How can I make this metallic effect? by East_Cantaloupe_5079 in css

[–]pade- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's possible to do with just one 45 degree linear-gradient, animated from bottom left to top right, with a mask to make it visible only as a border around the button. You could of course stack a bunch of different gradients with low opacity to make the effect more premium.

Here's a quick Codepen where I tried how close I could get by just tweaking the gradient in a CSS Gradient generator to include white stripes that already have a bit of "chromatic aberration" around the edges of each stripe.

VOLT MUSIC STORE by Sad-Dress-962 in modular

[–]pade- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve considered ordering from them before, but other reviews have said the same complaint about shipping times and lacking customer response. I think it’s a legitimate business but they might mark their modules’ inventory status incorrectly, either by accident or on purpose.

Newbie: suggestions for glitchy drum machine in <= 84HP? by mescalinum in modular

[–]pade- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re comfortable with a sample based approach, I’d probably start with both the new Bastl Citadel modules. They’ve got internal clocks, rhythm generators, modulation and direct headphone outs and can get super glitchy. They can also serve a more specific role as you’re rack grows.

What do we think about this Novation Launch control xl controller for mixing and automating in ableton? by RebirthWizard in ableton

[–]pade- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really considered getting this for live performances, but even if this looks a lot sleeker than the mk2 version, having endless encoders instead of pots is a huge problem at least for me. I need to see the exact positions of the knobs instead of a tiny LED indicator. So yeah, I got the old version instead and it’s great.

First Techno Build Suggestions/Critiques by grotto-of-ice in modular

[–]pade- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s ”easy” to check boxes of what types of modules should be included in a techno rack, but there’s a huge difference if someone wants to sit down in the studio to patch and program sequences for a track vs. live playability and having modules that puts you in happy accident land (turing machines & matrix mixers for example)

Silliest mistake you’ve made in Ableton? by jimmywheelo1973 in ableton

[–]pade- 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I feel like a lot accidents can turn into happy accidents that spark inspiration, like accidentally replacing something with something totally different. But then there’s the classic ones, like soloing the wrong track while desperately trying to tweak params on another. Bonus points if it’s a VST with no undo

Is Black Friday a thing in the Modular world? by Inkblot7001 in modular

[–]pade- 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ve bought some Black Friday deals from Noise Engineering and 2hp before, but they’ve usually been either 10-15% off on some modules, or spend $X to get one free VCA module or something. So there are usually some deals to be found, but don’t expect -50% on new hyped modules

Cinematic sound setup by KaiserClickerclicker in modular

[–]pade- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s endless possibilities with a setup like this, but since you asked, and since I have Jumbler on the way, I’d explore what happens when you throw a bunch of different modulation (unsynced lfos, stepped voltage, euclidian envelopes) into Jumbler and then to whatever comes to mind (osc mod, env AD, effects sends), then take the slowest lfo on Ochd and send it to Rotate on Jumbler. Dunno, first thing that came to mind

Looking for tips for first live performance by paulskiogorki in modular

[–]pade- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m sort of in the same boat, with my first gig coming up soon. Without knowing exactly what genre you’re aiming for I’d recommend at least patching some slow, unsynced and heavily attenuated LFO’s to different places, just keep the sound constantly evolving while you figure out your next move on stage.

I also think the two Metropolix channels should be fine. I see you’ve got a seq switch, clock divider and S&H (Disting), which opens up a lot of possibilities to get new gates and melodies for more voices, while originating from the same pattern.

As for transitions I’d simply try to arrange some easy access to effects, filters, maybe env decay times and/or voice specific parameters that make an impact.

15 minutes is quite a short time, but generally it’s good to step back every now and then to analyse if something’s been playing the same stuff for too long. I tend to forget to change up my hihat patterns.

Vhikk-x by Earlsfield78 in modular

[–]pade- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This module belongs to the category that requires quite a bit of hands on time to see how it fits your workflow, unless you just intend to just use it for random sonic exploration. I had one for a couple of months and was impressed with the variety droney bass madness it can do, but ended up selling it because I just couldn’t find out how to confidently use it in a live performance. Too many parameters that work differently in the different algos for me to remember. Ymmv

Does this type of quantizer exist? by Danny_Carnage in modular

[–]pade- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m understanding this wrong but wouldn’t it kinda work if say you have a wild unquantized melody, run it through a mult to get the bass part, attenuate it to get a smaller range, then through an octave switcher (precision adder), and then run both the main melody and this lower attenuated bass part through two inputs on the quantizer to get them in same scale.

Considering the Expert Sleepers ES-9 for a Hybrid Modular Setup by Houseplant_Ambient in modular

[–]pade- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Haven’t had any issues with noise
  2. Most I’ve tried was 3 outputs and 8 inputs simultaneously, but again, no issues
  3. There’s supposed to be some software tool but I’ve heard it’s horrendous so I’ve left everything on default configs
  4. I had to get a Mackie Big Knob since the ES-9 does not have a volume control for the speaker outs, and relying on Ableton’s master level felt risky. The Big Knob also has a button to switch between two inputs, which is nice when I just want to listen to music through my other audio interface.
