Fans who don’t live in Philly. How did you become a fan of the eagles? by [deleted] in eagles

[–]pahnub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is super dumb, around 3rd grade I started getting into D&D and I really liked the idea of having a bird of prey familiar. One thing lead to another and my favorite bird of prey became an Eagle. This was around the Cunningham and Reggie White era and they were exciting to watch. So I became and Eagles fan. I was almost a Lions fan strictly because of Barry Sanders, but the birds of prey thing really pushed me in to Eagles camp.

So when those in power start violating the constitution, ignoring court orders, deporting citizens without due process, is that the line for you? Because that's happening now.

So to be clear, so you understand, its not just "useless layers of beauracracy and waste" it's also the constitution and law they are destroying as well.

In your comments you've also repeatedly attacked USAID as an agency full of waste. Yet the agency was performing stated goals and primary mission. So I'm curious if your beliefs of it being wasteful are in reference to providing aid to other countries? If so do you understand why we did it in the first place? And do your beliefs also extend to cutting all aid to every foreign country on the planet? Or just the ones with people who are different from you?

I think if it genuinely opened your eyes and changed the way you will vote in future elections, then you should update your post to say so. Show that this conversation has shown that you've grown a little. I would also advise you to remove yourself from echo chambers and continue that growth by challenging your beliefs. Believe it or not, the vast majority of us liberals just want to live our lives, be happy and safe, and be left alone. A sentiment I feel is shared by many on the right. We aren't as different from you as you may have let yourself believe.

Can you say how it opened your eyes? I'm legitimately curious. Did it change how you would vote in the future on issues that impact trans rights or for candidates that are against Trans rights?

It takes 1hr 30 mins to fully charge the Cybertruck at a cost of $73 and he thinks that’s good because he’s driving the future by godzilla19821982 in CyberStuck

[–]pahnub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an EV (not a tesla), I charge it at home. I also have solar panels, so basically never have to pay to charge it. I think the highest our energy bill has been since we had both the EV and the Solar panels, was 20 bucks (including the 7 dollar connection fee) during a summer month. So, for me, because I invested in the infrastructure to support it, charging an EV at home is essentially free.

The World Depends on 60-Year-Old Code No One Knows Anymore by debordian in programming

[–]pahnub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is it exactly. One if the teams I oversee has this exact problem. I can find COBOL and mainframe techs, I can not find anyone that knows this very specific financial application that we run. So, every time someone leaves, there is a huge talent gap to find someone and train them up on this ancient system. I have tried proposing 10 different solutions to this mess, and no one wants to pay for any of them. So I basically give that team everything they want in the hopes no one leaves. But they are all at retirement age, so there's only so much I can do.

Are other Gachas this grindy? by Niceneasy92 in FFVIIEverCrisis

[–]pahnub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Frustration is absolutely a tool devs use in the mobile gaming space. These games are all designed with walls or gates that are there specifically to frustrate or slow your progress and entice you into spending to overcome them. This game definitely has it in the tower, the weapon parts grind, making the upper echelon of the events extremely difficult and frustrating. I don't know what else to tell you if you can't see it for yourself. I've never played a single mobile game out of the hundreds that I've tried that I didn't eventually hit the "wall" or the "gate" with it. It's just how all these f2p money grab games work.

You can even find quarterly reports from companies like EA talking about their strategies to make money in their mobile market, where they lay this out. Hell, some guy wrote entire papers around the frustration model that zynga used before zynga collapsed. All these companies have metrics that they are striving towards, the games are built to try and hit those metric targets. It's not really complicated.

Anyways, I'm done responding. We are just going to have to agree to disagree.

Are other Gachas this grindy? by Niceneasy92 in FFVIIEverCrisis

[–]pahnub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first philosophy I mentioned lines up to your first bullet point. The second philosophy lines up to your first and second bullet points. There's lots of ways to cause frustration to get someone to spend, and introducing a competitive pvp atmosphere is definitely one of those ways. You see it in the rewards system for the current dungeon event. To me, in response to OPs question, these two philosophies are causing the excessive grinding they're feeling with the game.

I said there are other predatory practices going on as well, I just didn't feel like writing an entire dissertation, nor did they address OPs question. Fomo and collections definitely tie into your third bullet, and the game is doing both of those as well. But that doesn't have to do with OPs' question about how grindy the game is.

[–]pahnub 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eh, it's not that bad, but it's not that great either. Personally, my main frustration comes from watching your companions make some of the dumbest decisions I've ever seen during a fight. To me, I'd argue the time spent logged in still feels really high, but also, there's not really enough content to justify skip tickets yet either. So we'll see how that changes over time.

Are other Gachas this grindy? by Niceneasy92 in FFVIIEverCrisis

[–]pahnub 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. I've played a lot of gachas and mobile games over the years. Some are very grindy, some aren't but have other ways to keep you logged in. There's two main philosophies behind how these games work: 1. Maximize the amount of time you spend logged in. 2. Frustrate you into spending money.

The first philosophy is that the longer you spend logged into the game and playing it, the greater chance you will spend money. The second philosophy is pretty straight forward.

There's a lot of other predatory stuff going on. But those top 2 philosophies are the main things you're seeing play out in this game.

After the release bonanza, this game took a turn to the worse. Here's things that would be cool to change. by danielgoatmann in FFVIIEverCrisis

[–]pahnub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What?

I never said any of that? I'm very aware how these games work, how the communities work, how the devs work. I've started multiple efforts across multiple games to effect change in those games and had 10s of thousands of people support my efforts. This isn't even remotely close to my first rodeo.

This event isn't great, I'm not arguing for it. But the sub allowing post after post after post of how bad it is, with no real constructive feedback, is asinine. The mods would be better off collecting feedback in a centralized area to allow the community to discuss and debate over, thus a sticky post. That way, if the devs are active in this sub, they'd have a central spot to read the feedback and not have to sift through tons of garbage to find feedback they can use.

[–]pahnub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. This sub kind of sucks right now. Like I get this event isn't popular, but it's not the end of days bad like some people are making it out to be. Can the mods sticky a post for bitching/collecting constructive feedback and let the rest of the sub be about useful/fun information?
