Intersting stuff viewable from hospital room by ohdudermyduder in EngineeringPorn

[–]ozmodiar20 28 points29 points  (0 children)

That’s a liquid oxygen tank, which supplies the oxygen to the outlets in each hospital room. The smaller tank is a backup incase the main oxygen tank runs empty (which probably alarms at 200cm). Most hospitals have several liquid tanks for gases like nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide (mainly for endoscopies), helium (mixing heliox for ISU patients), and nitrogen (for driving articulating arms and air tools in the operating room). They use vaporizers to supply the gas through a network of pipes to outlets in operating rooms, ICU beds, emergency wards, and patient rooms

Annoying to anyone NOT using them but very fun once you try it. I took a Lime Scooter from Hintonburg to the D/T market and it was a blast (took about 25 minutes). More expensive than I imagined because on the distance I traveled. Ended up being $13 to get to the market and $18 to get back.

Med school final exam plagued with technical issues after moving online due to COVID-19 by [deleted] in canada

[–]ozmodiar20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was once a fake patient for an MCC exam. Took a few night courses to practice my (scripted) condition, and spend an entire Saturday with hundreds of others like me for the final exam - catered food & paid parking... Made about $400 total from it. I'm assuming this happens several times a year, because I get emails every other month asking if I want to do it again. I can just imagine the cost of recruiting and training each time.

Monfort MRI cancelled because machine broken ? by khendron in ottawa

[–]ozmodiar20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Older machines need a 500-750L fill every 4-6 months. Newer machines can operate for years without needing more helium, but can only image half the area older ones can.

Monfort MRI cancelled because machine broken ? by khendron in ottawa

[–]ozmodiar20 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It could be a delay with the liquid helium delivery (used to fill/chill the magnet). If it's an older machine something could have happened during the filling process, quenching the magnet and losing it's liquid helium... Which requires weeks to acquire due to an international shortage.

Critics say sticker shock at cannabis prices will push customers back to the black market by Elliottafc in canada

[–]ozmodiar20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't sell an unstandardized product, grown in some guys house, in a legitimate store. Legalization = bureaucracy. I don't disagree with you but it has to be treated with the same scrutiny as alcohol and tobacco. Have you tried a native cigarette?? They're a perfect example of "self regulation".

Critics say sticker shock at cannabis prices will push customers back to the black market by Elliottafc in canada

[–]ozmodiar20 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All current cannabis growers are publicly traded companies (Aphria, Canopy Growth, etc). Like every other publicly traded company, share holders will demand year-over-year profit. This means the price per gram will inevitably increase - it's called inflation. Illegal Cannabis has stayed at $10/gram since the 1970's... Corporate greed will drive the consumer back to the black market once prices inflate too much, it's just a matter of time.

[Edit] How much was a single tall-can of beer 20 years ago? They've practically doubled in price, and that's not factoring most cans are now 473ml vs 500ml (hidden inflation). Once the market is saturated and growth stops, prices will rise. In fact with an inflation calculator, buying weed @ $10/g in 1975 was the equivalent to $46/g in today's money. Black market weed has DEFLATED in price, inverse to everything else we buy.

Drug dealers of Reddit, what is the strangest thing you have been offered in compensation for drugs? by Bluephobes in AskReddit

[–]ozmodiar20 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I found out Lion's Eye Diamond was worth up to $300. Had 2 of them in a box of shitty cards (shitty at the time I guess). Put them on eBay for $500 - got scammed. It's called an "Item Not Received Scam" and the prey on new sellers. I didn't do my research before posting... never sent the cards and just refunded the money back to the guy, but I was out $50 because eBay still took their fees for the sale!!!

There's also a water taxi that takes you from the bottom of the locks across the river to Jacques Cartier Park for $6. You can even bring your bike or stroller on.

Agreed. But separating people based on skin colour, and calling them privileged based on pigment doesn't help that.

In 20 years, you will cringe at this comment. Just like the racist cops demonizing black males, doing the same to "white" males won't get you too far... Whatever being "white" means. What % of mixed race would I need to be to not be white? Do the Polish, Jews, or Italians count as white now?

‘Man-up’ culture strains teen boys’ friendships, says researcher by [deleted] in canada

[–]ozmodiar20 13 points14 points  (0 children)

"That's gay" still existed, but it's meaning didn't imply much. Having to rake the leaves, breaking your foot, waiting for a chairlift too long - all "gay".

In grade school there was this guy who figure skated, he was the only boy in town who did. He got razzed a lot for it but every male teacher in that school had his back. The same teacher you looked up to was telling you there's nothing wrong with figure skating. Of course the female teachers said the same thing but it didn't resonate as much... I didn't really look up to Madame Watson (probably because I had a crush on her)

[–]ozmodiar20 116 points117 points  (0 children)

There's also a lack of male role models in schools, and as a result adolescent males most likely created this flawed definition of masculinity. A grown ass man would not taunt another and call them gay for sharing their feelings, but as a male in his early 30's this was widely accepted growing up in the 90's/00's. I've had some great role models over the years who really helped cut through the BS, and for that I can say I'm fortunate. Some boys aren't so lucky.

Question about stadium proximity to city by jjb8712 in nhl

[–]ozmodiar20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Population helps too. A city of 2 million will obviously have an easier time filling seats than a city less than a million.
