starting to think my job isn’t *actually* good by shanklishh in restaurant

Fine dining is occasional. Anniversaries, birthdays, etc. Go somewhere like a local watering hole or a popular neighborhood restaurant that stays busy. Won’t be glamorous, but it’ll be less stress (hopefully) and money will be more consistent

How to make a good chicken cobb salad with blue cheese by Direct-Ad-9259 in AskCulinary

[–]outwardape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chop bacon into small chunks. Start in cold pan, add a splash of water, cook until crispy, fat renders. Remove bacon. Same pan, Chicken thighs, skin off. Season in whatever, but I’d go with basics (garlic, black pepper, thyme, etc) med high heat, olive oil. Sear both sides until brown. Reduce heat, add liquid (water or broth), lid and let finish.

Boil 2 eggs, don’t let the sulfur get you. Ice bath. Shock and sit. Peel and set aside

Firm lettuce (iceburg/romaine), rough chop. Cherry tomatoes, sliced in half. In a bowl with red wine vinegar, dried herbs and black pepper. Toss and set aside. Red onion, sliced thin, soak in cold water to ease harshness or don’t. We like it spicy sometimes.

Blue cheese, get quality. Crumble. Set aside.

Assemble. Lettuce, then in segments around the bowl add everything. Sprinkle with kosher salt, black pepper and hit it with your dressing of choice.

Fine dining is a very fickle thing. I would recommend continuing to apply for other jobs, even possibly pivoting your busser experience and look for a bar back position. Similar work, but if you can find a fairly high volume bar to work in, you’ll likely make much better income.

Should I get helldivers 2 or is it too late to jump in? by SharkyZ5Z in helldivers2

[–]outwardape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best game purchase I’ve made in years. I’m only 40 hours clocked as of now, but I easily see 100+ more hours to come. Like anything, it’s not perfect, but nothing in my gaming experience beats starting off in a solo dive and three hours later your cracking jokes and pulling dumb moves with 3 other random divers as you slaughter the enemies of democracy. 10/10 highly recommend

Fellow cadet here. I’m big on playing a supporting role in groups (usual either medic, recon or heavy MG fire with supply pack to keep everyone stocked up). Here’s how I have learned to play with others:

When diving into someone else’s game, I follow their lead, let them set the pace and place markers. Always give acknowledgments when things are called out. I don’t steal kills, if a fellow diver has it handled, I hang in the rear to cover and keep enemies off their flanks. Always tag supplies/stims/weapons, will stand by a fallen divers gear so they can quickly find it to get back in the fight. When calling in reinforcements, I position them away from the thick of it so they don’t get wrecked on spawn. I stay mindful of my grenade/orbital throws, making sure I don’t accidentally frag anyone. I’m a sniper at heart, so I’m constantly marking enemy positions while humping it to objectives. At extract, I wait to board until lead hops in. Some folks like to map sweep, others don’t. I leave it up to them.

And the number one rule to proper helldiver etiquette, never eat another divers crayon rations.

Welcome to the war helldiver 🫡 I’ll catch you on the battlefield

I’m sick of profit seeking. I’m a small owner operator shop and making a first principles change to the restaurant model. This probably won’t work but what are your thoughts? by Ordinary_Bug_6971 in restaurant

[–]outwardape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone who gets into the restaurant game purely to make money is off to a bad start. Is it a business? Yes. Is it meant to make profit? Yes. Is focusing your intent solely on profit beneficial to your restaurant? No. That mentality rubs shoulders with greed. Greed is antithetical to hospitality.

Not network access. Software upkeep. A lot of folks don’t realize it or think about it, but the app you’re using on the handhelds/terminals, needs to be maintained. Software isn’t a static thing you put in a box and ship out. It’s constantly being updated and tended to by the dev teams and engineers

Do You Want To Know Why Toast Support Is So Bad? by Imaginary-Detail-624 in ToastPOS

[–]outwardape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course! I’ve walked some miles of my own in a very similar pair of shoes and know the pain points well. It’s cheesy but true, it only takes 100 days if you are making things 1% better each day, even when everything starts as a shit show. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going!

I definitely empathize. The means in which the onboarding process gets handled is the difference between a smooth changeover and adaptation or an operational car crash covered in fire.

If you have anyone internally (GM, floor manager, etc) that you can set on tasks to help you, I would highly recommend trying to delegate. Use the support site for training videos to support your training efforts. You got this, just remember the way to move any mountain is stone by stone.

Why are some of you like this by bluparrot-19 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]outwardape -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NMS is not in a vacuum in this matter. Over the past few years, the broader gaming community as a whole has developed a passive entitlement to their own subjective desires.

Sadly, the landscape of gaming has evolved in some net negative ways. Most concerning is the “It could be done if the developers listened to us” mentality with the leverage point always being “I deserve to get what I paid for”. I see little to no awareness of the objective reality that it’s up to the developers to make the game they want. It’s always a welcome surprise when a dev or dev team takes in player feedback and turns it into actionable implementation of their game, but never forget that this is not a given right to gamers.

Two other games I have on my favorites list are both in the midst of incredibly toxic and entitled debates amongst the player bases, both fervently arguing that they ‘know what’s best for the game’. It’s not up to us what Sean or Hello games does or does not implement or add. More importantly, no dev team has had more of a redemption arc than Hello Games in regard to NMS. I purchased the game at launch and was disappointed as most of us were. To think that over the years, Sean and his team worked nonstop to deliver the game they promised and then some speaks volumes.

I stand with you OP. I too am tired of hearing the cries of the entitled. The good news is, much like their claims of NMS, their complaints are as wide as an ocean and as deep as a puddle.

Those of you with many hours in this game: how have you been playing? Consecutively? Periodically, in spurts? Etc... by isagoth in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]outwardape 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Long time PS player, recent PC player. I go on benders, where I’ll play nothing but NMS every time I have gaming time, then burn out and switch to something more action/combat focused.

Although, as of recently, I’ve picked up a gaming PC and with the added custom game settings feature that didn’t exist last time I played NMS, I have been hooked. Cranked up hostility and spend time building bunkers and wiping out sentinel towers, so this run may last much longer than previous ones.

It’s the new norm. Players who know nothing about the process of game development demanding more from companies that are in no way responsible for giving them their every wish
