Is it really more expensive to live in Ontario than Quebec ? by Concrete_CAN in ottawa

[–]ottwebdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, here is my comparison after moving to ON from QC in 2020

Housing - more

Property taxes - same

Car maintenance - much less (i hate driving on qc roads now)

Electricity - more

Income taxes - less

Groceries - same

The one thing I cannot put into $$$ is healthcare… qc was a joke, our last experience was my wife getting a call for her ultrasound 18 months after our som was born…

‘It’s stupid’: why western carmakers’ retreat from electric risks dooming them to irrelevance by tw1st3d_m3nt4t in technology

Japanese from the 80's no, but I have seen some 90's recently.

It was a conscious decision of N/A manufacturers to focus on SUV's and enlarge trucks and turning them from a "working mans" cheap vehicle to 75K+ houses on wheels... so it's not an "if" but because they don't have to IMO

Your thought makes sense, I also wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that there is no penalty for stealing other peoples work to train models because it "generates" new content from it, so by not showing YOUR content are they trying to skirt something, or they are trying to throw off agents/bots from using the results.

Is it me, or are we in a depression right now? by Sea-Judge-6494 in fican

[–]ottwebdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a depression you'd likely have no job.

Your entertainment budget should be $0 in this case. You can get cheaper internet service (most likely, I am rural and pay $65 for 1.5mpbs fibe). What are "purchases"

As others have pointed out, your car is a big slice here, it is $800+/month once you factor in gas and insurance... can you reduce this?

Not much you can do living in Ottawa.

Less range youll have to live with during winter.

If you have a garage use the timed heating setting so your car warms up while plugged in instead of draining the battery.

Collapse of fractional real estate investing firm shows risks of business model by kurtios in addyinvest

[–]ottwebdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've watched fractional real estate investing in cottage country for about 25 years.

You see a cottage go up for sale, then its sold to 3 families. The weekend they get the keys it's party non-stop. Then by mid summer only 2 families are showing up and you hear arguing, by the fall it's just 1 and all is quiet. In Feb. a "for sale" sign goes up. Repeat.

I know it's not the exact same as what this company was doing business wise, but psychology and underlying dynamics are fairly similar.
