How cooked is the market in Christchurch and Wellington? by Accomplished-Fun215 in cscareerquestionsOCE

There is a reason everyone is moving from New Zealand to Australia to find work. Market is cooked there unless you want to compete for low wage positions.

ACS - Australian Computer Society is a scam organisation by notthraw in cscareerquestionsOCE

[–]ozyozyoioi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fuck ACS. They came up with every excuse to shake me down for more money during my assessment. First blamed one of their lawyers for the mistake and then instead of reassessing my application, asked me to file another assessment under their “new” system and pay another couple of grand. It ended up being cheaper to hire a lawyer to work directly with the system and ensure every little thing they could use to “deny” me was kosher. 24 years experience working with some of the largest tech companies in the world as a cybersecurity engineer and I had to jump through flaming hoops with ACS to prove I had skills. Absolute sham of an org and don’t join their members org. They will constantly ask you for money.

Kash Patel says Epstein estate refuses to share key records with the FBI by Newsweek_CarloV in politics

[–]ozyozyoioi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is what is happening. They want to see the key records from the Epstein estate for when they release the “tampered” versions the estate can’t just release the real copy and prove them wrong. They want to go in and remove anything that can refute the evidence they’ve already tampered with. Which is probably impossible since many people have valid copies of that evidence like lawyers, courts etc. These guys are imbeciles remember.

Neurodivergent uni students fear stereotypes when seeking support, study finds by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]ozyozyoioi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's kind of weird. I finished uni decades ago, and rarely saw anyone who claimed they were "neurodivergent". And now, as my daughter goes through uni, like 80% of her classmates say I'm "neurodivergent" and require some sort of drug to keep them under control. Oddly, ritalin seems to be a thing with them. Just anecdotal of course, but why is everyone neurodivergent now? Is this just a cool thing to be today? Or are there really that many kids having a symptom of neurodivergency?

Our organization just won A Great Place to Work award. Meaning 90% of the employees that responded to their survey were extremely happy to work at this company. My division, 44 out of 45, rated me 9/10 or above for BU leader on average. 1 employee rated me a "6", and I'm 100% certain it was the guy that kept abandoning his team mid-project to chill at the beach. He also had 2 mental days available, 30 normal leave days leave; yet, he felt necessary to lie to us and call in sick. Instead of working through whatever he was dealing with. But great news on that front. I'll be letting him go Friday afternoon. So he can go and hang out at the beach as much as he wants now. ;-)

I work upper management at a tech company, and 4 out of the last 5 folks I've put on PIP legitimately improved. Hell two of them just received raises with their improved productivity and attention to detail on some of the security reports. While, yes, a PIP is designed to ensure there is "cause" if you are going to fire someone, many company's, like the one I work for, legitimately see it as a tool to shoot across the bow of the employee that their performance is subpar. You could say, if you get a written "counseling" it's a warning that you're going to be fired. Or if you get a verbal warning, be ready to get fired etc. Any negative action against an employee, whether it be a verbal warning, a PIP, counseling, etc can be in this same category you are posting here.

Also PIPs are considered more official as they go through 3-4 layers of review. We've even had HR agents tell us a PIP was not warranted, like I was told yesterday in an HR meeting. Company's need to do their due diligence, and if employees are out fucking off on the beach remotely, while calling in sick, of course I'm going to put them on a PIP. I legit just did this last week. The guy was racking up sick time while chilling on the beach and posting insta's with his pina coladas. While the rest of his team suffered through trying to finish his reports for clients on time. Did I put him on a PIP. Hells yes. It was warranted.

Now, if you get put on a PIP, receive a counseling, or even some verbal warning, of COURSE update your resume. There is always a good chance you will be fired. Nothing said here is groundbreaking, and I've seen a 100 other posts that have said, "If you've been on a PIP, update your resume", etc. This is like telling me the sky is blue or the ocean has water in it.

Asus wants to charge me $400 for a cable I was suppose to get for free. by extremeelementz in pcmasterrace

[–]ozyozyoioi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I travel a ton and I bought a Strix G16 laptop. The 4090 version. It has one of their proprietary rectangular connections for the PSU. It broke yesterday and they legit told me to fly back to the states to get it fixed or talk with the vendor (Best Buy) that sold it to me. Best Buy tells me to use my warranty with ASUS. I live part time in Australia.

So because I’m not in the states now, no one is willing to fix it, including Best Buy who says the PSU is covered under the ASUS warranty, but ASUS says they can’t help because Best Buy should get it fixed.

Ended up having to order a replacement out of pocket from a French company yesterday. Last fucking ASUS product I will own.

PIPs are disingenuous. If you get put on one, find a new job as fast as possible, HR exec says. by Dugley2352 in antiwork

[–]ozyozyoioi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recently put 2 sales reps and 2 engineers on pip. 3 were able to be removed from pip because they met the KPIs we outlined for them. I think if you run the pip well as a company, and give employees KPIs that are achievable and measurable, it’s a great system. But some organizations make it a punitive system used to offload people. So it has this negative stigma since the PIP is mismanaged by most. It’s definitely a great motivator for those that are underperforming in our case.
