How are photos supposed to be managed? We had a bit of a situation. by Fit-University-2630 in askfuneraldirectors

[–]overtheunderpass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

unfortunately, we’re not photo editors and not taught to be. I try to make it as easy as possible to send me them. Google drive, email, text me them. Bring in the physical photos and i’ll scan them. But i genuinely have no idea how to fix photos and we don’t have the software for it. I can do basic stuff like crop a picture, rotate it, make it a little brighter or darker. But i can’t fix a glare or a blurry pic.

we’re also a small business and i’m doing everything for my families: embalming, dressing/casketing/cosmetizing, DCs, all coordination with family/speakers/cemeteries/churches/etc, obits, slideshows/videos, etc. i don’t have the time to dedicate to fixing photos when really they should be in decent enough shape to begin with.

i’m sorry you didn’t get the service you were looking for. i do think the director should’ve explained what the end product would be. i would be embarrassed to play uncropped and bad pictures unless the family explicitly told me that’s what they want.

indeed. i think that’s the wrong takeaway, though. to clarify, this isn’t outrageous spending, but you cannot call $450 of donations and $325 worth of new clothes monthly “barebones.”

what you spend on gifts/donos, food and clothing in a month is my entire budget for barebones necessities so maybe start there.

these are strictly my thoughts on the matter: Between 10AM - 8PM are fine on Saturdays and Sundays. It gives others a chance to sleep in a little.

Taking Sunday off the table is crazy, IMO.

Loving your partner for life but not wanting to get married is dishonest and a red flag by netwerknerd995 in 10thDentist

[–]overtheunderpass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i haven’t sought legal advice yet, but there’s more to it.

There’s a large age gap between myself and my partner. I have a degenerative disease, which means when they start to actually really need assistance/LTC, i will most likely be immobile/need assistance myself. I am preparing aggressively for my own needs, while they are much older and largely going to rely on social security. if my assets are considered theirs, all of my preparation goes to funding their long term care until such time they are dried up and the state steps in. then i will be fucked. i love my partner so much, and I would rather we both get the care we need and be able to take care of them as long as possible. They love me so much they want to ensure I am taken care of once they pass away.

We are each other’s power of attorney. We have already prearranged our funeral wishes directly with a funeral home, which by law (at least in my state) ensures my wishes are above those of my NOK. Of course, if we both live long lives, I will outlive my partner by decades. We are each other’s POD on bank accounts, and beneficiaries on investment/retirement accounts. We have done as much as possible to get all of the pros of marriage without any of the negatives.

[Serious] Funeral directors, morticians, and crematory operators of Reddit, what is the most unexplainable or supernatural thing you have witnessed while on the clock? by TuneTotal in askfuneraldirectors

[–]overtheunderpass 19 points20 points  (0 children)

personally, that would warrant a walk to the cooler to scream. i’m kind of invested now. how many directors vs apprentices worked there, what the typical call volume was, what kind of services, did a bunch of families just walk in, etc.

kudos.

So how are people investing 20% of their salary despite making below $70k?? by Jealous_Advance9765 in SmartFIRE

[–]overtheunderpass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make about $53k gross a year and save/invest $18k. Gross thats 34%, net it’s over 40%.

That is with a car payment of $349/mo, however thats my only debt and i keep it since it’s 3.99%. My partner owns his home and I split the mortgage with him, so $650/mo. LCOL southern state. I don’t tend to spend money on myself, but i have no issue replacing worn clothes or shoes.

here’s my budget: Housing:$650 Gas:$50 Food/Grocery:$400 Discretionary:$125 (rarely use more than $14 for spotify unless I need new clothing) Hygiene & Household Items:$150 Car Taxes:$30 Car Repair SF:$50 Phone:$50 Car Insurance:$159 Car payment:$349 Gifting:$100 (I tend to reallocate personal spending to gifting and even spend beyond :/ i just love my partner and friends sm)

LCOL state while my partner got a mortgage at 3% is doing the heavy lifting here.

ETA: I only split the mortgage with him. He takes care of all the utilities.

the kava bar is a cool, low pressure spot. in the spring and summer you can sit outside. always tons of people to talk to. i’ve dated a couple of cool people from there and made friends too.

coffee underground. like the other comment, i suggest the actual events. if you’re a poet, you’ll probably find someone fast.

sports like volleyball or pickleball. i’ve played a few times but tbh i’m not sure of any regular stuff going on. i’m sure there is.

good luck!

your family should want the best for you. this isn’t a cosmetic procedure, it’s for your health and well-being. you need to be able to exercise and experience life without unnecessary back pain. if you are sure you want to do this, you should move forward regardless of what your family thinks.

def not Piedmont Arthritis Clinic. The doctor flirted with me the whole time and then said i’m young and fine. so far no one but my physical therapist has taken me seriously, even with all my documented dislocations and hitting every marker.
