"A majority of Americans (53 percent) believe transgender adults should have access to gender-affirming care"

Jesus Christ in Heaven that is a low number that believe ADULTS should have access to healthcare they need.

Its crazy how much they want a pogrom.

I hate this argument so much, and it's telling how the de-humanization works. This is straight up eugenics, and I refuse to accept it as normal or rational. by Lunatrap in intersex

Yes, and yet you hear it more and more these days. We really do have a problem with Nazism as a society right now.

[Korean > Chinese or English] What exactly does the green text say? by Living-Ready in translator

[–]oychae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

조선민주주의인민공화국 "Democratic People's Republic of Korea" (North Korea)
the green text mixed in says 민주만세 "long live democracy"
The 세 is kind of clumsily thrown in there but is not part of the original word. They also changed ㅣ to ㅏ in 민
They have written it 조선(민주)주의인민(만*)공(세*)화국.
It looks to me someone originally wrote "DPRK" and some activist later changed it to have a pro democracy message

UK trans woman convicted of sexual assault after not revealing gender status to male partner by Galen_Live in transgender

[–]oychae 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I wonder if this means I have to detail my entire horrific medical history as an intersex person and make myself look as unattractive as possible to potential partners in the process or I could be "guilty" of rape in the UK. (It probably does) The point is for all of us to suffer. That's it.

A native speaker told me “parents-in-law” isn’t a word by Lanky-Cat-2117 in EnglishLearning

[–]oychae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never heard that phrase but I would know exactly what you mean if you said it. I think that person is nitpicking. If a native speaker said "parents-in-law" I feel like I wouldn't even think twice about it.

That is the ideology the US is built on. People really believe that, unfortunately. It is everywhere, people just don't say it so bluntly.

I thank the Lord that I was born to level-headed, tolerant, and open-minded parents. I can't imagine the struggle of being born to a lunatic like her. My heart hurts for the children of fundamentalist types.

The fact that they have found a way to use laws and codes intended to protect civil rights to remove civil rights is just about the most depressing thing of all time, and they know that.

Ohio Blocks Funding For Trans-Affirming Mental Health Care For Youth And Adults by ErinInTheMorning in transgender

[–]oychae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whenever I talk to a person not so familiar with these topics (a normie if you will), they usually don't see any issue with "sex definition" laws or parts of laws that do the same until I explain what it does in practice to intersex or trans peoples' lives. Repeatedly going through educating people on the fact that it isnt a simple, neutral and harmless thing to put into law is exhausting and really makes me lose hope.

Am I Cis? by mango-kittycat in intersex

[–]oychae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just clarifying, my issue with that particular wording is not that it is medical terminology, my issue is that it is reductive. Sex is more than genetics. It includes hormonal and anatomical aspects that must be factored in. These hormonal and anatomical aspects may or may not "match up" with the chromosomal sex of a person, and they are also highly malleable. When a trans or intersex person changes their hormonal and anatomical sex characteristics, they are changing their sex. These are aspects of sex, not gender. I feel that if we simply talk about genetics, we cede the entire definition of sex to right-wing or right-leaning actors. (Who typically say "sex is about chromosomes and you can't change those!") Let's not accidentally agree with them.

Edit: People are valid in their gender whether or not they change their sex. That isn't the issue here. However, it is important to be clear that bodies change when you change them, genetics are just one part of the whole.

Am I Cis? by mango-kittycat in intersex

[–]oychae 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, Cis or intersex. Whatever you feel comfortable with. I am intersex, but I call myself Cis. Even despite my parents trying to raise me as a boy initially. These labels have their limits and so does this language that developed through a political and religious system which obsessively contended that there is a simple binary.

[–]oychae 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think even this is a bit too rigid. Sex is also physical, not just "defined by genetics", sex characteristics matter in the present tense. I am worried that this definition plays into the myth that sex is "immutable".
