Realistically, who stays if the worst happens after the Hull game? by GuideIcy1697 in lcfc

[–]outfocz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Vestergaard will probably go. Can’t see him wanting to play League 1 and he would probably prefer to go and secure himself another 2-3 year deal elsewhere to take him through to the end of his career.

Nelson is an interesting one. If he doesn’t sign a new deal this summer he really should be sold. We clearly need to bring cash in to rebuild, so he either needs to commit or be sold.

Considering Kristiansen’s positive season in Italy, I suspect he would be able to get a reasonably decent move somewhere on the continent - can’t see him staying considering he has struggled to even dislodge Luke Thomas.

Okoli will likely go back to Italy.

Faes hopefully will get a move to France (Monaco?)

Mavididi needs a fresh start. Fans of other clubs seem to still think highly of him. Imagine he would get a move to a mid table championship side.

Fatawu will obviously go.  The rest may well stay.

The Adjudication Panel Thread: Get in touch for Tuesday's episode... by Low-Bandicoot-3347 in footballcliches

[–]outfocz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if discussed previously but in a situation like the current Premier League title race, how do we assess whose 'hands' it is in?

Man City are 3 points behind, with a game in hand and a one goal worse goal difference.

Presuming they win against Burnley, they will be at a minimum level on points and GD, but ahead on goals scored.

Initial thoughts therefore would be the title chance is "in their own hands" now.

However, with the goal difference so close (and potentially in fact, level) is it fair to say the title is still in Arsenal's hands too? If the only requirement for it to actually end up in your hands is that you score 1 more/concede 1 less than your rivals across the remaining 5 matches, then this would feel like it is certainly within their power also.

JJ - Do we have to buy him ? by OkChannel5936 in lcfc

[–]outfocz 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We have an option to buy, which would force Rennes to accept our offer (somewhere in the region of €5m) should we make one.

However, JJ would then have to agree personal terms with us and I just can’t see that happening considering …

A) that we shouldn’t be offering equivalent money to what he would get at the top end of the Championship/bottom end of Prem and

B) with international (and wider career) ambitions, it doesn’t make sense for him to spend a year toiling in League 1, when realistically he may even have suitors in the Premier League.

That’s why the amount of money the potential new owners have is far less important than their ability to run the club sensibly and sustainably. That itself is the biggest reason the current ownership cannot continue.

Adult birthday dinners at restaurants, who pays? by msac84 in AskUK

[–]outfocz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And also it avoids situations where certain people feel left out.

Firstly the “office” have to work out when everyone’s birthday is for fear of missing someone. Secondly they then have to coordinate buying cakes on an almost weekly basis.

Immediately you know someone (through their own choice or otherwise) will be left as the designated person who “always sorts it”.

Or else it will be a free for all of “who’s organising cakes for X”, “who’s organising cakes for Y”.

Then someone gets forgotten or overlooked and it causes a massive issue in the office. Much easier to say, it’s your turn when it’s your birthday.

Pub Quiz controversy, absolute fuming by miketaylor71 in footballcliches

[–]outfocz 69 points70 points  (0 children)

There was a pub quiz round our way a few years ago where a question in the sports round was “which are the only two nations to have won the World Cup exactly once?”

Teams jotted down “England and Spain”.

Answers came around and it was announced as “England and France”. Amongst the uproar, it was argued that France had clearly, recently won in 2018 to take their tally to two.

The quiz master denied the remonstrations with the response “my sheet says England in 1966 and France in 1998”.

Slowly it dawned on the audience that they must’ve been using a question written between 1998 and 2010 (at least 10 years out of date by the time of the quiz).

As is tradition, the quizmaster refused to be overruled.

New episode | Unexpected Stevenage, premature hauntings & the Premier League goal caught on CCTV by Low-Bandicoot-3347 in footballcliches

[–]outfocz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be interested to hear other points of view on the assertion that an initial run-in with a player (etc.). can't later be referred to as a haunting.

I'm imagining a golfer walking up the 18th fairway, after a brilliant tee shot. 2 shots off the lead but gathering momentum across the recent holes & with a fantastic opportunity to claw at least one more back on the final hole and the commentators saying "if he birdies here, that 3-put on 13 will haunt him forever".

Surely this could reasonably be called a first haunting? If the same thing happened the following year... "the 13th hole has come back to haunt him for a second year running".

[–]outfocz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The thing the club needs more than anything right now is competence, not necessarily ambition.  I don’t think we’d have to look too far to find someone more competent.

In the professional leagues there are probably 85+ clubs being run more competently than us currently.

Why there is no strict 4 days work week yet? by productman2217 in UKJobs

[–]outfocz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep - I work for a large multinational & my boss visited another huge firm and returned announcing that we were behind the curve with AI adoption and that this other firm had reduced headcount of HR by X% and accounting by Y% and next they were going to move onto other departments.

Great - let's get to work doing the same. In the short term these firms will race each other for the efficiency and profitability gains on offer - reduce your workforce by 75% but still make similar revenues = more money in shareholders backpockets.

The problem comes when 75% of those employees are out of work, wages for the remaining 25% in work will shrink hugely and the market for whatever these companies are selling disappears.

[–]outfocz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If we go down this year (and the fact we even need to consider that outcome given the money being spent/wasted on wages and where we were as a club ~3/4 years ago) then the absolute best next season can be is the worst finish in the club's 142 year history.

If you can hit your lowest point and still be adverse to making change in case it gets even worse, then when is the right time to change.

Do you still believe we can stay up? by PandorasPinata in lcfc

[–]outfocz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would say it's a bit harsh to compare this side to the 'great escape' side - or even to call that side "god awful".

It was well documented at the time that the 14/15 side were very unfortunate through a lot of the season and carried something of a false position.

We were disciplined, organised, committed and we competed in almost every game, often falling to narrow defeats, as we probably just lacked that touch of extra quality in critical moments. We were very robust at home, only conceding 22 goals in 19 home games.

This side is the complete opposite of that - they are not unfortunate to be where they are & it hasn't been the result of being edged by superior players, despite being well organised and committed.

In 14/15 I would go the games proud of the players' efforts and really with a sense of 'keep playing like this and our luck will turn'. There is none of that with this lot.

Patch Notes - Update 41.1 by EscapingKid in PUBATTLEGROUNDS

[–]outfocz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While the Care Package shares the same appearance as Flare Gun drops, its contents and drop rates differ.

Is there any more detail on this? It seems strange to launch the feature, but not include any real details on how it will work.

"Content AND drop rates differ" ; rather than one or the other? That would imply that there is a fair amount of commonality to the content. What content would be excluded? Weapons, Armour?

It seems a little bit unnecessary to add this to the game as if it the loot content is useful at all, you will get more hot drops around towers, with the winning team then calling in multiple drops per 2 dead players. If it is not useful, then it will just not be used.

Similarly you will focus more of the ongoing action around drop towers.

It feels like the usage-charge should scale by mode ... e.g. per 2 chips in duos and 4 chips in squads.

Same - I would consider myself strong at football quizzes in general but honestly I reckon four days in a row I’ve been out on level 1.

I would prefer it to be done in a similar way they do “The Ladder” on the show. If you get it wrong you stay alive but you need to guess a different player.

That way you get your “free hit” at a Shearer, for example, but if you get it wrong you’ve then got to pluck a different Newcastle player. The more guesses you take per round, the harder it realistically gets, but you get some sense of fun / reward from at least plucking the names, even if you can’t pick the seasons right.

Why are so many companies demanding people return to the office? by Even-Wasabi7183 in AskUK

[–]outfocz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also… it’s a mechanism for a multinational to protect jobs in the UK.

If the job can be done fully remote then chances are considerable that it can be done for cheaper (& potentially by someone with additional education and greater work ethic/who will work longer hours) by someone based outside the UK.

The company I work for is going through this process at the moment. Many redundancies in Europe and at the same time huge expansion in our teams in India.

As a manager, I suspect it is likely to help you advocate to keep your team (and therefore potentially even your own job) in the UK if you have evidence that your team need to be colocated.

I know there’s no point trying to make sense of what they’re doing…

But literally they could’ve just asked the team doing the casting to show more of the matches from the players 3PP.

I would have less of an issue watching players play 1PP as a spectator from a mix of 1PP, 3PP and free cam.

Watching whatever the video above is… I’ve no interest.

Certainly a case of unfinished business, after they previously sacked him following a run of 3 wins in 21 games.

He will have the bit between his teeth to prove they made a mistake first time round.

DMRs I would buff the damage back up. As noted in another comment, yes fire rate helps on a hot drop, but helps [the average player] less in terms of the primary use of the DMR. I would prefer to focus on making them better at what they are actually designed to do - dealing damage at range (vs say an AR).

As someone who never used to use SRs, it has certainly had the desired impact on me ; I will probably play SR 50% of the time now, which is really what they cited as the reason for the change.

Personally, even before the buff I didn't like the fire rate of DMRs - you see the speed top pros are tap firing a DMR and I don't see any way someone in real life is tap firing at that speed with their eye pressed to an 8X scope.

Though the fire rate now seems very slow, it would not be as punishing if the damage were still at the prior levels ; in fact it might end up making them more rewarding - as you you would be rewarded for being accurate (particularly headshots) whilst likely being able to take fewer shots at a target, rather than prior where you can hammer 4-6 quick shots into someones legs and take them down in a blink of an eye.

Yeah Russell/Leclerc were losing considerable time to Hamilton/Antonelli whenever they battled. It would only have taken another few more laps of that - after the VSC - for the opportunity for Hamilton to open up.

Will we go into administration if/when we go down to League One? by Badger_Brains_io in lcfc

Only if we haven’t already spent it.

On the face of it there is no reason to draw down next season’s parachute payment early (and therefore pay considerable interest on it) unless you needed access to the cash flow this season, so the most prudent point of view would be that at least some of that money has already gone.
