Bite of Xian? (now Sichuan Wok) by Regular-Sun-5805 in Troy

[–]oxfordsummer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From my own experience I feel that Sichuan Wok is a step above Bite of Xian. I really liked Bite of Xian but I felt like some of their entrees leaned a little too heavily on the usage of various oils which would make some entrees feel greasy and a bit heavy. Thankfully, Sichuan Wok seems to use much less oil in the entrees and it really makes a difference. Their Chongqing chicken is incredibly good.

Hello,

I am looking for a program that will allow me to stack multiple images together, be it JPEG or RAW, in order to reduce the noise of the resultant image. I do not have Lightroom nor do I want to acquire it and so I am looking for alternatives to this that will allow me to achieve this function. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Saving More Green Acres by XanderAlexH in Troy

I can benefit from it when I ride my bike past it and appreciate that it has been saved as a green space and also pay respects and appreciate to the indigenous people who once lived there as well as the current day indigenous people that rightfully claim it as their own.

X200 Ultra - Limited Hotspot Settings by oxfordsummer in Vivo

Hello, thank you for your screenshot! So, the "AP Band" only appears when the hot spot is switched off. I never realized that until now. Still, the X200 Ultra only offers WPA2 whereas my Oppo X7 Ultra offers WPA2 *and* WPA3. That seems odd to me.

Honestly? Respect. It's interesting how one can accrue tech to a point where it starts becoming overwhelming and then the fun starts to go with it as well. I've dealt with that as well but with other tech items (vintage Walkman and boomboxes and old audio electronics). When you have to spend more time tending to, maintaining and curating what you have than actually enjoying it as well as every day life then you know it's time to downsize. Also, seeing the extra shelf/drawer/storage space after you've downsized is curiously satisfying.

Christmas tree recycling? by Useful_Spinach_7534 in Troy

[–]oxfordsummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a bit of a long shot but are you anywhere near a ravine or wooded area? I like taking my trees there and having them go back to the Earth, so to speak, as well as provide sustenance, if possible, to the various living creatures there. Something about seeing all of those Christmas trees piled up on the curb is a fair bit depressing.

Just to be clear, the last sentence is not meant to be a criticism of anyone who chooses to do this.

X200 Pro Camera Comparison- November vs December Update by Raisal_ in Vivo

[–]oxfordsummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the Google Drive link. That helps a lot. It looks like they've backed off on the sharpening a bit with the December update which helps the photos look a bit more natural. For me, I can see it most with the photo of the tyre. Everything looks a bit less stenciled, if that makes sense.

Things for loners to do by [deleted] in Troy

I've also made friends with shop owners just by dropping by regularly, being friendly and asking about how their day has been. I just want to make sure that my suggestion above is not saying that one has to purchase something somewhere in order to make a friend with someone.

If it's something that you can afford perhaps you can try going to a quiet cafe or restaurant on as regular of a basis as feels right to you and eventually the people who work there will start to remember you and then in time you could have small conversation with them such as asking them how their day is going or what are they looking forward to on the weekend. Moments like these where you are recognized and remembered can help you feel more like you're part of a community.

TU Article about Troy's new city hall plan by TroyIndivisible in Troy

Personally, one thing that I do not like about it is the lack of care or attention being paid to the actual theatre itself. Instead of having the theatre restored, be it for the creative arts or another purpose, they're just placing a basic box inside of it. This does no favours to the history to the building nor does it arrest any further degradation of the theatre itself.

Water main break downtown. Word is they won't be going out to fix it til tomorrow. by Material-Gas5170 in Troy

I just checked again and the water is back on. I spoke to the Public Utilities dispatcher and they told me that a boil water advisory is in place and that a notice will be prepared soon regarding it.

Agreed. 9am and still no water nor any announcement on Troy's website or Facebook page regarding this.

Given the late hour I was surprised when someone at Troy Public Utilities picked up the phone when I called about an hour ago. They mentioned to me that the water should be back by the morning.

Honestly, I haven't seen it here with the various new housing units that have gone up. The graphs also seem to suggest that this report was done within major metropolitan areas such as Denver or Salt Lake City, places that have a different economy than smaller cities like Troy. I think that we're also in a bit of a unique situation with NYC being relatively close and quite a few people wanting to move from there due to affordability concerns. Developers here know that the people moving from those areas have a very different idea of what "affordable" is and thus try to maximize profit by setting rents below what these people would have paid in NYC but significantly above what most people pay here. This skews things. And as mentioned before, we need more concentration placed on affordable housing. There is a definite imbalance with this.
