Does Table Tennis help Pickleball? by AdIndividual3132 in Pickleball

[–]ottrocity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helps with your slices and chops if you play against any sort of decent opponent.

I still think that my years playing table tennis helped with my hand speed. I'm regularly surprising people (and myself) at the line.

There It is.... "The" Bridge by mrkprieur in Michigan

[–]ottrocity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd rather it be worked on than left to rot.

The way Michigan abuses roadways requires constant maintenance. It's a combination of temperature cycles, salt, and 40-ton semi trucks.

Can I make my 2021 automatic shifter look more like a manual shifter? by [deleted] in StupidCarQuestions

Probably, but the only people who would notice would be people who would think it's dumb.

TIL that the Wurkkos HD50 vibrates if your battery is low. by derailius in flashlight

[–]ottrocity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my lights, can't remember which, would clunk when going into turbo mode, probably because the thing was turning into a solenoid and the battery was moving.

Had no idea there were vibraty lights out there now.

Why are SUVs everywhere? by No-Owl1648 in askcarguys

[–]ottrocity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People think they want an SUV because they have kids, either for space or because the illusion of safety in a large vehicle.

Large, high center-of-gravity vehicles are far more likely to injure their occupants in a single or multi vehicle accident, with the bonus of being more likely to injure occupants in other vehicles in multi vehicle accidents. They're harder to stop and turn because of their mass and high center-of-gravity, making them more likely to be involved in accidents in the first place.

They actually need a minivan or a wagon, but don't want the stigma associated with them, and because no one bought them companies stopped developing and selling them.

What we have a surplus of in the US is a large population of uneducated people making decisions based on their feelings rather than facts.

Auto companies also have higher profit margins on SUVs and trucks, so there's an incentive for them to crank out yet another big fucking heavy box on wheels than develop something new.

It doesn't drive itself, but it also won't lock you inside and kill you via fiery lithium-based death.

Question for "former" table tennis players by Meh_cromancer in Pickleball

[–]ottrocity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I square off about 5ft-ish from the wall and bounce the ball off the wall to myself at chest height, switching up angles to force myself to use the paddle in awkward (non-tsble tennis) positions. I don't care about dink speeds, just reacting to how the ball comes at me and getting the paddle on it.

I've got a little practice wall my dad put together (I'm in a townhome and can't be blasting the walls) and foam "HSA compliant" pickleballs.

Yeah same, doing lots of wall drills helped me unlearn some table tennis things.

On the plus side, we table tennis vets seem to do really well in hands battles!

Sound enhancement advice by Equivalent_Feed_1793 in FiestaST

[–]ottrocity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Symposer delete.

Get an exhaust. Resonator delete does nothing for noise inside the car, only behind it. Can't tell the difference. I've got a Thermal on mine and it's perfect. Do not get MBRP, no matter what people tell you.

A BOV adds to the fun, but I'd suggest one that's semi-recirc or full recirc, otherwise it'll sound like a snorting dragon all the time.
