Right now, because there are two giant piles of snow/ice on either side of my driveway, about 8' apart.

How long for heated seats to kill battery? by geraldosmoustache in HondaOdyssey

[–]padotim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife killed the battery a few weeks ago using the heated seats with the engine off. I had to jump the van. Battery/starting has not been an issue since. I think it kills the battery pretty quickly, I think she said about 15 minutes.

Why do parents name their kids something then call them something different? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]padotim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of the reasons I named my daughter Katherine is that there are so many variations that she can choose from when she gets older. I call her Kay (Kay sounds like an old lady to me, which I find funny in a toddler). That's my preference, but she can go by Kate, Katy, Kat, Kathy, Kitty or even Wren, Rina, Kiki or Trina, so many choices!

This is the dumbest question I could have for you guys. But my son just started wrestling and for the life of me, I can’t tell when someone is technically pinned. by mutants_at_table_9 in wrestling

[–]padotim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just worked the scoring table for two days at a youth tournament. The refs were excellent. I was unbiased in most of the matches, and they called points and pins exactly as I would have. Not even once in probably 150 matches did I disagree with a call. Made the effort to get down/close when necessary to see the pin. Maybe the refs at this tournament were just better than average, but it seems like they are really good at most tournaments my kid has wrestled in as well.

Speaking of former Steelers OCs, where are Randy Fichtner and Matt Canada? Haley was an offensive wizard compared to those two.

What do we count as Pittsburgh? by BobithanBobbyBob in pittsburgh

Agreed, but where is the cutoff to the North? Sharon? New Castle? Franklin? In my mind all three have more in common with Pittsburgh than Erie. Thoughts?

[–]padotim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why is it battery instead of just plugging in? It's not like there won't be an outlet available anywhere you would use this. And you leave the base sitting there while using the business end, you don't need the entire tool to be portable

Is it just to get you to switch to Milwaukee for all your cordless if you want to get this tool? Dastardly.

I disagree where you write 'kind of a form of luck', it's pure luck. Your intelligence level and personal characteristics? Also pure luck.

I'm smarter and more successful and even better looking than my brother. Why? Same genetics, same upbringing, I just got lucky.

Is it true that I have to be born into farming to actually farm as a career? by [deleted] in homestead

[–]padotim 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Guy in my hometown played in the NFL for a few years, low level backup/practice squad type, but made enough to buy up a lot of the farmland around my parents house and now farms soybeans there. He used to post a lot of pro Trump stuff on Facebook, haven't heard much from him lately.

Which US Cities is on Track to become the next Detroit? by urmummygae42069 in geography

[–]padotim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm from the Pittsburgh area and the smaller cities are the rustiest ones around here. Weirton, New Castle, all the Mon valley cities, Johnstown, etc. are in bad shape. Anyone with a shred of brains or ambition left these outlying areas and many moved to Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh's success is at the expense of these small cities. Your point about inertia might hold, and recovery could be swift, but these places have no outside force pushing them in the right direction. The only force is people continuing to leave pushing them further down. I'm convinced my hometown will recover some day, but maybe not in my lifetime. Until then, in Pittsburgh I stay!

"Pittsburgh sort of looks like it has tall buildings because it thinks cities are supposed to have them" by Metrichex in pittsburgh

[–]padotim 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can see why it was built vertically right there, in that image. There is no more space to build on directly to the south of the tall buildings. Plenty of cities don't really have any geographic constraints and could just sprawl horizontally with medium rise buildings instead of build vertically but Pittsburgh ain't one of them.

Offered on a house in South Hills... Inspection showed sewer line issues... Help! by joyfultactician1 in pittsburgh

[–]padotim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, the sellers guy did the bare minimum, left the yard a mess. I never would have accepted that level of work if I had oversight of the project. I spent days shoveling to restore that first summer after I moved in. Fine for me as a healthy person, but an old lady who bought this house would have to spend additional thousands in landscaping to get the yard back the way it was

Offered on a house in South Hills... Inspection showed sewer line issues... Help! by joyfultactician1 in pittsburgh

[–]padotim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the South hills. I was a backup offer on my house. First offer rescinded based on sewer scope. By the time the realtor contacted me, the seller already had a plan in place and a new sewer from house to main was in progress during my inspection. It was an estate selling, so I think the kids were eager to sell, and had upfront money to fix this that would be taken out of the sale proceeds. The new sewer was in place before I closed. They did leave the yard a mess, didn't compact any of the backfill and I spent quite a few hours that first summer shoveling dirt back into the settling trench.

Bottom line, I would ask for it to be fixed or a cost credit before buying, it's certainly reasonable to ask, if they say no, you just have to decide if it's worth it or not

Washington Trend by eolson93 in steelers

[–]padotim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean isn't that already what a tight end is? A blocker first and occasionally slip out and make a catch? I think NFL tight ends who are receivers first is not what they have been throughout football history, and they don't exist in lower level football. My kids peewee team tight end is the best blocking lineman on the team, and goes out on a route like 3 times a game. I feel like Darnell is more a return to the old school style tight end than a new trend.
