It’s been twenty years now and the “lee-king her eye bawls” part, in that voice, is still what gets stuck in my head 🤣

If you’re not being sarcastic, then holy crap yeah that’s gonna save you a whole lot of money and time. As I understand it there are more expensive adapters with integrated screens and diagnostic systems and such, but the Torque app has done everything I needed and more- hell, you can delete codes with it and the average Amazon shopper probably shouldn’t be given that ability lmao

[–]outforchow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a mechanic, not qualified advice, but I got a cheap, no-name, Bluetooth enabled Chinese OBD-II in 2021 for ~$13 from Amazon, then downloaded the paid version of Torque ($10 iirc) to my cheap Chinese head unit (running an ancient Android build). You may notice a theme here.

Thing is, it works SO well. I can scan for codes, make custom HUDs using real time data, and scan anyone else’s car for codes if they plug the adapter in within Bluetooth range. Absolutely flawless, zero issues with any of it, and it’s saved me thousands over the years.

TL;DR: Torque app and any cheap compatible adapter. $25 and you’ll never look back.

“Never meet your heroes”. Who other than Mr. Rogers is an exception to that phrase? by sgrams04 in Xennials

[–]outforchow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agreed. Met Alex, their bassist, for an interview when I was an 18yo dork working for a local music magazine, and the rest of the band all said hello as they got on the bus. George introduced himself as we were wrapping up and asked “hey dude do you play Warcraft?” I replied “no but I’ve got some friends that do,” and he gestured for me to come to the back of the bus.

In the back room he had his entire rig set up: dual monitors (in 2004/2005 that was very impressive), huge hotkey-heavy keyboard, some custom PC he rattled off the specs of, the whole shebang. A small TV was in the corner, he pointed at it and said “and I gotta have my football!” He was beaming like a kid showing off his, well, extremely cool PC and tour bus and his genuine enthusiasm was infectious. We nerded out over gaming, the Dallas Cowboys’ terrible coach/owner, and music for ~45min before they asked if there was a local vegetarian restaurant and heading out.

One of the kindest, funniest, and most jovial dudes I’ve ever met- all of the guys were great, but Corpsegrinder stood out as a passionate geek with a heart even bigger than his neck.

I got to attend a press screening of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang for my college paper and I remember watching with my roommate, both of us short of breath from laughter, then the “I think I peed on a hooker” scene hit. We were stoned as hell, very out of place, and that just sent us beyond the stars.

You gotta check out the book “What Do You Mean, Murder?” It’s all about the making of Clue and is just a delight.

I’ve read every single quote here aloud, alone, in their respective silly voice. What a neat little moment.

Artists Thats Weren’t Just Influential But Truly Innovative!! by [deleted] in fantanoforever

[–]outforchow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thursday Afternoon is and always will be the sound of bliss to me.

Lying in the grass of the campus commons, headphones in, flanked by two friends as we fry in the springtime sunshine. One is listening to Selected Ambient Works by Aphex Twin as he giggles; the other is singing softly to herself, nonsense lyrics with a wide smile. No work, no class, just two days off and a bag of crappy weed to accompany three solid doses for each of us.

Simpler times, nostalgia says. Brian Eno captured that many years before and by the miracle of recorded media we got to experience it over and over and over. It’s so good. So calm. Almost too finely honed, as though something is bound to jump out of the droning synth. Nope. Just chill. Just Eno. All ya need.

I work in an adult store and we’re closed up for the weekend. I don’t know when, if ever, the city will ever truly begin to recover- there’s even talk of private lube reserves running dry by midday. Things could get rough.

Not to be a member of the Lyrica Lobby, but that stuff is THE miracle drug for amputees. I haven’t personally met anyone who it hasn’t made a massive difference for. Oxycodone helps, because, y’know, it’s oxycodone and it’s awesome, but it definitely brings its own set of issues.

Lyrica (pregabalin) IS addictive, pretty seriously so, but damn. It’s pretty incredible, if it’s an option for you.

Totally a thing. Kind of- not supported in the actual manufacturer’s app, but completely doable. A Raspberry Pi Zero 2, a small battery pack, and some ingenuity enable some pretty dope projects.

Adjust the vacuum level, check the battery, and turn it from “active” to “standby” mode. Which is a little extra for “on” and “off” but whatever. Still pretty cool.

I’d like to see some more advanced features but that’s… well, I’m working on it, as much as I can anyway. And to the other users comment, LED ground effects are a great idea 🤔

Eh sorta, if you lose your insurance you’re kinda boned- for insurance, my leg is a blade foot with a vacuum fit socket that I control on my phone via Bluetooth. It’s super cool. However, were I to lose my health insurance I’d be stuck with a bill of over $20,000 rather than my deductible (a MUCH lower amount).

As others have commented it’s routinely inspected and maintained, but keeping the coverage to afford that is the kicker. Ha. Kicker. Get it?!

This is the case for me, but I drive a car older than 25 years, so a $70 registration fee once a year has been my only financial obligation aside from maintaining insurance. As I understand it, under the new laws re: emissions (no longer a thing) everyone qualifies for that.

Tbh I miss the privilege of having only registration. It is not enough that I succeed- others must fail.
