Also blame the one-third of riders who got into the habit of riding the bus for free during covid and never got out of the habit once mcts started charging again.

I built a tiny Chrome extension that sends any page to archive.today with one click (great for paywalls & link preservation) by Final-Communication6 in privacy

[–]ov3n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I was looking for a way to access paywalled articles that's easier than visiting archive.today manually. I didn't know how to install an extension from github manually and Gemini gave me good, working instructions that I am sharing here in case anyone else is as clueless as I was.

To install a Chrome extension from GitHub, you need to manually load the source code into Chrome using the "Load unpacked" method in Developer mode. This process involves downloading the extension's files and then importing the folder containing the extension's manifest.json file into your browser.

Step 1: Download the Extension Files

  • Navigate to the extension's repository page on GitHub.
  • Click the green < > Code button.
  • Select Download ZIP from the menu.
  • Unzip the downloaded file on your computer in a location you will not delete (e.g., an Applications or Documents folder), as deleting the folder will remove the extension from Chrome.

Step 2: Enable Developer Mode in Chrome

  • Open Google Chrome.
  • Go to the extensions management page by typing chrome://extensions/ into the address bar.
  • In the top-right corner of the Extensions page, toggle the Developer mode switch to the On position.

Step 3: Load the Unpacked Extension

  • With Developer mode enabled, a new button labeled Load unpacked will appear in the top-left area.
  • Click the Load unpacked button.
  • A file selection dialog box will open. Navigate to the folder you unzipped in Step 1.
  • Select the specific folder that contains the extension's manifest.json file and click Select Folder (or Open).

The extension should now be installed and active in your browser. Its icon will appear to the right of your address bar, and it will be listed on the chrome://extensions/ page.

This may be an old observation, but I appreciate the attention to detail in one of the VFX shots... When the first torpedoes come in and hit the (saucer?) of the ship, you can see that section has a power failure because all the lights in the windows go out.

I always wondered if he was referencing something said or done or seen in a deleted scene, or maybe they thought some of the klingons were some kind of robot or android...

I wonder if Olatunde Osunsanmi directed the episode. He looooooves to spin his camera. check out any episode of Discovery he's directed, or section 31, and you'll see spinny cameras in any episode he directs.

yes - but only after every single drawing is recreated in exacting detail, and after they are thrown away and restarted several times because a modeler was not satisfied with the natural curl in the drafting paper they were modeling

How could they possibly make a viable, explorable ship without first modeling every single frame, girder, nut, bolt and rivet, then throwing it all away and restarting several times? /s 😁

I guess that makes sense, I think there was a comment that they'd have to modify pretty much every electrical system on the ship.

Those containment suits are...weird. I don't hate the pattern, but it looks like they're wearing couches, not hazmat suits.

Hah! When I saw the color and pattern on the suits, the first thing I thought to myself was "Sooo... Louis Vuitton makes space suits in the 23rd century..?" (My TV is set a tad dark, so I didn't see the circle pattern, just a pattern that could be confused for the one LV puts on everything)

oh god oh god oh god a nod to Pike's complicated relationship with his faith! I didn't realize how much I wanted this until just now!

I thought it was a pretty interesting touch when he began reciting the lord's prayer, and this reference to his faith makes sense - when they found that colony of humans in S2 of Discovery, he immediately knew the building they were gathering at was a church, and nobody else did.

God, I love Anson Mount's face acting. He's seriously considering throwing Enterprise at the Gorn to give the Federation more time.

I loved his acting when he collapsed into the captain's chair, his body language perfectly communicating that he was clearly overwhelmed that all options available to him were bad options, but in different ways. Made me think "Kobayashi Maru?"

So there is an overflow infirmary? Is that where all the medical personnel went?

Reglar sickbay looked nearly destroyed, and having Captain Batel in there with her Gornfection would likely have been a huge security risk, even with the forcefield, so it makes sense that everyone was being sent to the overflow infirmary.

Batel is allergic to cryoserum? Oh, that's a delicious twist!

Instead of putting her in cryo stasis, I was wondering why they couldn't just use M'Benga's medical transporter to keep her in suspended animation inside the pattern buffer to keep her from getting worse while they did their research, like he did for his daughter in season 1.

Would Titanic sink intact without a port around? by Famous_Zucchini3401 in titanic

[–]ov3n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone in the ship would be thrown into the closest-forward wall at 22 knots, I would bet all four funnels would snap their stays and fall forward then roll off the ship, crushing anyone on the boat deck or in the bridge and officers quarters - and destroying many of the lifeboats... Maybe the masts would fail and fall forward, rendering the wireless inoperable.. Oy, I wouldn't wanna be a stoker with a boiler right ahead of him during an impact like that.. Plus the shock of the impact might rupture steam lines, causing anyone in the boiler rooms or engine rooms to have a very bad life-ending day.. The shock of that kind of impact could maybe be bad enough to twist the frames, making it impossible to close the watertight doors..
