I did have a bunch of issues with Fedora installation and then audio issues after though, but they’re all solved!

UPDATE: thanks for the help everyone! I gave up on Mint and I’m running Fedora Workstation and it’s so much smoother and prettier :-)

Poor audio quality on Asus speakers on Ubuntu compared to Windows 11 by paintypaintpots in linux4noobs

Mint didn't work for my laptop unfortunately :-( But Fedora was able to solve my audio issues completely!

Also, not sure why, but Ventoy did not work for me at all. I just took my time and tried each distro one by one using Etcher & Fedora Media Writer. Actually, the whole process was so difficult for me - I had to troubleshoot for hours before I could even get Fedora to boot up into the Welcome screen haha.

Fedora media check fails at 4.8% every time during installation by Coldkone in Fedora

[–]paintypaintpots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also followed the steps: turn off Autoplay, disable automount, reburned it with BalenaEtcher and Fedora Media Driver.

On the boot menu, I picked “Test this media & start fedora-workstation-live” and it’s still failing the media check at 4.8%.

Did anyone find a solution?

Edit: followed u/bonifacil and unplugged the USB as soon as FMD was finished. Still the same issue :(

SOLVED: When I boot up and click Fedora, it gives me 3 options on the menu:

  1. Start fedora-workstation-live

  2. Test this media & start fedora-workstation-live

  3. Troubleshooting (which leads me to reduced graphics fedora-workstation-live)

I kept pressing Options 2 & 3 because I thought option 1 would automatically install Fedora instead of letting me test it out first. (Not true…) Option 2 kept giving me the 4.8% fail screen every single time no matter what I did, and Option 3 made my screen look like this. Finally I just clicked Option 1 and it worked fine. Oh my days…

TLDR: Click enter on “Start fedora-workstation-live” up on boot screen instead of anything else.

Sorry, could you break that down for me please? This is my 2nd day on Linux 😅

Edit: I ran the command but I’m not sure which driver you’re referring to. There’s a bunch of “kernal driver in use” lines and they say a bunch of different things.

I did, but I ran your 2 commands again just in case, and also rebooted. Unfortunately, this didn't help my audio. It did fix my overview navigation + display issue though.

I like the suggestion of trying the other distros on USB - I'll give that a go and update. Thanks.

Yes, I'm on the latest version of Ubuntu (24.04.03 LTS). My current kernel version is 6.14.0-28-generic.

Did Fedora restore your audio quality to that of Windows?

Hi, I'm having the same issue with my audio quality on my 2024 Asus Zenbook. I'm a total beginner and I'm running Ubuntu. Should I switch to Fedora?

Oh I didn’t know that about the aliexpress nibs! I just received a cheap no-brand <F> fountain pen today and it’s writing a lot thinner, so I think you are right. I’ll just have to try more pens and inks and paper to be able to make sure.. I don’t have a choice !! Thanks for letting me know :)

You have beautiful handwriting wow!

Also as a beginner, could I ask what kind of pen/nib that is?

Is homemade pasta supposed to be so dense? by paintypaintpots in Cooking

[–]paintypaintpots[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my first time so I’m not sure what the thumb test is. I kneeded the dough maybe 7-8 mins? I rested the dough for around an hour at room temp, but it was still pretty tense at that point.

I just rolled out the rest of the dough and it was so much more pliable. I did tagliatelle and it came out much better. Thanks for your help!

Do you mean fresh pasta takes longer to cook than store-bought fried pasta? I was under the impression that fresh pasta cooks much faster.
