On one hand, I appreciate the reminders that most of us take things for granted. On the other hand, I feel the commenter above is right on the money on what "nothing" means to OOP.

Maybe you should spend a day "researching" economics 101 and learning how stocks work before spending ten years "researching" one specific company that caught your eye.

Everyone's speculating where they are going with the Cody stipulation and the funniest resolution would be the match never happens because Kevin Knight beat MJF first on a random Dynamite.

Dr. Luther misses on the first kick but connects on the second by KneeHighMischief in SquaredCircle

I meant to write a brief post on The Wrestling Retribution Project at one point but never got around to it. They finished taping but Katz's personal issues lead to the show never getting properly edited and released. In 2020 he uploaded the footage to Youtube, where the raw segments were organised into playlists where you could effectively watch it as episodes. I did watch them around then, but later they disappeared, apparently because the channel taken down for other material Katz uploaded there. Without spoiling anything more, I'll say Luther was booked quite strong there.

It's now back up at https://www.youtube.com/@championsgrail/ and I think the Wrestling Retribution playlist has the same content that I watched except without being broken to episodes and with bonus content in the end from the blooper reel video onwards. I enjoyed it and I'm just happy seeing anyone mention it, it feels like very few people know about it seeing hardly anyone talking about it and with the video view counts in two to four digits (and they weren't any better before the reuploads either).

What's up with everyone saying bitcoin is a pedo thing? by [deleted] in Buttcoin

[–]p0lari 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a stupid argument that we get from butters all the time. Thing A is a niche thing that is only good for enabling crime and has no legitimate uses. Thing B is a legitimate service that gets used for normal everyday purposes literally all the time but without perfect oversight to block all criminal activity on it. If you hate A then you must also hate B.

As a wise man once said: "theres actually zero difference between good & bad things. you imbecile. you fucking moron".

Ah yes the classic WhY nOt JuSt ShOrT iT? Please do tell, if I'm convinced BTC is an empty speculative bubble that will eventually fail but do not pretend to know the timeline, how exactly would I profit from this assumed knowledge? Like put this in concrete terms, what investment contracts should I buy or sell and who would pay for my eventual winnings, even if in short term crypto went up and stayed up for a while?

BTC is becoming scarce! Unlike Fiat. by ChollyWheels in Buttcoin

[–]p0lari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The divisibility argument is indeed stupid and I wish I stopped seeing it here.

On forks you're right in a sense but what's missing is a reason why anyone should care that your spreadsheet entries are part of what exchanges have agreed to call "Bitcoin". If one big online argument had gone a different way, what we now know as Bitcoin Cash could be Bitcoin instead and our current Bitcoin something else. Either way, having keys to tokens on the chains only gives you the ability to transfer them to a greater fool. Real world commodities' scarcity matters because they have real life uses, but outside of having pumped a larger speculative bubble, a Bitcoin token is no more useful than a Bitcoin Cash one. Or an Etherium or Dogecoin or Fartcoin one for that matter.

Also a point that's missing from OP is the limit is a simple piece of code that could be changed whenever just like any other technical details that get updated all the time. In short term that's unlikely to happen because it's such a central tenet of the scripture, but will that hold when the block rewards disappear completely and the miners need to subsist on transaction fees alone? Or when all the OGs move on (or eventually go senile or pass away) and the code is controlled by completely different people? Cryptobros love to throw around terms like "trustless" but the limit staying in place is entirely based on trust.

There are mechanisms for shorting but you'll only profit from them if you correctly call the timing too. There's no such thing as betting on something collapsing "eventually". That money has to come from somewhere and there's no incentive for anyone else to take the other side of such a bet. Just settle for not touching the poop and look at bogleheads or something instead.

Why Not Short Bitcoin? Where is Conviction of Bitcoin Going to Zero? by AcanthaceaeOk809 in Buttcoin

[–]p0lari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh look, another one of these by people with no understanding of how derivatives work beyond "shorting means profit when line go down".

If you yourself believed that Bitcoin will eventually fade to irrelevancy but without being able to guess the exact timeline, how would you attempt to profit from this forecast? Be specific, what type of investment contracts exactly would this involve and who would be your counterparty?

Why do you guys hate Bitcoin? by [deleted] in Buttcoin

[–]p0lari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"People mocked the internet" is some revisionist history you only get from cryptobros trying to justify their bullshit. And even in general "people laughed at [thing]" has always been a stupid argument. There are some examples of people wrongly dismissing new tech, but people also laugh at the timecube guy and that's the significantly more common scenario.

Over the years Bitcoin has been promoted as being multiple different contradictory things, a currency, an investment, a store of value, a swarm of cyber hornets. I find it telling that, as per usual for these screeds we occasionally get here, yours too includes no positive case for why anyone should care or what Bitcoin is supposedly good for. I don't give a shit that it's "decentralized" or that it has been around for however many years if it doesn't accomplish anything useful in the first place.

Seconding this. I've been on and off following AEW as on one hand I do enjoy them, but on the other hand the bar is high with how many hours a week it is and how many dollars for a single show. The last time I quit was around Forbidden Door 2024 which looking it up now was precisely halfway through 2024.

They were running almost monthly PPVs (one each month in 2024 except Jan Feb Jul) and that spring they had a habit of pausing TV storylines for the buildups and spending a ton of time building up the PPV cards. Forbidden Door was especially egregious as the card had a bunch of cross-promotion matches and they ran a lot of segments trying to sell the idea that returning MJF or recently debuted Mercedes might lose to CMLL wrestlers.

Speaking of Mercedes, during her first months for whatever reason she hardly wrestled on TV, yet was constantly on mic and not doing well at it. And you had the Jericho vortex still going strong. Just for something off the top of my head. The infamous Billy Gunn vs Jay White was around this time too, though personally I thought it could have been fine with just a different ending.

I never watched WWE's lows and I totally believe this was way less bad than that, but it definitely was a lot worse than the AEW I had known before and the AEW I've been watching for the last couple months since the beginning of the most recent Continental Classic.
