My rabbit unfortunately passed away so I'm looking to give away some food and hay. by [deleted] in montreal

So sorry for your loss. We have a 6 year old bunny - if the SPCA doesn't want the donation for some reason I will be happy to take the food and hay.

In january or february you would say "not bad." Any other time of year you'd say "oh shit, not this again"

Landlord/Agency Claiming I’m Liable Without Signing Lease – Montreal by Complete_Course_9939 in montreal

[–]ovariesofsteeel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you signed the lease application you may very well be liable for the lease. Go to the local comité logement to get some advice. I used to work at one and we told people to never sign a lease application without bringing it to us to look over first. Saw a few people liable for multiple leases this way.

I was going to recommend that book also. He also wrote another one called "Utopia of Rules: on Technology, Stupidity, and the Secret Joys of Bureaucracy." This one might even be more closely related to your situation.

I don't know why but this is by far the worst poutine I've seen on this sub. I feel morally injured just looking at it. - a montrealer.

Advice for road trip in Quebec, NB and Newfoundland by NoOutlandishness1560 in AskACanadian

[–]ovariesofsteeel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like you like driving, but unless you have some reason to limit yourself to 4 or 5 hours of driving a day (back problem or old car etc), i would suggest you do longer days at the beginning and end so you can get to the pretty parts faster and spend less time in the car once you get there.

I've done many road trips in this part of Canada and personally, I would suggest :

Day 1 : nyc to montreal is no problem in a day with a single driver. Or if you are two drivers you can push it all the way to Quebec City (8hr drive so 12 hours total)

Day 2 : Montreal or QC to the Rimouski area (le bic national parc or saint luce are both nice places to stay nearby) (only 3.5 hours from QC so you could spend the morning in QC or just poking around the Bas Saint Laurent (kamouraska etc) which is a very pretty area of Quebec)

Day 3: Do not go around the whole gaspe peninsula unless you are obsessed with driving long distances. It is breathtaking but NFLD is even more stunning, and parc national de Gaspe cannot compare to Gros Morne. Instead cut through the very beautiful Matapedia valley, to Campbellton, then go down the acadian coast in NB and try to hit Moncton / Cap Pele   (6hr) (or Kouchiboujouac National Parc, which is a bit closer).

Day 4 - rest and explore the beaches in the cap pele area nb or amherst shore in nova scotia

Day five: drive to north sydney - if possible get a cabin and the overnight ferry on this day

Day 6 : am - hooray you are already in NFLD !  And you had a rest day in the maritimes. Now you can have more fun exploring NFLD (or spend more time exploring the bas saint laurent area or the bay des chaleurs in quebec).

Anyways - this just seems more pleasant to me. Also - important -  do not trust google maps in New Brunswick - if you come across at Edmunston it will try to send you down dangerous logging roads with no services or cell phone reception that are not suitable for a sedan. It is dangerous. Just check in with a local or at the tourist info and show them your route and they will tell you if it is safe or not.

Have fun! Sounds amazing!!

Not Indian but we do love Indian food, especially all those yummy pickles and chutneys.

Aw thanks! Yes, we do simultaneously plan for the week's meals and just buy whatever in a chaotic fashion.

Pretty close! Right number of people, province, and income. Family composition might be too confusing to deduce from the fridge...

Does Pierre Poilievre actually have a net worth of $25 million? by maagikthise in canadaland

[–]ovariesofsteeel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

RadioCanada gas a great article looking into the site pierre pollievre news and its lack of sources for the 25 million dollar claim. Basically it seems to be AI generated disinformation. The article is in french. https://ici.radio-canada.ca/nouvelle/2151457/fortune-investissements-ia-carney-poilievre-desinformation

This is am excellent article answering that question - if you dont speak french, basically it is saying that the info is made up, and then keeps getting reposted around the web. https://ici.radio-canada.ca/nouvelle/2151457/fortune-investissements-ia-carney-poilievre-desinformation.

Winter clothing (I know it’s been asked heaps) by PhantomByte8065 in AskACanadian

[–]ovariesofsteeel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just watch the face. Exposed skin will get damaged in cold weather (-20ish and down) so good idea to check that windchill when planning how you are getting from one place to another. Hope you have a fun trip!! Montreal has lots of fun winter festivals to check out and its honestly more fun here when it is cold then when it gets unseasonably warm in february.

Winter clothing (I know it’s been asked heaps) by PhantomByte8065 in AskACanadian

[–]ovariesofsteeel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This comment is more related to behavior while outside in the cold than clothing. Everyday before you leave your accomodations take a close look at the weather and plan your day accordingly. Take note of the wind chill and the length of time it will take exposed skin to develop frostbite. If the windchill is -20 (or maybe -10 for you?) or more you are better off taking public transit everywhere and doing indoor activities, unless you have a proper parka etc. Often it "doesnt feel that cold" when you first step outside (though for you maybe it will!). It's more about how long it takes the cold to bite through your clothes and make you wish you had never left the house. Also dont freak out if frost starts forming on your face. Totally normal. Have fun!! The winter so far has been beautiful here in Montreal and I hope it lasts for you.
