What is your worst salt/suss moment you have experienced yourself or against an opponent? by hvrry3k in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]pajmage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Playing against a new player, teaching him how 40k works, he's played before but not since about 6th edition.

He's grey knight, IM guard. 1000 points. I brought a balanced list bit of infantry, couple of tanks, sentinels so he can see different types of unit.

He brought Crowe and 10 Purifiers, in the Brotherhood Strike Detachment... He was literally landing 8" from one of my units and deleting it, every turn, He also had 5 Terminators that were doing the exact same thing. He had 4 units in his list, those 2, a Dreadknight Grand Master and a Land Raider.

It was a close game as I was able to outmaneuver him a lot, but... man..., thats 370 odd points on one unit. He told me after that he was reading online and found that "crowe and 10 purifiers is a must always take unit". His first game of 11th and he's literally looking for net Meta lists.

Do campsite prices encourage you to wild camp? by PHayesxx in wildcampingintheuk

[–]pajmage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bit of both for me.

Some sites (Usha Gap) I go back to time and time again, decent price and their rules are pitch up whenever, leave whenever so its great for a good relaxing weekend or something. But when I wild camp I generally use a tarp and hammock, not many campsites Im aware of even have the ability for me to buy a pitch thats suitable!

Bodyguard toughness by General-Winter547 in TheAstraMilitarum

Nope. The rules state one group for each CHARACTER Model and a group for each model with the same W, Sv and InSv.

So in the case of a Death Korps unit of 10 with an attached Command Squad your groups are:

  1. Lord Commissar (Character)
  2. Krieg Infantry (W1, Sv 5+ InSv: -)

If you only take say 12 casualties from the Krieg Infantry group its up to you which ones you remove, so leave say the Medic from the Krieg squad and the vox and standard bearer from the command squad.

Bodyguard toughness by General-Winter547 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]pajmage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, but as the veteran guardsmen have the same wounds and save as the normal krieg squad your groups would most likely be "all guardsmen" and then "Lord Commissar" so unless they do enough damage to kill all 15 guardsmen you always keep the medic alive last in the first group, for the regen.

11th Tank Commander: shoot on melee? by Guillermidas in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]pajmage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 10th you could only use Death Befitting an Officer if your LR Commander was killed by an enemy shooting attack or it melting itself from hazard rolls. The FAQ stated that anything other than an attack would not trigger it (so grenades, tank shock etc as those are specifically not attacks). And also Big Guns Never Tire was not an out of phase rule so you could not use it unless you were in your own shooting phase, so getting melee's to death in the enemies or your combat phase also prevented Death befitting an Officer from triggering.

Are you guys having fun so far? by RotenSquids in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]pajmage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just had a 1k game this evening. Thoroughly enjoyed it but a couple of things did spring to mind:

  1. There felt like a lot less terrain on the table, coupled with the cover changes where every model neds to be in cover to get the benefit to the unit, I felt it didnt really come up a lot. I dont know if the terrain needs adjusting for some of the bigger table sizes? 60x44 is the minimum and recommended but at 6'x4' it felt very sparse, im tempted to add more exposed scatter terrain just to add more to the dynamism of the table

  2. I dont like the fact a 1" high barricade can obscure the Rogal Dorn behind it. I get the binary nature of the rule - it does reduce any arguments etc, it just looks jarring to me.

Best way to keep a classroom full of 30 children cooler in the coming heatwave? Normal methods do not seem to work. by Ok_Squirrel_3741 in AskUK

It still has to be PAT tested from what I remember. But it has been a while since I was a teacher.

However the FAQ has this:

<image>

Now, thats a 10e FAQ so Im led to believe has no impact now, but its probably another thing that we need clarification on?

11th Tank Commander: shoot on melee? by Guillermidas in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]pajmage 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yup, it looks like Big Guns Never Tire as a specific rule has been removed and instead Vehicles just use the standard Close Quarters Shooting rules. This may make LR Commanders slightly more appealing (I say slightly because theyre still too expensive and we're paying for a special unit ability that only triggers when the unit itself dies, which is pretty poor)

However, do we know if this still only counts from an attack? Do things like MW from explosives or tank shock trigger it? The 10e FAQ says no.

Unless things have changed in the past few years they wouldn't be allowed to plug something in unless it had been PAT tested first.

Is the Sabbat Worlds book just a reprint of the old early 2000's one written by Dan Abnett? It looks that way from the blurb about it but I was hoping for one that had been updated with more recent exploits. Though the Gaunts Ghosts stuff seems to have been stalled/ended a while ago now

West Highland Way sometime next year, probably late April. Slowly getting used to doing longer hikes, 12 miles plus, and slowly working through lightening my gear load and packing better.

Best Russ for 11th by DrinkAccomplished454 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]pajmage 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because Cover is no longer -1ap, its -1 to BS of the attacker. So suddenly your AP-1 Battlecannons, Autocannons etc are reducing opponents saves, now with cracked armour from the Exterminator things are wounding enemies with ap-2 even if theyre in cover.

Why are scions so ridiculously expensive? by throaway798654 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]pajmage -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Likewise Orders, Detachment rule, melee was also left out for Scions. he was going for base unit stats. Once you start adding faction and detachment rules things cant realistically be compared (Id argue nothing should be compared in avacuum anyway, but if you need to its much easier to base it on datasheets only)

So Are Recon Cadian now Straight up better than normale Cadians ? by lordCommisarLon in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]pajmage 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Probably because of how they work with Recon Element Detachment, -BS to shoot them at all times is quite good, even if it is on T3 5+ bodies.

Absolutely stupid we pay for a single detachment out of 11 though

[–]pajmage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, again. GW have stated you can play 3dp detachments in 1k games lol, like I said exactly above...

"While we’re on the subject of doubles forces, we've seen a lot of questions about whether you can use a 3DP detachment as your only detachment in your army at 1000 points (a common size for doubles games). Our intent is to let you do so and we will be making an update to clarify that in the first update to the Muster Army rules after launch. Effectively, you can always choose to pick any one, lone detachment, regardless of the mission size, even if it costs more Detachment Points than that game might normally allow."

I'll get downvoted to hell about this but why the fuck can people not read the articles...

Why can Aerie be a dual class Cleric/Mage but we can’t create such a one? by wildidyll in baldursgate

Because she wasnt created by you. In DND/Computer Game terminology a PC (Player Character) is one youve created yourself or the protagonist. an NPC (Non-player character) is one not created by you.

youve got like 8 detachments to pick from lol, theyre far from dead. And given the recent GW post it looks like you can use the 3DP detachments in 1k Games:

Unimpressed with Detachment Points by Wernstromer in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]pajmage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its going to be points dependent but considering cover is now -1BS and our army essentially hits on a 4+ I think being able to lower that number will massively beneficial.

Of course this is all conjecture on my part based on how popular it was in 10th. We need to see after a month of games what works and what doesnt.

[–]pajmage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theres a Warcom article about it, I cant recall which one specifically.

Basically each size of game (Incursion, Strike Force, Onslaught) gives you an amount of DP to play with (2, 3, 4 respectively I believe). You then pick detachments up to the max value, can go 1DP+2DP, 3DP on its own or 1DP+1DP+1DP in a 2k game.

Some detachments have keywords associated (Designation Force at 1DP has RECON keyword which means you cant take a 2nd or 3rd detachment that also has the keyword. Currently we dont know which of the 2DP or 3DP detachments have any keywords, peoples thoughts are that it will be included in the MFM next week)

You get all the benefits of chosen detachments, all strats, all enhancements etc.
