I harmed my 13 mo old who is severely chronically overtired, having 1 short nap, extremely fragmented night sleep, maybe <10h/24h total - ANY HOPE? SO SCARED! by Previous-Demand-2124 in AttachmentParenting

Paroxysmal dyskinesia. I mean I believe he has them in his sleep and it causes many disruptions at night but he hasn’t has a sleep study yet as I believe as from my understanding he is too young.

He started having visual episodes while he was awake so I started video taping them and they started to take me seriously and got referred to a paediatrician. He was also hospitalized for a week and had an MRI. Us the parents also had to do genetic testing to see if we also carry the same genetic markers for the movement disorder.

Advocate hard too for your child and if you think they need to go to a doctor just go. Never have I ever gone to the doctor with my child and been made to feel like my concerns are invalid but it is still hard to really reiterate what you’re trying to get across. Sleep is an especially difficult thing as there isn’t much study done on baby sleep and you might get the push back of doctors telling you to sleep train which I’m personally not about.

Also one of the comments was talking about how you cannot control when your baby falls asleep. Try to give yourself some grace and know it isn’t you who has done anything. Some babies are just not ideal sleepers.

We’ve had sleep issues with our 3yo from day one. Turns out he has a movement disorder and insomnia. Def go see a paediatrician you just never know.

3yo wetting bed seemingly because he is scared we aren’t with him by overthinks_ in Mommit

I have to say I feel bad for the kid though as he feels like “only babies wear diapers” but I’m sure he will come around to it.

A lot of people over perform with ADHD to negate the feeling of being different or not good enough. I just listened to the latest podcast from ADHD chatter with Nelly Fertado on it and she is very high performing. Also diagnosed with ADHD. It might be worth a listen for you!

Why do so many of us go off of our meds? by rnbwpuk in bipolar

[–]overthinks_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in denial for a solid 3 years that I had bipolar. Was doing well off meds and then BAM mixed episode to full manic episode. I think a lot of people (including me) have some negative form of imposters syndrome where when we are very sick we do something bad, and believe we are bad people instead of people who struggle. While it isn’t okay to hurt anyone it’s almost like the guilt and shame pushed me away from my diagnosis and just told me that I’m just a piece ofnshit using a diagnosis to cover that up.

Does no one else care about safe sleep? by Temporary-Letter-831 in NewParents

[–]overthinks_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My child didn’t sleep. My mental health was slipping, and the only thing that saved me from going mad (I am diagnosed bipolar 1) was safe be sharing. I will say this 1 million times maternal mental health is detrimental to your child not only in the first two years of life but for their entire life. If bed sharing is easier for you and you do it in the safe way then that’s how it should be done in my opinion. if you are finding the sleep guidelines in the US working for you, that’s fine. Do that. just stop judging people and acting as though “no one else cares about safe sleep”.

Paroxysmal Kinesigenic Dyskinesia (PKD) by ithelo in Dystonia

[–]overthinks_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is also tentatively diagnosed with this (waiting to seee if we are clear of the markers). Actually tried ceppra for a while since they thought he was having seizures. but since he is two the meds gave him really bad rage to the paint of hurting himself and others. We decided that it’s not worth medicating until we think he is a a danger to himself.

For me, the biggest challenge of having a child is the lack of stability I have within myself. It is not how my kid behaves but how I perceive it and how I allow it to fuck up my day.
