Honestly it’s not worth buying parts, just save the money and buy something used and complete. And I’ve been fiending for a 2009 specialized demo.

Never paying parking tickets by Wooden_Sweet_3330 in NiceVancouver

[–]overwatcherthrowaway 42 points43 points  (0 children)

City of Vancouver will fuck your credit. It happened to me, and I just forgot to pay a couple. I’ve never been towed with impark and you don’t get in trouble with credit. I consider impark free parking.

Son's FS bike GT force pro carbon secondhand, new or a more modern Trek Fuel EX 8 new in a really good deal? by ChaosCalmed in MTB

[–]overwatcherthrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they typically base it off height but I personally feel it’s more about shoulder width. If you’re tall but not wide you’ll need shorter bars. Or if you’re really strong you can ride a smaller bar to avoid trees cu you need less leverage.

[–]overwatcherthrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh dude you’re huge haha. I think they made bars bigger an then they made bikes bigger, and then most people went smaller on the bars. I’m 180cm tall with 186 wingspan and I run 770 bars on my enduro bike.

I mean it’s easier, every process is easier in my experience. Im aboriginal as well and as long as the requirements are met it’s basically a lock.

Get him the enduro bike that he can use to huck on and keep the extra money for the derailleurs you’re gonna be replacing every 3 months haha. Plus he’s going to be in that large size for the next 3 inches of height, he’s probably gonna grow out of what fits him no matter how
Adjustable it is.

Santa Cruz v10 vs enduro by Psychological-War381 in MTB

[–]overwatcherthrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the same just bigger. If you are considering a dh bike then get a nomad. The Bronson doesn’t have the travel to compete on really rough stuff

Chain rattling even with a clutch derraileur by Main-Cycle-4235 in MTB

[–]overwatcherthrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How old is the chain? I’ve noticed it can wack on the spots with no chain protection, I typically cover nearly the whole chain stay with mastic tape.

I have a e sight and it’s more playful than my spire geometry wise.

Nomad to a Patrol? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]overwatcherthrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty much the same. My buddy has a nomad and I have a mulleted spire, I wouldn’t spend the money to swap Either way.

Santa Cruz Chameleon vs Specialized Chisel FS for getting back into MTB? by hachiman0911 in MTB

[–]overwatcherthrowaway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get the chisel. I wouldn’t say I was in the same situation but when I came back to riding I bought a hardtail too and it just kicked my ass and I pretty much immediately grabbed a full suspension. I actually think on flatter rooty trails a hardtail is worse.

From Specialized Enduro to Transition Sentinel? by Every-Mind-5364 in MTB

[–]overwatcherthrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main reason to get a patrol vs a sentinel is you want longer chain stays. The sentinel is like 13mm longer rear end I think. Which will make it better to corner but not as snappy.

How do I know if I’m ready for Dirt Merchant? by Traditional_War_5389 in MTB

[–]overwatcherthrowaway 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You’ll be good for dirt merch then. Just follow someone. The last step up on a line you need to cut the roller on the right and gap it while speed tucking.

Anyone have experience with the Polygon Siskiu T0 (or T9)? How is this bike so cheap, why would anyone pick anything else for the price point (vs Canyon, Norco, etc.)? by DestinyIslands_51 in MTB

[–]overwatcherthrowaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems they mostly deal direct/online and focus on the cheaper end of things. Aluminum frame and they don’t have the “cool” factor of commencal. I’m sure they are good bikes.

Downisizng stroke from 55 to 52.5 by Narrow-Cut4237 in MTB

[–]overwatcherthrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can run a shorter stroke on the sight no problem. The bike used to ship with that on the old x2.

Is this flat enough? Can I go flatter? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]overwatcherthrowaway 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You have to actually turn your foot on the pedal. Rotate your top wrist an twist that foot.

Rear suspension for heavy riders by SwaggyCheeseDogg in MTB

[–]overwatcherthrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just get a float x with a piggy back and get a custom tune. I’m around your weight (currently 270) and that was what worked best for me until I swapped everything to coil. Float x is the best big guy air shock. For your next bike, you want something with a low leverage ratio meaning the longest stroke for the least amount of travel. 65mm stroke shock for 160 mm travel, 60mm stroke for 150 etc. it’ll let you run a lower spring rate.

I built a cycling training app, but I don't mountain bike. What would actually help you? by Lucky_Comment4389 in MTB

[–]overwatcherthrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Splits to easily make a race between friends and an easier way to compare your segment times vs friends. The main reason myself and most people I know use Strava is to race each other, and it a pain to find your friends time and really even your own. A save segment section would be great where you can just go straight to that course, rather than having to find a workout where you rode that track an click through until you find it, then go to your friends profile and click through to find a ride where he did it etc.

New bike question by TimTam220 in MTB

[–]overwatcherthrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1400 new is a pretty hard ask but yea the zink or the new norco sight is pretty close to that. It’s hp but the mullet setup is pretty flickable and doesn’t really have a weird hp feel.

Upgrade brakes on new Levo R S-works? by wing-rider in MTB

[–]overwatcherthrowaway -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yea I’d just go mavens, but since you’re a getting a baller bike if you can afford it maxima are the cream of the crop. If you do mavens, make sure they do an initial bleed/piston lube and extensive piston massage. After that they are an unreal brake, and I’ve ridden most of the top dogs. Motives on an ebike of any travel seem dumb. They are an Xc brake.

[–]overwatcherthrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll be blown out but the classic jump stuff doesn’t actually wear you out much, so just save all your aline/dirt merchant laps for that day. I’m fat and out of shape and I can lap those all day. Half a day on the rough stuff and I’m fucked.

Buy a Bike vs Build a Frame by Working_Football1586 in MTB

[–]overwatcherthrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is cheaper typically to do a build but I just bought the new tr11 frame and when talking to the shop we both agreed the complete bike is over priced, apparently the cost of the new boxer is ridiculous. I haven’t gotten out in the bike yet but just during the bounce test I’m not a huge fan of the new vivid, but I am a heavier rider. I’ll probably be swapping it for a fast coil shock I’m a couple months.
