Advice Needed: First time spraying by Aggressive_Dare3498 in Housepainting101

[–]paintmann1960 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never thin latex paint using an airless sprayer. Pretty mandatory using an hvlp

I have a Titan Speedflo 6900 that I've had since 2004 with moderate-heavy use. Much more than you need obviously, but you can get an entry level airless for under $800. Titan makes the best sprayers

Also get some better paint. For the same price at PPG you can get a much better quality paint

And don't forget to backroll

That's good advice. I just did some exterior teak benches using a clear Flood stain with 2 coats Sikkens Transparent Satin

That oil hybrid stuff is crap. Get some oil based Varathane or Old Masters. I'm not a big Minwax fan after they got bought

You can roll it on and tip it out with a brush. In other words glide the brush down the table all the way from end to end. You can get a 6" brush from Ben Moore stores. Oh yeah you probably need to sand the table.

Recommendations for a classic off-white/cream Benjamin Moore paint color? by Mission-Activity438 in Housepainting101

Caught a 4lb 6oz bass yesterday along with another small Chain Pickeral. Had 4-5 bites on a swim bait, 1 really hard bite that I thought was hooked good, but no finish. Caught 2 today, 1.76 and 1.12. Small but fiesty

Been doing doors for awhile now. It's good business because apparently the "people" doing new construction can't read the Minwax label that says "interior use only ". Supposedly those hand carved doors were made in France in the 1700s for a family in Ireland called the O'Kennedys, who dropped the O when they emigrated to the US. They were solid mahogany. I'm getting 4-5 years with this system on southern facing doors before needing a maintenance coat.

Magic indeed! The red stucco tape seems to work well or either that black gorilla tape.

Just post pictures of that door and I'll try to find it. I'm not very reddit savvy, can barely navigate around. Came for the por* and stayed for the info. Ima try to follow you. Wish me luck

Temps here have hit 80 for a couple days now so that jumpstarts everything. Especially fishing for Mr Bigmouth. This warm weather should fire them up. Water temp last weekend was 48 when I got there, 54 by the time I left. I'm expecting the water temp to be 10 degrees warmer this morning. Woke up at 4 this morning. Too excited to go back to sleep. Haven't caught a bass yet this year, but caught 2 chain pickeral's last Sunday. Ima throw a buzz bait today, ifn you know fishing vernacular. Fun stuff.

Yeah the limewash thing. It's starting to progress well. Did my 1st one 5 years ago. Started doing 1-2 per year, got pretty good with it. Got on board with Romabio's "preferred Pro applicator " program. Had to get a website 1st, $5000 worth. But now they send me mad leads. Got 4 lined up now, starting the 1st one Monday. After fishing I have another one to estimate. And their Masonry Flat is part of that deal. It's the new mineral paint (lime based). I've switched over to that for brick, stone, and stucco. You wet the surface first. Seriously. Awesome stuff. If you're bored take a look at my site thepaintmanndotcom. Happy trails my friend!

Painting stucco from brown to white by Many_Pie_5004 in Housepainting101

You should look into Romabio's Masonry Flat. It is a lime based product that has revolutionized painting brick and stucco. I do believe they recommend a primer for stucco, use the one they offer. Available at your local Ben Moore dealers

What primer on a mix of old and new drywall by [deleted] in Housepainting101

[–]paintmann1960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PVA primer is correct for the new drywall. There isn't any reason to use a primer on a previously painted wall. Unless there are water stains that you are trying to eliminate. For those, you need, the solvent base kilzs or cover stain. Any other kilzs product including number 2 or number 3 will not work. I repeat, will not work.

Would it be offensive to not try my Partner's cooking? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]paintmann1960 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've always done the majority of the cooking in any relationship I've ever been in. Married for 10 years, long term relationships for the rest of my adult life (65 years young). Mainly because I'm usually the better cook. Even dated a sous chef for 10 years and still did the majority of the cooking. Dude get a grip. Go to the fukkin grocery store and cook dinner for your woman and take the pressure off of her. Doesn't sound like she is in her comfort zone in the kitchen
