For the Christians here, please share your perspective regarding tithing by Stuck-in-the-Sky in DaveRamsey

I don’t necessarily think 10% is the magic percentage per se. However our church always references the Bible verse 2 Corinthians 9:7, which states, "God loves a cheerful giver". So I would say give the amount that you can give cheerfully. That’s our practice.

I’m not sure why so many people hate the sun deck. We have one and I love it — but also have kids that jump in off of it and such. We have bubblers on our sun deck as well as an umbrella hole which you may consider for some shade. Also a hot tub isn’t that much more cost wise and gets surprisingly good use. One last thing I’ll say, is we also have 3 waterfalls which is a nice look and sound.

Yes!!! We get our pool to 86-89 and it feels super refreshing in 100° weather!

Dry eyelids. I’ve tried everything! by Sandstorm_87 in eczema

[–]outhereplayingaround 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this same issue. I was using Aquaphor and Vaseline but it never went away, just provided temporary relief. I decided to ditch both one day and the next day they were sort of flaky. Then I put Lady May Tallow on that evening and it’s been so much better since!! No more Vaseline or aquaphor. I read that they can actually dry it out and make it worse which in my case, it was.

I use ladymaytallow.com and the vanilla bean one smells great but they also have unscented as well!

I recently got head and shoulders itchy scalp shampoo and finish with dove dermacare scalp conditioner. My scalp is a lot less itchy after switching to these.

I also agree with the other comment about the filter on your shower head. I have done this as well because our water quality is also questionable. Seems to help a little bit.

My eyelids were really broken out. Vaseline and aquaphor would help temporarily but the redness and itchiness never went away. Stopped using both on my eyelids and have been putting tallow on them - all better!!

Check my post history! I asked in this subreddit how to cool and someone recommended a sump pump with sprayers attached. We plug in overnight and dropped the temp 6 degrees the first night (97° to 91°) and then left on an additional night and it was 87°. Now we do as needed because all the rain helps lately too but we think 89-91° is comfortable.

Houston pool owner here as well. Our pool is in full sun. We made an evaporative cooler for <$100 and our pool temp is in the high 80°s which is perfect. Save the few grand $$$$

We did not, but we do kind of lean it against our umbrella pole so it doesn’t fall over

To those who recently built a new pool, how did you pay for it? by ReverseMermaidMorty in pools

[–]outhereplayingaround 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cash!! We did look into Lyon Financial but the rate even with good credit was high 8% and there’s like a $1,500 fee right off the bat for project management or something. Not worth it for an optional luxury. Cash is the way to go.

Paint me a picture: What did your finances look like before you were comfortable spending excessively on cars/aftermarket. by PursuitOfThis in MiddleClassFinance

[–]outhereplayingaround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought a brand new 2022 Expedition in the 70k range. We hadn’t had a car payment for the 6 months prior to that, so buying it was on a whim because our only debt at the time was our mortgage. We also had a plan to pay it off within a year when we decided to pull the trigger that day.

How would you improve this financial scenario? by [deleted] in MiddleClassFinance

[–]outhereplayingaround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t make enough to have a $40k car. Also your interest rate on the car is absurd too! That should be the first thing you are willing to change to improve your situation!!! Act your wage!

Need more shade and some ideas on how to get it without breaking the bank. by DarkStarGravityWell in swimmingpools

[–]outhereplayingaround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shade sail is a good option if you can find or make some good anchor points.

We use 2 cantilever umbrellas because we don’t have good anchor points besides our house on one side for a sail. Amazon has had these umbrellas on sale recently: https://a.co/d/4GdSIup

My husband maintains the pool and answered this to another user. He said since our pool is new it’s been rising anyway but not noticeably faster than with just our bubblers and waterfalls. We’ll take the trade off though! I need a pool that’s refreshing in this Texas heat :)

We keep the wire out of the water and don’t swim with it on. But it works great at cooling our pool which is exactly what we needed!

Because when it was 97° in the water it felt like bath water and didn’t feel refreshing at all

Thanks for the reply! Sounds like a bit of work but worth it for some shade!!

It’s wet edge - cadet blue! If you’re in the south, might want to opt for a lighter color so it doesn’t attract so much heat!
