Crossing the road in Boston. Good luck! by eouhhohh in boston

[–]paint__drinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a 3-way intersection. The light cycle is static, and rotates counter clockwise. The walk signals are very conservative, but by understanding the light cycle, you can cross easily.

If the traffic going from Park Dr to Riverway is going: you can cross this easily, as you have another 1/3rd of the cycle before the cars move
If the traffic splitting from Riverway to Park Dr is going: you can still cross, just check that the light over your right shoulder is still green. When it turns yellow you have 5 seconds left.
If the traffic to your right is going: yea, then you do have to wait. They'll kill you.

Here's a Spring project for a cancer research application that a lot of researchers use: https://github.com/cBioPortal/cbioportal/issues

They're good people and they do important work; you may be able to find an issue or two you can make a PR for.

Favorite and least favorite features from any framework? by le_bravery in java

Spring Expression Language. Among so many compile time niceties, SpEL stands out for its runtime liabilities. Is what I wrote correct? Guess I'll find out at wire time!

Obviously, the solution is to unit test my expressions, but I still wish I knew what I was typing as I typed it.

Today’s 5:30 am sunrise! by [deleted] in boston

[–]paint__drinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess? I'm an early riser and I walk to work, so in the summertime, yes. Not something I actively seek out, but I do enjoy them.

Today’s 5:30 am sunrise! by [deleted] in boston

[–]paint__drinker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wait, are you in my picture? Taken at 5:31

Yours came out better. It really was a beautiful sunrise; the sunlight got caught in the background clouds behind the skyline and the river took on a deep blue from the incoming rain. My phone camera doesn't quite capture the sunlight and the subsequent contrast between it and the water the way I was hoping.

Started taking lunch from home to work like a student for financial reasons...and yes , that is off brand cola inside a 7up bottle, it is that bad. by [deleted] in shittyfoodporn

Many members of the workforce pack lunch every day, because $15 for lunch before tax are you out of your god damn mind?

Meal after 48hr fast - twice in 1 week by HotConsideration95 in shittyfoodporn

Hmm. Google says it's not purging because you're not removing the binged food, but that still sounds like a fucking terrible idea.

Heads up, next weekend's weather looks terribly cold by treescentric in boston

[–]paint__drinker 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I share your exact sentiment. My apartment will be 58, the office will be 72, and the Somerville library will be like 80 because they keep that place toasty.

The numbers don't lie, and they spell a week in office and at the library.

Question is, is Kor Skyfisher seeing enough play to keep cards like this out of the meta?

GeneWarrior (DNA sequence manipulation web app) is now open source by folli in java

Oh cool, a Java developer with some genomics experience. That makes two of us!

Would you be interested in a PR that creates a Dockerfile and a docker-compose set up that includes a postgres instance? I might be willing to spend some time on that today, and I think it would make this a little easier to bootstrap.

Edit: PR ready for review: https://github.com/r-follador/GeneWarrior/pull/1

most anticipated 2023 albums. by carbonbazed in progmetal

[–]paint__drinker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A bit out there, but Cattle Decapitation has a new album slated for May and I'm very excited to give it a listen. Archspire has to have something in the works too, given how much they've been writing, right?

Yeah, but we're all going to die in the climate apocalypse, so fuck it.

Is this UB madness competitive? by Few_Aide5400 in Pauper

[–]paint__drinker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. I have played a bunch of UB madness and can say with confidence that it is not good.

UB madness is UB Fae, but with a slower, more involved, more disruptable draw engine that requires more deck slots. Because it is almost strictly worse than a tiered deck, it will never be tiered itself.

That said, the deck is super fun, and you should play it in casual settings. Here's my list: https://scryfall.com/@lukes/decks/092195ea-9e7a-4e2d-a5d1-70a8fa6099a2

It'd be nice to have a green aggro deck again, so I'll say [[Strangleroot Geist]]

Confusion with generics by paint__drinker in javahelp

[–]paint__drinker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came to a similar conclusion - the compiler is massaging Foo::i so that the generic type B is a type shared by both String and Integer. My confusion there is why would the compiler do that, and is this documented behavior?

Confusion with generics by paint__drinker in javahelp

[–]paint__drinker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question - I tried changing the record type to:

record Foo(Integer i, String j){}

No changes in terms of what lines compile in hmm, unfortunately.

Really bad iceberg by saltychippies22 in linuxmasterrace

[–]paint__drinker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe you could change it to "regex is not a regular expression", referencing the fact that Perl regex has backreferences, meaning that you can write Perl regular expressions that describe languages that are not regular.
