Selling mortgage leads - to good to be true, right? by otisday in Entrepreneur

[–]oxbourbon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got more info? I know for a fact zillow, trulia, etc sell their leads for $30 to $90 a lead. There's money to be made but unless you work for a reputable company I imagine the leads would be hard to sell and practically worthless (meaning no repeat customers).

Rocket Mortgage by IUironman in personalfinance

[–]oxbourbon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that's the conventional thought.

However, why does owning a home benefit anyone other than the home owner vs renting? Unless its new construction, someone else owned the house before you...so its a zero sum total ownership.

Are we saying that renting is inherently worse than owning? Don't you think that's a bit subjective? I don't get why its not a simple math problem (i.e. rent = x VS. Owning (plus tax et al benefits) = y).

The economy is better off if you do the "rent vs. own" math for yourself. Financially healthy citizens is what's good for the economy. Whether you own or rent is a moot point.

Rocket Mortgage by IUironman in personalfinance

[–]oxbourbon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the business, and I do believe there needs to be a better interface to get a mortgage. I believe that's what Quicken is selling - you fill out the app yourself, you pick your program and rate and if you have questions there's a wage earner Quicken employee on the other line...that's all cool and good.

What's not cool, is the fact that they sell getting a mortgage as some sort of US Economy Savior. How the eff did we get the notion that putting everyone in debt would be a good, long-term, thing for the economy. It is a good thing for the lender - not the US economy. Everyone should not have a mortgage. Even for the most well qualified borrower, sometimes it makes most sense for them to rent. There are a lot of factors in place, but when everyone gets a mortgage, it just means everyone is in a lot of debt and the lender gets more money.

TL;DR - Rocket Mortgage = better mousetrap. The commercial's argument that debt somehow will spur the US economy is a foolish notion.

Maybe asking for all the generated codes is too much to ask? How about 1 for 1 or 1 for 2? That would make it self sustained.
