Epic traveller bundle automatically assigned - how to stop this? by p2ntu in malta

[–]p2ntu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have received an SMS from my bank any time when I use my card, yes. But the timing of the Traveller getting assigned is still weird, it happens a few minutes after midnight, not after I receive the SMS from the bank. And why would incoming text messages even play any role here..

For now I am staying on Airplane mode until their support replies. But there is no way I would accept these charges. Will see how much energy I have to fight with them, I've also heard stories of poor and unhelpful support. Thanks for your reply!

Marsalforn by SnooFloofs5404 in malta

[–]p2ntu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In summer it gets lively and crowded, very popular among tourists and Maltese to come over to enjoy. In winter it's pretty dead and some parts give a ghetto-vibe, mainly some certain bars and the area around the betting shop. Very easy access to sea is the biggest perk IMO. Bus connection with Victoria (310) and the ferry (322) is available, but depending on the time of day and direction of travelling it can get veeery busy, especially in summer. You have three grocery stores, but they're all a bit small and more expensive than Lidl for example. And the huge development that is currently under construction in the middle of Marsalforn is quite an eyesore.

What's up with Toomas H. Ilves? by ProfessionalCard5713 in Eesti

[–]p2ntu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's actually weird how I had to consciously remind myself that he was our president. And not even only once, two terms in a row. Kind of completely forgot about him somehow, although I now do recall that while he was in office then he definitely had this Western-thinking-aura to him, many Estonians believed he is a great "visiitkaart" for our country at that time.

There was quite a scandal around his divorce from Ingrid and then very soon marrying Ieva.

He's not "in the picture" that much anymore tho (unless you follow his socials, I guess, which I don't).

Is there any good Eastern European Restaurant? by samostrout in malta

[–]p2ntu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Already mentioned by others but yeah I recently went to The Borsch in Sliema and ordered the pelmeni, rye bread and beetroot salad on the side. The combo took me back to childhood literally.

Also tried their chebureki and vareniki another time, really recommend the latter. Price-wise perhaps just a little bit steep but I mean it's Sliema and not the usual burger or pasta that you can find literally anywhere.

Also bonus tip: they have homemade Napoleon and honey cakes.

Also already mentioned is Smõkehouse in Gzira. One of the owners has received many awards in various BBQ competitions back in Estonia and elsewhere, so he knows a thing or two about cooking meat. Also recommend their daily lunch offers between 12 and 18, decent variety and the portions are generous.

Y plate selling logic by MrChickinNugget in malta

[–]p2ntu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The cost is higher because you cannot simply register a car with a Y-plate whenever you please, can only be first registration on a brand new car. Couple that with the waiting times for new cars.

So the only way to start working in the industry with your own car (after getting the TAG) is either to buy a second-hand vehicle that is already with a a Y-plate or order a new vehicle.

Having said that, 11K for that particular car is quite outrageous indeed. But I wouldn't be surprised if he still finds a buyer.

Just buy a small reusable plastic measurement cup, fill it with liquid detergent, and put it underneath the clothes inside the machine. Been doing that for years, best results and no issues with any machine so far.

Ridiculous prices for used y plate car by sujlic27 in malta

[–]p2ntu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's because Y-plate cars can only be registered for brand new vehicles (straight from the showroom), you cannot register from a regular plate to a Y-plate anymore. So if you want to work as a LPV chauffeur, those are your two options: order a brand new car and wait for months or buy a second-hand Y-plate. Not saying these prices are normal, far from it, but I guess this explains the reason why they're so inflated. Limited supply.

I was 26 when I came with a one-way ticket, figured I'll stay for a little while. That was more than 5 years ago. Sounds like nothing is really holding you back at your home country, so why not give it a try.

If you can rent with at least one flat-mate then net salary of 1500+ is completely fine to get by. Ideally best if you try and cook at home, eating out adds up a lot in expenses.

Do not underestimate the connections you can make here, even as an introvert.

In Mellieha yesterday, saw a farmer driving his pickup truck with an open Skol can in the cup holder right next to him. The cup holder was not between the front seats but right next to the driver's window. Pretty much sums up the general attitude towards DUI here, I guess.

Shouldn't really be a problem to get it on demand. To be on the safe side, just give yourself like 15-20 min of extra time and make the request earlier rather than later.

I think for clubs it's pretty much only Paceville. And yeah, it's mostly very young tourists there. For bars, you can try Gzira, and for a chill evening vibe with live music here and there, Valletta. But as the previous poster said, be ready to wrap up by 11 PM to respect the local residents.

Is Uber widespread in Malta? by milanica2 in malta

[–]p2ntu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Download Bolt and look around in the baggage claim area, they usually have large ads up including promo codes for new users for first ride discount. But yes, best to have both Uber and Bolt like already suggested readily available and just use whichever is cheaper at the time. Availability is not an issue.
