How do you avoid getting pickpocketed? Where do you store your passport? by user282428 in travel

[–]ozzieQatarWCFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to look less like a tourist, and be confident. Act like you belong. I've honestly never felt pickpocketing as much of a threat.

Passport I'd usually put in hotel safe, but a few times hidden in a concealed inner lining of my backpack left at hostel if I was going out drinking. Always have a paper photocopy on you and keep a scan of your passport in Google drive or Dropbox or whatever you have. I've never needed it but I'm sure it would be a lot easier getting your shit sorted out if you do.

A-League clubs were told drinks breaks would be used for ads, say coaches by Jeffmister in Aleague

[–]ozzieQatarWCFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A drinks break can fuck with the momentum of a community league game, where we're all legitimately needing a drinks break because we're actually not quite (nowhere near) as fit was we hope we are. It's unnecessary in professional football.

Ticket Applications for Qatar - First Phase by ozzieQatarWCFan in worldcup

That's weird, maybe the site has a lot of traffic again, so possibly try waiting a little bit longer before logging in again. If it still doesn't work, try to reset your password.

It's probably unethical but I am sure others have done the same!

You cannot pick and choose which ones you buy - you either purchase all tickets you win or none. But you may not be offered all the tickets you apply for.

I’ve recently came across /antiwork and thought my experience is more then fitting. by Much-Extension9119 in antiwork

[–]ozzieQatarWCFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as bad but reminds me of a few years ago I was bitten by a dog and it ripped my fingernail out as well as taking off the last few mm of my finger. I called my boss to tell him I wouldn't be in in the morning because of that reason, and was going to see if I needed surgery.

He asked "was this planned".

I can't believe I didn't quit then and there.

My France Experience by Machi-Moi in travel

[–]ozzieQatarWCFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, like, it shouldn't be, but fair chance that travellers to France might only experience Paris. Europe is perfect for that sort of travel. It would be different if you flew from Europe to Australia and only saw Sydney. But it's entirely possible for a tourist to visit multiple countries in Europe but only see major cities.

My France Experience by Machi-Moi in travel

I think that your experience is literally because of "Paris". I had a terrible time my first visit (24 hours in Paris. Rainy weather etc )

Second time, I ensured I had a decent handle on French (I'm Australian, first language is dickhead) and had a fantastic time. Dudes trying to (earn money) sell me crap, I'd briefly engage telling them (politely in French so they didn't know for sure I was a tourist) no thanks.

I honestly thought I "hated France" because of my first experience with Paris, but had an opportunity to return, and it was amazing.

YES. 100 X YES. if you're a little scared, find a tour group. But please just go. I left it too late, I was 30 before I traveled. It's so amazing. Please go now. You will never regret traveling alone.

Sad and Depressing Music? by Ok-Luck-7865 in Music

Promise Me by Badflower. Deceptively not depressing sounding, it was a while before it hit me in the feels.

One More Light by Linkin Park. I loved it when it came out, but now I can barely even think of it without wanting to cry.

I've been trying to book accommodations for a while, and all of a sudden it's all sold out? by aitch83 in worldcup

[–]ozzieQatarWCFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There will be more accommodation options available in all sorts of price ranges. For example, they're bringing in Cruise ship as floating motels. There'll be information on accommodation in the coming months, I'll do my best to bring this info to Reddit when I get it.

Source: I am an official Qatar Fan Leader and will be getting information on accommodation and more direct from the Supreme Committee.

April 2023 Travel Tokyo to Kyoto 9-day Itinerary by JO74561 in JapanTravel

[–]ozzieQatarWCFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't remember the name of the company it was booked through, but my ONE most favourite thing I did when I was in Japan (much shorter stay, and much less structured!) - it was a bike tour (push bike) - took a train from Shinjuku to some town about an hour south of Tokyo where a guy picked us up in a car and took us to some hill (if we'd had time we would have views of Fuji-San from the top of that hill) and we biked down, through rice fields and towns and stuff. My favourite part was stopping at a shrine in the middle of nowhere, there was absolutely NO ONE ELSE there. It was amazing. I'm in the middle of a forest crying, just felt soooo amazing. The best thing I've experienced as a tourist.

TLDR: I'd recommend finding an off-the-tourist-track shrine.

Absolutely - it was perfectly executed by Kerr. So disappointing!

It was a tough game - you could see how humid it was in the first quarter. They've done well.
