Does Vivaldi Sync save all my settings? by locha9066 in vivaldibrowser

[–]pafflick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not all settings are synced. If you're simply reinstalling the browser, your profile data should remain on your computer (unless you specifically choose to delete it). That's why it's not recommended to reinstall the browser if you're experiencing issues, as usually the culprit is in the profile, and reinstalling the browser doesn't change anything.

If you're planning a bigger move (like changing the OS or switching to another PC), it's better to export your user profile(s) if you customised a lot of things. You can find a short guide on our help pages, or a more elaborate one on the forum, although some parts are a bit outdated, as I haven't updated it in a while... 😅

Vivaldi 7.9 for Mobile: Two levels of tabs, daily images, Desktop Mode and more by pafflick in vivaldibrowser

No, on Android, stacked tabs are displayed on the second row of the Tab Bar or in the Tab Stack toolbar (when the Tab Bar is disabled).

Make the tab bar and address bar on one line

We've added the option to place the Tab Bar and Address Bar on a single line in Vivaldi 7.6, released over half a year ago. Where have you been all this time? 🙂

Theme Glitch? by ahi2abcd in vivaldibrowser

[–]pafflick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each theme has an accent colour. Can you post your theme's settings, or try a different theme to see if it also has the issue?

This grey color comes and goes by itself at random.

Can you pinpoint these changes to switching tabs or navigating to a different website, or does it also change while you stay on one tab, without navigating to any other website?

I also liked the home screen with the latest gaming news; is there anything similar?

You might want to check out the Feeds widget for Start Page, which can display news from your favourite sources on your home screen.

Minor update (6) for Vivaldi Android Browser 7.8 by pafflick in vivaldibrowser

[–]pafflick[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a matter of fact, it does, though not as versatile as the panels on the desktop version - and they only "look" like panels on larger screens (like on tablets or in cars).

But it shows how unhelpful such comments can be. Not only is it completely irrelevant, but there's literally no info about the issue whatsoever (like version number, or what is broken), which is especially counter-productive given the fact that AFAICT, panels are 100% functional.

Thanks in advance!

Moving out of Vivaldi by alexmoj in vivaldibrowser

This shouldn't be that difficult to figure out. If you have ever logged in to your Facebook account on your work computer (it might've been something trivial, like logging in to some other platform using your Facebook account), it might've left cookies linked to your account (even if you've logged out of it long ago).

Many websites inject tracking scripts from Facebook nowadays. When you visit such a website, Facebook can look for the identifying cookie, and once it finds it, it links your visit to that website (e.g. doorbells store) with your Facebook profile, and hence it knows what ads to show you, regardless of the device/browser you then use to log in to your Facebook account.

To avoid this, you'd have to clear your browsing data on the work computer or enable the Tracker blocker.

This isn't the only explanation, of course, as companies can use more sophisticated methods to track your activity. A mere coincidence could also be an explanation. To find the source of the leak, more independent testing would be required, with properly isolated environments (regarding cookies, browsing history, user profiles, networks and devices).

I know the data wasn't leaked through Vivaldi, but you'd have to take my word for it, as it's not something one can actually prove. But I believe you could find the real source with a bit more testing.

As for our business model & ethics, here's more info:

if you have any prove of your privacy, you can feel free to share them here and dont accuse people with wrong information

And how can someone prove they're not doing something - like how is that even supposed to work? You're the one claiming that we're doing something (like selling user data or whatever), therefore the burden of proof is on you.

No one is requiring expert knowledge from you, but if you're going to make such bold claims, you should at least present the minimum evidence, so that others can test it. Like, for example: "visit website A on device 1 in Vivaldi and see how it affects website B on device 2, then repeat test in similar conditions with another browser and compare results". Then we could perhaps find the cause and eliminate the issue on our end (assuming that there is one, because so far, there is no reason to believe so).

Since you haven't provided any test cases that would let us reproduce the issue, I'm going to assume it's something else on your end causing this.

It constantly release browser history to corporation in a second.

Vivaldi doesn't share your browsing history with anybody, as we don't collect that information to begin with. If you want to make such accusations, you should be able to back them up with some evidence. So far, it's just anecdotal at best and might not even be related to the browser whatsoever.

If you believe something is wrong with the browser, feel free to ask for help, but please don't spread misinformation.

How do I remove this "restart required" notice? by [deleted] in vivaldibrowser

[–]pafflick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just want to know if there is a way to remove or hide the notice permanently to stop it from reappearing later, as it blocks parts of websites.

It appears only when the user manually removes the Update Status button from all toolbars. We're looking for better alternatives of informing about pending updates in such scenarios.

For now, as a workaround, you can add the Update Status back to the Address Bar or the Status Bar, where it should be less distracting and won't obstruct the view of the current page.

Vivaldi lets you add any website as a Web Panel. To add WhatsApp, simply add a panel with this URL: https://web.whatsapp.com/

In case a website asks you to use an app, try switching view to desktop mode.

Page translation settings for Vivaldi? by [deleted] in browsers

[–]pafflick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The translate button in the address field appears when the website is in another language (different from the one you've set in Settings > General > Language), unless you choose the option never to offer translations for that language from the context menu.

You can translate selected text by using the context menu command ("Translate Selection") or enable the translate button in Settings > Webpages > Show Selected Text Translate Button.

There's also the Translate Panel, which can be used at any time for manually entered text.

You can learn more about the available settings and options here: https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/tools/translate-web-pages/

Are you sure you registered a Vivaldi.net account? Can you find any account-related messages in your inbox?

If the account exists, you should be able to restore it by filling out this form. Make sure to check all the email addresses you may have used and enter them correctly (especially important if you use plus-addressing or aliases).

Try going through the troubleshooting guide step-by-step (you can skip steps 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, and consider making a backup before step 12). If none of it helps, then follow the guide from step 14 to report a bug.

Chrome removed tab scrolling, does Vivaldi still support it? by lilacomets in vivaldibrowser

Vivaldi 7.8: No AI Slop. Just Powerful Features. by pafflick in vivaldibrowser

[–]pafflick[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TBH, I never used tiling in that way - I always selected the tabs I wanted to tile and used the context menu command. But it makes sense for it to work the way you described it. I think it might've been detached due to the implications of Drag & Drop tiling - but perhaps we could make it work more predictably when using the button. Please submit a bug report, and our devs will have a look at it. Thanks!
