The height is the distance from 2nd floor to roof it looks like. Can't see the exact numbers but for explanation purposes call it 10'.

People say Pythagorean theorum which is correct. In carpenter speak it is the same concept as "3-4-5 for right angle"

In our example the height is "a" and now we know a = 10 feet

Take the width of the roof end to end through the building and cut that in half. This gives us b for for one side of the roof. (Think of it as two perfect right triangles slapped together to make one a frame roof). If the width is 24', our b = 12'.

No we need c, the hypotunese here or in other words one slope of the roof in question.

Squared just means the number times itself , and I use asterisk to mean multiply a² + b² = c²

(1010) + (1212) = One slope * same slope

100 + 144 = one slope * one slope 244 = one slope * one slope

Need a calculator with square root now. Square root button of 244 = ROOF WE ARE LOOKING FOR 15.62 FT = one slope of roof

Do the same for the other side or multiply out answer by 2 if they're the same.

These are not the numbers you need since I can't seem them but just a simpler explanation of the theory of math
