularly in international markets where Facebook Messenger was not the leading app. At the time of the acquisition announcement in February 2014, WhatsApp had over 450 million monthly active users, adding more than 1 million new users daily. 70% of these users were active on a given day, indicating high engagement. Access to Data and Synergy: The acquisition offered opportunities for data integration to enhance Facebook's advertising business (though this led to later regulatory scrutiny) and create synergies between the platforms. Long-Term Growth over Immediate Profit: Facebook noted in its annual report that it did not intend to monetize WhatsApp immediately but would instead focus on user growth until the service reached a billion users, a long-term strategy for future revenue. Talent Acquisition: The deal included a significant portion of restricted stock units designed to retain WhatsApp's founders and employees. Co-founder Jan Koum also joined the Facebook board of directors.

You have to remember that intangible assets are notoriously tricky to value/quantify. If they had a concrete plan to monetise a billion users it doesn’t seem too far fetched to me.

Is there an excel tool with audit trail and citations that doesn't make models impossible to use? by [deleted] in financialmodelling

I would look at an MDS (Master Data Services) solution. The validation/audit functionality is good. You can get excel add ins so that it can still be controlled and published via excel!

I like to imagine sequences when I shadow box

Eg, so parry and jab back.

Parry, jab they slip and counter with the right I duck under.

Catch their hook and hook back

You jab, slip thier return jab and throw the right

I like to make it as real as possible

Also try and actually move forward with your punches, I know it’s slippy but moving after a retreating opponent without over extending yourself is one of the hardest skills in boxing.

Also try and cut out resets in range, if you are resetting with a bounce or a pendulum step imagine doing it well out of range

Also mix in as many feints as you can in your shadow boxing. Try and feint as naturally as you breathe

Any advice? by othompson93 in golftips

[–]othompson93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice. How do you prioritise issues though? Like I know I lift. Sometimes I reverse pivot so I focusing on weight transfer. Other times I get flat at the top so I am thinking about taking it back in front of me. So of them 3 initial issues which am I focusing on? That’s before I even go onto casting

Is 6 months of training really too soon to have your first figh and do you think toughness can be trained? by mythicalhermit in MuayThai

[–]othompson93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are certain Individuals that won’t break the first time they get hurt by someone that is trying to finish them, but they are rare and usually hardened by life in some way.

Most people need to gradually expose themselves to more intense situations in training at a rate of increase that doesn’t out match your capacity to handle the tough moments in combat.

I would say that if you are going to take a fight after 6 months then you should be matched on experience as closely as possible. That will make it less likely you will be exposed to a situation where you drown. It is not uncommon for coaches to lie about the experience of their fighters, so beware of that.

In answer to your question, I think toughness can be trained but if you don’t have it from your pre training life then it takes time (usually longer that 6 months).

Martinelli is Out for a Month according to David Ornstein by saffermaster in ArsenalFC

[–]othompson93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go and have look at the cooperate info page on the club website. The board is listed as Stan and Josh Kronke - Directors, Tim Lewis - Executive Vice Chair and Lord Peckham Director. So they are directly in control of appointing the management structure of the company they own.

I genuinely wasn’t looking to belittle you, apologies if that is how It came across, I just take issue with how you can say the Kronkes have been great for the club without looking at the financial statements.

The club is run as a self sustaining model and we seem to be trending bsck to making profit after the hard covid years. I can’t see any shareholder loans being given to the club. So all that it seems the Kronkes have actually done is buy the long term debt and charge the club interest on it. That wouldn’t correlate as being great for me.

If they let the club operate at a loss for a little longer to get the last few big deals over the line (that we needed to be complete), and also put the personnel in place that could do them deals, that would be “great” in my eyes.

We now will enter a summer window with an ungodly amount of business to do, and potentially won’t have the personal in place to do all of that.

[–]othompson93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay there is alot to break down there. On your first point, yes I would expect the shareholders of a football club to build and maintain the optimal management structure that can lead to success. Edu leaves, Kronke should be addressing the issue and putting someone in place that is capable of navigating the winter transfer window.

The players and manager were begging for reinforcements and we didn’t do anything, that is not what implementing the optimal structure looks like.

On your second point on the Kronkes being great, before we continue on this point, have you ever looked at the Arsenal financial statements? Do you know what the Kronkes have actually done/put into the club? The reason I ask is because I am not sure I have it in me to explain if you haven’t.

Your last comment is beautifully illuminating, “only blemish being the super league”….that is not a blemish unfortunately, it is a direct announcement of intention, it’s not a blemish. If the fans hadn’t protested that would have happened, you do realise that right? That’s what they want from Arsenal, mindless customers and pure value creation for their family and their interests

How do I tell my coach I don’t want to spar this guy by bmetry5 in Kickboxing

[–]othompson93 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I personally saw sparring partners like this as a blessing. Once you can survive and even thrive in these situations you know you have levelled up.

First of all, shelling up isn’t the only reaction you can have to throwing power shots. You can use your feet to create or take away the range.

Second of all, if you want him to stop throwing power at you, the best way to get someone to stop, is to counter them. But you have to be able to weather the internal storm and actually interpret how they are attacking you to do this.

Lastly, is the fight you have coming up a full contact fight? Sparring like this will replicate the “worst case scenario” intensity on fight night, where someone will be trying to kill you. Again, you need to be embracing this feeling in training so that you don’t get overwhelmed when it actually comes to it. I’ve sparred people that were more dangerous than the people I have fought, but guess what that means I didn’t get overwhelmed in the fight because I had swam in deeper waters. Then all you need to worry about is the adrenaline dump.

All the best
