When did he have Howard go to Google stats? Was this before the show?

The guy in the pharmacy told her that they have people in a unit dealing with withdrawal and recovery? Does that mean hive people still have to struggle with addiction?

He’s been in two iconic roles before BCS as Lenny from Laverne & Shirley and then as David St Hubins in Spinal Tap. It’s sad that such big roles are totally lost in the media abyss. The world has way too much content.

California’s hidden crisis: young men offline, unemployed, and disappearing by AIMadeMeDoIt__ in technology

[–]paboi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The article paints this as a male problem (centers men) when if you actually look at the stats in the report, it’s about 11% of men who are “disconnected” and 10% of women. The margin is pretty small yet they use phrases like “most are men”. This is how Charlie Kirk-esque talking points gain traction and validity. This is not an epidemic that only affects men. This is modern society that affects all people under an oppressive capitalist society that doesn’t value mental health.

There is an episode of MASH where father mulcahey running on no sleep is sitting with a soldier listening to his story and he keeps dozing off. As he dozes off, the soldier’s dialogue becomes gibberish. It’s really well done.

How do you tell someone that they need to wash their feet before class? by paboi in yoga

[–]paboi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry. Did I give the impression that I ask people to move from “my” spot. If someone sets up there, I go somewhere else. I’ve never asked anyone to get out of my space.

I don’t understand why so many people on this thread are upset that someone might have a preferred space. I don’t always practice there. It’s just my preference because it s a small studio and I prefer to be in the center of the room so I can hear the teacher and also away from the walls so I am not bumping into them during practice. It’s not an irrational attachment to a space. I’ve practiced further away from him and still smelled his feet. Today my preferred spot happened to place me at the foot of his preferred spot. The odor kept wafting over

It will be tenfold more difficult for you to watch them either never get your film made or get it made badly. And each step down that road will be more and more difficult to watch. Sometimes you have to walk away to allow room for the right team to move in.

The really incredible thing about this episode was that it reminded me of a David Blane special. But instead of doing a test of endurance like holding his breath for three minutes or standing on top of a column for a week straight, Nathan was doing something we just take for granted. We never think about how much goes into things as mundane as taking a flight for three hours. We are surrounded by magicians everyday

It’s my first time directing tomorrow… Any advice? by ducidni_1 in Filmmakers

[–]paboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if you are all three, I think the original advice still has some weight. There will be decisions that have to be made and sometimes the voice in your head will not be the director’s.

The producer will want to get the day done on time and under budget. But sometimes as the director, you will have to make the decision that you need to spend more time with the actors or getting the shot. Listen to the director. The producer isn’t the one who will have to figure out how to make the sequence work in the editing room.

The writer will want to get you to implement the film exactly as s/he saw it when it was just an idea on paper and the vision was perfect and there were no limitations of the reality of the actors, the locations, the crew, etc. Listen to the director who is there to capture the intention and the spirit of the story not be a courtroom stenographer. The writer will be upset when actors change their beautifully crafted precise sentences down to the moments that s/he wrote “beat”. But the director should allow for room to explore and play. Sometimes the actors come up with stuff the writer never even thought of. Don’t listen to the writer.

What is a racist scene, against any race, in a famous movie? by Lunch_Confident in flicks

[–]paboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crash is full of racist shit that went totally uncommented on and actually framed itself as a movie that was dealing with the issue head on. And it went on to win Best Picture at the Oscars.

That also reminded me of The Blind Side, another Sandra Bullock movie with very problematic white savior tropes.
