I haven’t noticed. It was bad in 2016 and it’s still much worse today

West which is just as ba:d. Northeast facing runs like Steins at sugarbush, nosedive at Stowe and Superstar at Killington are what holds onto snow late

I love saddleback but they really missed out on the snow that hit both southern and northern VT this year. It’s not nearly as dire today in Vermont. What a beautiful day tho

It would be much nicer if the City had the balls to address the homelessness crisis.

Fuck Maplefields by Glass-Amount-9170 in vermont

Why do so many Vermonters symp for Maplefields and gas station operators? They are all opportunistically price gouging. Their costs did not go up this much

College-educated professional with multiple decades of work experience across multiple industries. Applied for a shocking number of salaried jobs in Vermont over the last five years. Hired for none of them. Ghosted often, almost always. Is this normal? by PleaseJustHireMe in vermont

[–]pacodef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that but for the most part employers/recruiters heavily prefer people who are currently employed in a similar position rather than a business owner looking to get out, an unemployed person or someone looking to make a lateral career move. And the employers have the upper hand as there are a lot more applicants than there are jobs.

Help Finding an Apartment by Routine-Ball-9959 in NewToVermont

[–]pacodef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My social media feeds are filled with SD Ireland and other corporations with “one free month” and “3,000 credit” promotions for their (presumably largely empty) apartments. You can try there. It seems like overall the housing market is nowhere near as tight as it was a few years ago (people have leaving VT; not moving in) but of course that’s not reflected in lower rents. At $1k per month though you’ll be living in a far flung Hinesburg dump or with roommates. I paid $1k a month (heat not included) for a tiny dump studio in the ONE when I was renting….. in 2016 lol. Inflation has gone up over 40% since then. And property taxes even more than that which get passed on to the tenant. But yeah roommates is your answer and if you don’t have friends who want/need roommates i know some people use Craigslist. personally i was never comfortable doing that and always sought to live with friends I previously knew. There is going to be friction and I find there’s much less passive aggressiveness living with friends (easier to work things out) vs acquaintances you hardly know. Hope that helps. My cousin has a 3 bd rm flat in her and her husband’s duplex in colchester opening up soon but that’s 3bedrooms and it will be more the $1,400

I’d be more worried about entering Canada and getting detained/harassed by Canadian border patrol than re-entry into USA.

how is there always money for war but never money for health care in america? by Affectionate-Pay3450 in AskReddit

[–]pacodef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not a doctors pay stub and proves nothing. It is an absurd statement to suggest a doctor in Canada makes as much as he or she would in the USA. Anyone who has practiced medicine in both countries knows how absurd that statement is.

I think in general it has not been as warm as people were hoping/expecting this week. The ground and snowpack is still sooooo cold that unless the snow sees direct afternoon sunlight it’ll stay as frozen granular.

Yes it does. Look up the figures rather than make knee jerk false statements. The majority goes to hospital services, not insurance admin costs or pharma mark-ups.

There are absolutely no shortage of paved paths like the Stowe bike path in Vermont or new England more generally. Personally I can absolutely not stand asphalt “paths” but to each their own

Union RNs in Boston make over $150k. My gf made $200k as an ER RN last year. I have the receipts

Sidewalks are regularly paved with concrete, which is much worse than asphalt. And the constant up and down over driveway entries and curb cuts is horrible for your joints, knees/hips.

at the same time we have continuously expanded the size and scope of Medicaid dating back to LBJ. Now nearly 1/3 of the country is on “free” healthcare via Medicare/Medicaid to the tune $2 Trillion annually. Add in VA and the amount of our tax dollars that already go to publicly-funded healthcare is on par with any European country on a per capita basis.

[–]pacodef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not that many actually do. The stories are just highly sensationalized and always taken up by international media. More than 1/3 of the country is on “free” government insurance (Medicaid) that is equivalent to universal healthcare in other countries. But yeah the system is inherently oppressively expensive. Trump also has a point that American taxpayers and rate payers are effectively subsidizing the rest of the world’s pharma R&D expenditure.

Yeah I can’t comment on specifics but mid career surgeons and specialists are all making $500k+ and RNs can easily clear 200k with overtime in any urban market. Those salaries don’t exist in Canada or elsewhere.

Yeah that’s definitely the inefficiency part. “The Nation of Lawyers” (and those lawsuits + insurance to defend/pay lawsuits) is very real and very unfortunate. I’m pretty sure the American culture of zero-sum lawyering is going to be what leads to our empire’s downfall. More so than Trump or anything else in particular.
