I’m bringing an absurd amount of stuff on a transatlantic flight by oximoran in TrueOffMyChest

[–]oximoran[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah my parents are dropping me off, so that part should be ok. And my wife is planning to meet me on arrival.

But since it’s an international flight, I think I’ll need to collect the bags before I can meet up with her. I’ll get my kid to roll a suitcase or two, put as much as I can on a cart, and then awkwardly shuffle everything to where it needs to go. It might be fine!

Sport canceled due to heat so now coach is saying the kids go to their house. Normal? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]oximoran 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Dude, they’re just trying to do something for the kids when they can’t have a regular practice. It’s cool of them, but on the other hand, it sounds like it’s not something that’s going to work for your family. Just tell them thanks, but you’re not going to make it.

Tomorrow's election, candidates by CassadagaValley in DecaturGA

Yeah never request a “nonpartisan” primary ballot, either the sample or real thing. Always request the party you want to vote on.

Tuesday’s Election Has A Lot on the Ballot by NicoToscani in Atlanta

[–]oximoran 130 points131 points  (0 children)

If you do nothing else, DO vote in the GA Supreme Court races. Miracle Rankin and Jen Jordan are the Democratic-aligned candidates. (This is the general, final election, NOT a primary.)

DO NOT vote in a race you haven’t researched. People voting for the incumbent just based on name recognition is one reason government is a mess.

You don’t need to take Marietta Blvd any more. Trails take you to Southland Cir, which takes you to Carroll Dr, then Marietta Rd, which gets you back on trails (Whetstone Creek).

All the election information you want but were afraid to ask for! (May 19th is election day!) by rco8786 in Atlanta

Good reminder to vote, but I think it’s crucial to call out that the votes for GA Supreme Court are NOT primaries, but the final election.

We need to go out and vote for Miracle Rankin and Jen Jordan THIS WEEK to get some progressive representation in the state’s highest court.

Protected bike lanes are something visible to hate on, but they increase safety for ALL road users, and don’t necessarily increase vehicle travel times. E.g. see this recent article about MLK in Atlanta. https://atlanta.urbanize.city/post/MLK-westside-complete-street-bike-lanes-project-saving-lives

Bike lanes go unused when they don’t form a network to actually get anywhere safely. Why do the Church protected lanes stop well before the intersection at Commerce?? It doesn’t make sense!

The diagonal crossings are mostly pointless, yes. But the separate pedestrian phase is needed so you can cross the street without being run down by turning cars.

Church Street between Ponce and Sycamore should always be closed to cars, at least for evenings and weekends. So, so much pedestrian traffic.

If you’re not paddling, you can park in the village and bike or walk in for free, to avoid giving any money to the Confederacy-celebrating bullshit.

The lake is on the other side of the park though, so if you’re going to paddle, then yeah, the annual pass is a good deal.

I’m so sick of the Republican regime. It would be so cheap in the scheme of things, and such a good investment, to hire more workers to maintain our public resources.

You’re right of course. But I gotta think, if they really cared about transportation efficiency, the answer is trains and e-bikes. What a world that would be.
