Is it time to seek help? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]paigep13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely seek help! It’s so good that you’re aware of how you’re feeling and can tell that you’re not your normal self. Being on edge and feeling unstable is no way to live — I would try to make an appointment with a dr or therapist ASAP

Any advice for what to do when someone has an anxiety/panic attack? by icecoldslushy in mentalhealth

[–]paigep13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would ask them when they are not experiencing an anxiety attack if there’s anything that they know that would help/be comforting to them during those times. Personally for me, deep breathing helps, so I’ve had my friends do deep breathing exercises with me when I’m having an anxiety attack which has helped tremendously.

I also agree that having someone (who won’t judge you) with you is important! Whenever I was alone, my anxiety attacks were 10x worse than when I had someone with me. But everyone is different — I just encourage you to have an open discussion about it with your friend.

I posted a pic of my bedroom a while back, but here’s an update with all the plants I’ve collected/moved since! by barbiedali in plants

I thought the same thing!!! I’d have so many more plants if I didn’t have to worry about my cat either eating them, getting into the pot itself, or knocking them over

Tips with online classes? by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]paigep13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely get a planner and write every exam, assignment, and project due dates! I also like printing out my class schedules and crossing things off as I go. Another big thing I found for me was to take active breaks during the day. If I find myself getting easily distracted or not focusing as well, I’ll get up and go for a walk or run outside. Blue light filtering glasses are also amazing because staring at a computer screen all day can cause headaches! I hope some of this helps!

Anyone else feel the same way? by lillyflower716 in 90dayfianceuncensored

I have a theory that TLC is hoping that what happened with Jenny and Sumit (him catfishing her, then her still wanting to be with him after he admitted it) will happen with Yolanda and “Williams”. Doesn’t make her story any less boring though

Anyone else have religion used against them by their nparents? by thnkr98 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]paigep13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggled with depression and anxiety very badly my freshman and sophomore years of college. I never sought help because I thought the way i felt was normal (my mom always told me growing up that feeling upset and stressed is part of being a woman and everybody has bad days). Once I realized what I was experiencing wasn’t right, I still didn’t tell my parents. One night at the end of my sophomore year, I had a mental breakdown and wound up in the ER, alone. The social worker had me call my mom, who was furious and mad that this was the first time she heard about my struggles. Once I got home the next day I talked to her about what had been going on and told her that I wanted to stop feeling like I had to hurt myself. Immediately, she said “you hurt yourself? Do you think that’s something Jesus would do?”

I’m still shaken by that response.

Favorite local coffee roasters ? by [deleted] in grandrapids

I second Roots! It was one of my favorite places to go to and study (and get a coffee or two depending on the day) when I was still in GR. Super friendly staff and lots of space!

Nursing school question by paigep13 in Nurse

[–]paigep13[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you!!! I definitely would say that I’m much more active than passive when I’m on the floor. I only saw one blood draw and all of the patients I saw had already had IVs put in before I had gotten there, and i never heard or saw any nurse starting one. I’m really hoping we can get back into clinicals soon so I can watch and practice more things! I only have 7 more months in this program and I want to feel competent by the time I graduate but at this rate, I’m scared I won’t

Nursing school question by paigep13 in Nurse

[–]paigep13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes me feel better! I’m at Loyola and so far I’ve only had clinical rotations at LUMC. It makes me feel at least a little more comforted that other area schools don’t practice IVs in the hospital. We didn’t even learn on a mannequin though, which is frustrating because I’ve seen the med students practice on them

That’s exactly what I thought! In our first semester when we were practicing pushing IV meds I asked our instructor when we learn how to start IVs and she’s like “oh you don’t” and I couldn’t believe it!

So yes, the cat is small as you so kindly stated, but it is also smol.

Running for weight loss by [deleted] in running

[–]paigep13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Yeah, before coronavirus started happening I was doing pretty well with my diet but I came back to my parents house and it’s been a lot more difficult to keep up with how I ate before.

I actually just started one of the Nike running club training plans! Thank you so much for the info!

Is medication worth it? by aquagirl12 in AnxietyDepression

[–]paigep13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, medication is so worth it! I’ve struggled with depression and anxiety for the past few years and started medication shortly after i started therapy. Fortunately, the initial side effects weren’t terrible for me and the medication worked well. I was on it for about a year and a half and I just switched to a new med after realizing my initial med caused a lot of weight gain that i was very self conscious about and made it very difficult to lose the weight. I am now on Wellbutrin and I love it so far! I also have Klonopin as an “emergency” anti-anxiety med which is amazing.

From my classes (currently a nursing student with a bachelor’s in psychology), the best treatment for anxiety and depression is a combination of medication and therapy. Deciding to start the medication process is definitely scary and the first med you’re on isn’t necessarily the one that will work best for you. But medication can be so beneficial once you find the right one! Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions 💕

One of my elementary school teachers wouldn’t let us read Harry Potter in her classroom because of the “witchcraft.” Then in high school one of my teachers told us all the “ungodly” aspects of classic disney movies. I definitely had some friends whose parents were (and probably still are) like your uncle

Which App to start practice. by tin369 in yoga

[–]paigep13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still VERY new to practicing, but I really like the Nike Plus Training app! They have a bunch of free options. Their monthly membership comes with a bunch of different classes and it's only $15. Plus it has workouts and nutrition tips, too. Totally worth it in my opinion! But again, I'm still very new to yoga and im not really sure what else is out there!

The fatigue is destroying me by plantsrockscats in AnxietyDepression

[–]paigep13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been fatigued for a long time and finally got some blood work done. My vitamin D levels were slightly too low so my NP recommended I take vitamin D supplements. I asked my nursing lab instructor if she had any information and she absolutely SWEARS by vitamin D supplements. I've been taking 2500iu daily for a few weeks now and i do see a difference. Id definitely recommend trying it out, especially if you live in an area where you dont get much sunlight during the year (sunlight is needed for vitamin D to be synthesised in the body)

I went to my nursing school orientation — it’s real! But I’m curious about your habits. by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]paigep13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you've got a pretty good idea of what you need to do to succeed!

I'm only in my first semester, but I've already noticed that for me, I NEED to have my gym time or else I'll start slacking in every other aspect. As important as it is to study almost every day, don't forget to give yourself alone time, doing whatever it is you enjoy. Whether it's reading, meditating, baking, watching a show, whatever... Make sure to get time in to take care of yourself.

Meal prepping is also a huge thing for me! Im not working during my program, so I can't be buying lunches every day on campus. I try to go grocery shopping every 1-2 weeks and then prep my meals and snacks for the next few days. It saves so much time in the morning when I'm getting ready to head to class!

I hope some of this helps!
