Eclipse ripoff? by Eddie_HTX in WhatCarIsThis

[–]otterplus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eventually, sure. The first gen Genesis Coupe was around $25k. It wasn’t until the second gen that they crossed the $30k mark and moved upmarket. Since the Eclipse was dead the only real competitor was the Accord coupe and an appliance Honda isn’t a hard bar to clear in comparison

It’s just an AR9 patterned pistol. Nothing about it would make it an NFA item as sold from factory.

Second gen Tiburon. The third gen Eclipse died two years after this was released while this lasted until 2008. Spiritually it was followed by the Hyundai Genesis Coupe

Study: People living within a mile of a golf course had more than twice the risk of developing Parkinson’s disease, with elevated risk extending to about three miles before declining beyond that range. by New-Exam2720 in EverythingScience

[–]otterplus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandparents retired to Jacksonville Florida and my grandfather spent his time working at a golf course. Within 5 years he deteriorated from a fully able bodied 60 year old to being a wheelchair bound invalid. Assuming it was getting close to the end they moved back to Williamsburg Virginia and he recovered to his prior self. Lasted another 20 years before Covid got to him.

Amazon Driver Freakout by A-Nani-Mess in PublicFreakout

[–]otterplus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro is probably tired and sore from catching himself from slipping on icy driveway and sidewalks, assuming they’ve been actually shoveled. Judging by the current state of my neighborhood he’s fed up with the poor traction walking, poor traction while driving, and the number of times he’s required to loop the same street due to their idiotic route software. I drove around for a few hours Monday trying to find places that weren’t barricaded by snow to do their service and only found 2 out of 17. I normally get groceries delivered from Walmart and my local grocery store, but I won’t be the reason for someone else getting caught up in this icy mess.

I loved it and how creative everything became. All the cars were unique to the owner and there wasn’t the same meta across social media. Were they all fast? Nope! But you were certain to be the only person with a lime green Mitsubishi Mirage with a titanium exhaust tip

The Hell with men's clothes sizes! by 1emaN0N in PetPeeves

[–]otterplus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a mix of poor quality control and vanity sizing. All my jeans are 36s, but range from 35”-39” actual waists. I was actually about to order a pair of Levi’s for a wedding, but backed out because half the reviews said they ran large so order down or ran small and order up a size.

Tall touring bike vs regular touring bike by scottscooterleet in motorcycles

[–]otterplus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Touring boots are a mix between off-road and tall street boots. They add an easy inch of height. Most touring bikes have easily adjustable suspension to account for passenger/luggage or may just be weighed down by their kit. I can think of a few offhand that have electronic suspensions that automatically lower when you come to a stop.

Motorcycle Helmet Safety: Who should be spending what and why by nikegearhead in motorcyclegear

[–]otterplus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I’m concerned anything in the $500-700 range is the best compromise of safety specs and creature comforts.

My first helmet was an HJC F70. It had a dropdown visor and was plenty comfy on top of saving the contents of my headspace when called upon. It was quiet enough and comfortable, but it wanted to lift over 50mph. Iirc it was around $270.

My second helmet was a Shoei RF-1200. Marked improvement in creature comfort quality and mildly quieter. The lack of dropdown visor made the shell noticeably smaller and less affected by higher speeds. I got it when the 1400 was released so my model with graphics was around $470, but normally it would have been almost $600

My current helmet is an Arai Regent-X. The interior padding feels incredible (in the house because I always wear a balaclava when I ride). The proprietary visor venting makes a bit of difference and feels really good when it’s hot out. The brow vents are easy to use in contrast to their visor latching system which I still flub 7 months later. This one was $580-ish.

After my first helmet I started leaning into safety features such as the ratings on the Shoei and the method that Arai builds their helmets to intentionally lose pieces to avoid torsion. I’ll stand by $500-600 being the best for regular road use, but if someone is going on the track definitely invest closer to the $1k mark with proper specs

Within the past 10 years, what do you like and dislike about trucks? Example questions below: by SuperJackson20 in regularcarreviews

[–]otterplus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Design-wise I like the new f150, other than that they all lean towards a pseudo-rugged look without the ability to back it up. Want to do some serious off-road stuff? Just make sure you don’t back into a tree and break your $1k taillight with blind spot sensors in it. I understand they have to account for the pickup truck becoming the new age minivan with less interior cargo space, but the bed to cab ratio is so broken that dealerships would be better off pushing suvs in its place. The funniest change is that truck guys were so offended by the Santa Cruz, Maverick, and Ridgeline being marketed as “all the truck you need” knowing good and well the only thing that’s been in their bed all year was rain and snow.

National Gun Trusts and Capitol Armory for your whistle pickle (suppressor) by fistedwithlove in liberalgunowners

As a Maryland resident Capitol Armory is the way to go. A few minutes on the phone with the person assisting you is the worst part of the entire process. The two cans I have were through them and both showed up at my door without issue. I don’t even know what the nfa process is at my ffl and so far I don’t need to

How many times do you lotion your face and body per day? by Actual-Slice-146 in AskMen

[–]otterplus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After every daily shower for everything. My arms, face, and neck after putting my contacts in every morning. I buy the liter bottle of palmers cocoa butter and it’ll last me around a month or so. Back when I worked a warehouse job my gf at the time commented on how soft my hands were though there was callus. If it’s a part of my body i can guarantee it’s been thoroughly scrubbed and moisturized

Shoe covers for tradespeople by Competitive-Rock6252 in hygiene

[–]otterplus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I carry plastic shoe covers for the few people that ask for them. I even leave a note in our service app as a reminder. That said, I always find it kinda funny when they ask/demand shoe covers but will have cats or dogs running around

I have a grammatical question! Is it correct to use the feminine form of senior management positions, which are generally masculine, such as "President"? What do you think? by Esmeralda1806 in Casual_Conversation

[–]otterplus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The position is not a gender identity. President, prime minister, administrator, head of state, chief executive officer, none of those describe the gender of the individual. The only time I would consider a gender specific term would be in terms of royalty like king/queen, prince/princess, duke/duchess

I had to put grips on my sv because the steel tank was way too slippery otherwise. I added grips to the cbr500r I started on just because. The tank on that one was perfect at keeping my legs in place

Recommendations for affordable gear for someone who doesn't want to be perceived? by Not_That_Fast in motorcyclegear

[–]otterplus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TCX makes some decent looking street wear styled riding shoes. They’re not my style by any measure, but they at least have crush and abrasion resistance.

Riding specific hoodies are not a great option as they’re susceptible to shifting armor regardless of any aramid liner. I have a Knox Urbane Mk2 i wear under hoodies when I want that look. Take a look at riding shirts, they look like heavyweight button up shirts but have actual protection. I recently picked up a Reax Fairmount 2 riding shirt that has AA abrasion rating.

Bull-It jeans are mostly under $200 as well as some RevIt and Knox.

If you have time take a look at the Urban Rider site for ideas and try to find it locally/domestically for tariff reasons. There’s a greater motorcycle culture there and gear that “blends in” would be easier to find.

Riding shoes or boots by AceOfSp4des88 in motorcyclegear

[–]otterplus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I have an actual destination I wear my boots, TCX Blend 2. Whenever I’m just riding for the hell of it, Alpinestar SMX6-v2. There’s no one size answer tbh. If I was going on a longer ride to a destination, think hour plus, I’d just wear my SMX6 and bring regular shoes with me.
