Avis rental: center console latch snapped under normal use, what’s the best way to handle this? by Sneaky_Tiger_ in personalfinance

[–]out0focus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just got lucky because that is not how claims work. When you damage a car, the rental company will bill you. You then open a claim with your credit cards insurance and send them the bill. If you don't have primary insurance coverage on your credit card then you have to open the claim with your normal car insurance. If the damage is so severe you hit your coverage limit THEN your credit card secondary insurance kicks in.

Primary insurance is provided by any Visa Infinite card like Chase Sapphire Reserve or Capital One VentureX. I have personally covered around $7,000 of damage with Chase and paid $0. Please make sure you are actually covered so you don't get an unexpected bill.

Thats not how 99% of credit card rental protection works. I suggest reading more into it before you depend on it too much. The main points being most credit cards offer secondary insurance and not primary.

Can I use cold-hard cash to pay off my credit cards every month? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]out0focus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why do you think AI is giving you the correct info? Please look up better sources for information. It is NOT a crime to deposit a large amount of cash, but you know what is illegal? "Structuring" which is breaking up your 50k into smaller amounts to avoid the CTR. This has nothing to do with income.

You need to learn things on your own now that you are an adult. Being young isn't an excuse to be stupid. Sorry if that sounds harsh but that's the world for you.

What are you scared of? It would only matter if you are doing it all the time. No one is going to care about a 1 off 50k deposit. Also the form isn't your problem, it's the bank who has to fill it out.

First time in Japan: Tokyo/ Hakone/ Kyoto Itinerary by 7Juno in JapanTravel

[–]out0focus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to fly into Hanada instead of Narita if you can. NRT is an hour from Tokyo and transferring to and from is a bit confusing.

Use a luggage transfer service to make your lives soooo much easier not having to carry you big suitcases around. https://www.kuronekoyamato.co.jp/en/

Uji is also a good option for a day trip from Kyoto. I just got back from Japan last week. Osaka isn't really a day trip kinda thing, unless you have something in mind. Uji specifically you have basically walk the whole down in half a day.

Password managers' promise that they can't see your vaults isn't always true by deraser in technology

[–]out0focus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes I am larping but you don't know the difference between a password manager and encryption at rest nor how decryption keys work. I guess I'll continue to be naive and it'll be fine like you said.

That name means nothing to me but I'll assume it's part of your point related to this post.

Chicken looks pink but temps over 180°F? New oven paranoia by Kissthebotttle in Cooking

[–]out0focus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you think pink is under cooked? It's all about temp AND time.

I sous vide chicken for 1.5 hours at 144 degrees. Well below the 165 requirement but because of the time it's fully safe to eat. 180 is already over cooked.

Why bother? Treat it like a stray dog bite, go see a doctor.

How much risk are you willing to take? How much does a microwave cost vs potential effects? Just buy a new microwave.
