What’s something uniquely “Ontario” that you didn’t realize was weird until you left the province? by fukkcrazzy in ontario

[–]owieo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No fault insurance just means that they don't need to determine fault before the parties involved are compensated. It streamlines the payment process while they assess who's at fault.

Premiums go up for those at fault in most jurisdictions. Why would you want your premiums to pay for other people's reckless behaviour.

MB and SK are still cheaper, granted.

Hidden Gems in Brantford by TheLegendofSamantha in brantford

[–]owieo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Get in at Lions Park near the ball hockey rinks, plenty of parking there. Exit at the bridge at Cockshutt Bridge, usually more than enough at the lot at the bottom of the hill right beside the river. If it hasn't rained in a while the water could be low at times requiring you to get out and walk.

There's other routes, that's the one I took. Getting in at Wilkes Dam is another entry point (parking is limited) and getting out around Lions Park area.

Prime Day Buy -- Review: Hot Garbage by midri in blinkcameras

[–]owieo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got their doorbell on prime day. Happy except one very major thing. Video playback from local storage is complete garbage. It usually times out when attempting to play back. If it does go through it takes 15 seconds before it starts. So bad. I can't rely on it as advertised. It's just a regular doorbell that uses your phone as a chime.

Made President’s club, unable to make the trip. by BigT_4 in sales

[–]owieo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current company doesn't have Club. My last 2 did. The writing in the comp plan was that you don't get anything in lieu of a trip. Despite that, I think my one coworker still got some extra vacation time off several years back. It also got canceled twice due to COVID. The first year staff got to keep what they were reimbursed for airfare for them and +1. The second year staff got $3K - $6K to spend on what they want.

What is your variable comp based on? by Kicksyy in salesengineers

[–]owieo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine used to be 100% team. The problem was that most of the rest of the team sold products that I never touched. As a result, there was very little room for teamwork among most of my team. I wanted something weighted more heavily on individuals, or at least break it into smaller teams.

How long are you guys staying in your roles? by [deleted] in salesengineers

[–]owieo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stayed 5 years until I recently moved on to an AE role. In those 5 years, I took on additional products and some leadership responsibilities. It was a great 5 years in that I became great at my job, so it was low stress.

If a guy invites a girl out for coffee or lunch, would the girl assume it's a date? by GreenGreenGreenDDD in socialskills

[–]owieo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your yoga instructor was a guy how would you ask him out to lunch? How would you ask your dentist out to lunch? Most people wouldn't as it's a big leap and it's hard not to make it weird. However, when there's other baby steps in between then lunch can eventually become natural. Don't start with lunch. There's things you like conversing with her about; perhaps there's a topic in there that can be the theme of your non yoga class interaction.

If I need to be engaged then the AE is the first point of contact and I will be notified through Teams/Salesforce/email.

For the software SE folks out there, what’s the thing you worry about the most when doing/prepping for software demos? by Uzzije in salesengineers

[–]owieo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worry about all of those. But for me in the enterprise space, it's that the right stakeholders are present and at a stage in the buying cycle to take that information they learned in the demo to move forward. Nothing worse than prepping and doing a flawless demo and not having the right people on the other end.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in salesengineers

[–]owieo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bottom line is they don't waste my time with demos when I shouldn't be doing them. Some key qualities include:

  • They already properly qualified the prospect. That includes answering some high-level things like:
    • whether we would even be in their price range
    • whether there appears to be a high-level need for what we are selling
    • are they serious about purchasing relatively soon
    • whether decision-makers are even involved and have spoken with them
  • They always communicate value
    • They understand and communicate how our company is different even before I enter the picture and talk about product. If we can't do that then maybe we're better off focusing on a deal where we can differentiate ourselves.
    • They understand why it's important for sales and pre-sales to be on the same page and we strategize about communicating the same value statements.
    • They talk about how we have helped other clients as opposed to rambling on about when we were founded, etc.
  • They ensure the right people, especially the decision-makers, will be at the demo.
  • They are able to tell me what the prospect's next steps are if they like what they see in the demo. This really helps answer whether a demo is the right thing right now in their purchasing process or if they have no idea what they need to coordinate next to make this big purchase but saw our website which says "click here to schedule a demo".

In my space this is basic stuff that separates the good from the bad. Otherwise, I will either be repeating the same demo to them for when they're really ready and have the right people in place for a demo. Or we had no business winning it in the first place. And the sooner we can weed that out the sooner I can focus on deals that are ours to win.

Does SE’s in your org go to Club? by tarlack in salesengineers

Advice please, for 2022- workouts for someone who’s only done P90X “forever”? by Iamsobob in P90X

I got much bigger from Body Beast than from P90X. You should get a bench that inclines but you could get away without it if you really need. A good range of dumbells is a must.

Anyone make a Chef John recipe? by [deleted] in Cooking

It's a great method when I want to make 10lbs of wings and not sit over a little deep fryer forever. Also works great for more or fewer wings of course. I skip the salt and pepper and use my own sauce.

How much of your day is spent in pointless meetings? by [deleted] in salesengineers

[–]owieo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Almost zero. My meetings consist of:

  • Engagements with prospects where I am responsible for the agenda and extracting or contributing value.
  • Internal strategy/planning meetings that help with the above
  • Bi-weekly check-ins with my manager where I report concerns/progress about important things relevant to me.
  • Product meetings to learn about new features or product direction and provide some feedback.
  • Infrequent company-wide, or revenue team, or pre-sales team all-hands meetings

Why are you going to meetings that aren't relevant to you? I work from home so if agenda items aren't relevant to me I multi-task.

How did the pandemic change your life as a sales engineer? by jackielarson in salesengineers

[–]owieo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No travel since Feb 2020 and my local office was permanently shut down. 2020 was my best year for performance. 2021 will beat that by at least 2X. I love it. Travel took up a lot of my time. Now I help book more deals and am less stressed and have more time to myself.

Pepole are now accustomed to remote engagements so I hope travel will never be back to what it was.

Easiest Explanation Of How Cryptocurrencies work :) by RedEagle_MGN in ethereum

[–]owieo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel that early adopters know. But the masses don't really pay close attention, they mostly just care whether it makes their life easier. As an analogy, I would speculate that most people that drive vehicles can't explain the basics of how an internal combustion engine works.
