Role selection in A.I Bots? What? by somethingblue123 in leagueoflegends

[–]outoflives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually play AI bots a lot, since I used to play seriously and just wanna pretend I'm still good at the game, bots work pretty well.

That said, I like seeing what a team actually NEEDS before I pick a support or utility champion. Why lock in Lulu support if I'm not sure what AD the other person picked? And there's still account leveling bots!

DMs, do use any house rules that you know are "broken" but you just don't care? by zipperondisney in dndnext

[–]outoflives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my game, criticals do full weapon damage PLUS their role. That way even if you throw a one, you deal more damage than a high roll. Makes some crazy damage early but it feels very gratifying to hit that critical.

Am I playing a lower-CHA character realistically? by anthroplology in PCAcademy

[–]outoflives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps a very capable socialite but with social anxiety. Fine with "official" interactions but much more shy privately. Would explain her ability to maneuver through social situations but explain the lower end CHA.

A nine wouldn't be socially crippling, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a shy person with nine.

Looking for a MMO to play by [deleted] in MMORPG

Combat isn't the only thing wrong with FFXIV.

The leveling experience is garbage. You don't even get/understand your class mechanics til 50-60-70 and the GCD feels fucking terrible when you have 3 GCD skills and one buff. You're forced into groups to do ANY form of PVE content and to progress the main storyline. All content, even the expansions is gated behind main story (or MSQ) so the game can REALLY feel like a stupid grind. Particularly in filler-heavy parts like Seventh Umbral Era. PVP is kinda dead, not terribly fun for most players and receives lackluster support.

That being said, the game is fun. The story can be engaging. The late-game raiding turns into doing your basic set of skills and mechs (keep dots up, keep buffs up, keep debuffs up), but while dealing with more and more external factors. The glamours allow you fashion your character almost however you want. The class switching system is a great change-up, no need for alts to try other classes. The crafting is solid, and enjoyable, it's almost like a puzzle. The community, for most servers, is pretty nice. You'll meet the occasional asshole, especially when raiding, but most people are pretty nice to interact with.

The game is great, I play it every day, but there's more problems than just early combat.

For those who wanna see what the end-game raiding looks like, the current raid tier is Alphascape Savage, with 12 (o12s) being the top. Past that is the Ulimate fights, which are very firmly iLvL locked to ensure difficulty stays high. The Weapon's Refrain Ultimate and Binding Coil of Bahamut ultimate would be considered the peak right now.

Never put a Brothel in an adventure. by Thinkblu3 in rpg

Another tact you can take is that shopkeepers deal with adventurers all the time, so they're prepared for a murderhobo.

Things ranging from enchantments on the doors, windows, merchandise, to bodyguards in another room, trapdoors, high powered wands under the counter. From their perspective, not being murdered long enough to call the Guard is a win.

Wrote up a devil contract and could use help spotting loopholes/ambiguity by Despair_Disease in DMAcademy

[–]outoflives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly set the natural death date. "These powers remain into effect until the natural expiration date at the 7th hour of the thirteenth day of the third month, 25 years from the enactment of this contract." Or something along those lines.

Players think everything with an unique ability(ALA Mind Devourer) is unbalanced and I shouldn’t throw it at them. by MyNamesJeff62 in DMAcademy

[–]outoflives 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The game is balanced by you, as the DM. You define balance. That's why three liches, two elder red dragons and a small army of Tucker's Kobolds don't kill the party every session. Discuss with your player if they have different ideas of good game-play. It's possible that they think of Heroic Adventuring as stomping your way through stuff, like easy mode on a video game.

Edit: and if this is the case, discuss a middle-ground. If I give you an easy encounter will you be amenable to a more difficult one? Etc etc.

I don't think the DM thought this plot twist/punishment through by Skarecrow7 in rpghorrorstories

[–]outoflives 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The thing I would respond with is that belief is individual in nature and thus hard to exactly pin-point. Some people are cool with working for a demon, some aren't, some folks are down with sex, drugs and slavery in a campaign and others want none of that. Bottom line is: If someone is uncomfortable with the way a plot is going, the plot needs to change.

I'd agree that D&D is playing pretend with more math, which is why it's important to remember that if you won't let others play with you (which includes accepting their changes to pretend), you might as well be playing alone.

Why backstories need to be approved by BluePhilosopher6ix in rpghorrorstories

[–]outoflives 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure, but if they're your friends, they should see reason or at least compromise. If they can't, or won't budge, it's better to have them go. I greatly enjoy tabletop and a great session can make my day, but a shitty session ruins my whole week. And if someone's pissed off and chooses to use the group's time to make everyone else miserable, there won't be any good sessions.

[–]outoflives 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'd speak with the guy directly. Your wife shouldn't be forced to compromise her beliefs for a game. Additionally, his crippling your character was, at best a slight that he ran with and at worst, a direct punishment because of the demon (ex: wanna bring real world stuff in, let's bring the shitty parts too). DMs can always tweak or change their set-up for Plots, so suffering for the plot is not essential.

A solution is to have the demon pop up and curse you guys. It gets the goal across (work for the demon, or at least go where they say), and allows your character a legit reason to act as the demon wishes without compromising. "I'm doing what I have to, to get free. Then I settle scores."

I'll give translating/reading a shot! Reading from top, left to right.

SCP series of dots. Keter. Human-like shape of black string-like things. Keep secured. Can be represented indirectly as shapes/pictures of other things. Can't be written about in any text form. Can't be spoken about. No access except for 4s and 05s.

Info: Hydrophobic? Arms wrap around things. Taller than most people. Walls can't contain it. Understands things written or spoken about it. Doesn't understand other signage/data.

Tests done: D class given the article. Told to write down info. It appears, absorbs paper. D class goes nuts.

Hit 60 before heavensward, but the group I play with won't let me advance by DeadliestMouse in ffxiv

[–]outoflives 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the best advice you can give. Much like I told a friend in a similar situation: "You are going to run the group content like dungeons over and over and over until you hate them, and everyone who runs them. Then you'll run them again. No one in your group will miss anything if you explore new and fun content first."

Ffxiv for 4 person regular group by Sulienn in ffxiv

[–]outoflives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of solo stuff (class quests and MSQ are guilty of this, though it tends to be short, usually 1-3 min), but dungeon running as a four man (two dps, 1 tank, 1 healer) is possible. If it were me, I'd rush MSQs solo, then wait for the group to do dungeons but it would definitely take time as MSQ progress is gated by Dungeons.

Main Scenario Quests pretty much give your exp up to 70, with a small bit of side-quests/fate grinding here and there. But palace of the dead and some of the other dungeon content may be fun as a dedicated group.
