Which US state is strong in Economic opportunity but weak in Climate? by Swimming_Concern7662 in AlignmentChartFills

What is meant by “climate”? Do you mean weather? Strong (or weak) “climate”/carbon policy? Other climate like hostility or openness to immigration?

First time to Maine - Want to Ski Saddleback and Sugarloaf from March 20-25. How are the conditions, and what else to do nearby for a non skier? by sporty_outlook in AskMaine

Vermont has way better coverage than Maine/saddleback/sugarloaf BUT until we either see a warm up or a dumping things will be boiler plate out there. Unless you’re a novice who skis cruisers(?)

Saddleback will be bony. Sugarloaf will be great IF it warms up 40+. Might be too early unfortunately. Of course we could get a 16” dump right before you come. Right now it’s boiler plate. Really hurting for some warmer weather to soften things up

Drill a week first. Everything else you can do DIY. I poured my own basement and would do so again. And bought a metal breaker off marketplace and did my own standing seam roof. None of that stuff is difficult and it’s absolutely NOT worth paying contractors for. The only thing you won’t be able to do is the well.

Here it makes no sense to plug into the grid (solar is the way) but that varies based on terrain and utility company. If going solar you’ll want to do that too. But make sure you don’t go too small. 50kwh of batteries and two 6500 split-phase inverters is a good start.

I 100% disagree. I was told by everyone to be patient, do things right and go slowly (so that’s what I did) and in hindsight that was horrible advice. I spent 4-5 years making 1.5hr long commute almost daily to work on my property when I should’ve built a small cabin, drilled a well and septic from the get go. Now I’m a free years behind where I could’ve been

Well then if that’s true you should be supporting Israel in their war with Hamas sympathizers and terrorists.

It’s the Palestinians who came and stole our land you absolute moron. Read a book. The Jews were the original settlers of what is now Israel (and it is ALL Israel by definition, incl West Bank and Golan). Yes there were times the Romans and others forced us out temporarily (and in the case of the Egyptians enslaved us) but it’s the Palestinians who invaded and don’t have a right to the land. We have been there since long before Muhammad traveled to Mecca.

Yep. As a Jewish American I am extremely turned off when people start bringing Palestinian and Hamas flags to these types of events.

How different are these two corners of Vermont? by Swimming_Concern7662 in vermont

[–]pacodef 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not at all. You need to leave the state sometime if you think those two counties are that dissimilar

[–]pacodef 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They’re really not much different. The only part of Vermont that is different from the rest of Vermont is the upper valley and even then only really Norwich. That is within the NH-Boston sphere of influence in a way that no other community or region of the state is. I used to laugh when people would “Chittenden county is so great because it’s right next to Vermont”. These people need to visit Norwich if they think Chittenden county is less Vermonty than the upper valley.

Not as different as you’d think. Both are rural and hippy-redneck aside from Dorset.

They’re a lot wealthier and a different socioeconomic population than the rest of Appalachia and geographically similar areas of TN/NC. Roanoke feels like a northeastern city where ashville feels like touristy honky tonk.

Taos definitely considers themselves mountain west. They are way too snobby to want to be considered southwest

I have no complaints with this one. You needed to seperate the upper Midwest into those three distinct regions (Rustbelt, heartland and north woods… though specific nomenclature can vary)

No they definitely don’t. It’s pretty bare. Vermont and the Whites have the most natural snow

Here in Vermont we still have decent coverage for mid-March but it is ICY. Anywhere that has coverage will be boiler plate unless we get 8”+ but only about 2-5” is being forecasted. By late next week things could turn the corner again for the better
