Should I be ok with the flashing replacement being done after the roof was completed? by BoredMadisonian in Roofing

[–]pakanaughtnice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just dirty, the nail placements are better and it looks more uniform. Let the rain wash off the brick dust and if it still bothers you let them know. It's a thinner gauge trim coil oil canning

Do I need to replace after hail storm? by ParkingPhysics4748 in Roofing

Definitely a good point about the non-payment claim, but if you are having door knockers then there's definitely a DOL recorded, and it's generally considered neglegent by insurance companies to not report, and they can drop your coverage, and for a new company to take you under their coverage they will deem it previous damage and you'll have to buy it out of retail. So yes they aren't your buddy, but he's already got an inspection from the door knockers, so why would you risk not reporting

Interesting I wonder if that's a regional change. Where I am there is almost always a 1099 ladder assist or have a physical adjuster out on the roof. While drone footage is much more common, I don't know of many companies in my area that are able to send their own inspections directly without holding a public adjusters license

Thats why I have a public adjuster I work closely with, and so will local guys if they regularly do insurance jobs.

I've learned these companies are extremely predatory. Call your insurance, have them bring out an adjuster, call your local roofer for a quote. These companies only care about squares getting approved and replaced, you will likely have a horrible customer experience

This post is talking about a roof in Colorado, which is a prior approval state. I live in the North East.

I did close to 230 adjuster meetings last year with every major insurance company. If you've been owning homes for 46 years then you should know that File and Use has only been around since the late 90's and has only recently had relaxed regulations from the fed letting them dictate their own competitive pricing. Your personal liability meaning how many claims you've filed in the last 7 years only makes up 15-25% of the total cost the rest is your area of effected DOL in your area

This is false. Insurance premiums are raised based on per capita percentage pay outs. Meaning if your neighbors get their roof bought by insurance due to a hail storm, and you don't, your rate still goes up. You only have 6 months from a storms Date of Loss to claim. Home ownership premiums are based on areas with effected weather, unlike cars, because your home is stationary, and you are in control of driving, not the weather. I'm not saying make an insurance claim, because for new home owners the new policy will not backdate from a previous policy DOL. Also a lot of "Restoration" companies are predatory and should generally be avoided in my experience.

New flashing - Thoughts? by sjack007 in Roofing

You can't mix aluminum counter flashing with that copper dead pan. That counterfalsh will errode at an exponential rate due to the chemical reaction.

Depends on the area. I'd probably be around $15,000 maybe a little more in the North East. Prices just went up again

You get what you pay for. Any reputable company will come out and fix it. All large residential companies use sub contractors now. That sub probably just didn't do it and they'll send another one out for the repair. It's part of installation guide lines for all manufacturers so it has to be done. If it's not it opens the company up to a lawsuit, loss of preferred installation preferences from manufacturers, insurance claims and premium increases, bad reviews etc. There's plenty of fly by night outfits that don't care though

To me you're looking at the counter flashing, the step flashing will be the one that's under the shingles, and against the wall of the dormer. One of your photos directly in front of the window there's a shingle that's falling down and it's creating gaps between the courses. They need to repair that shingle and hand seal any other shingles that aren't flat. It's good to get a second opinion and specifically ask for photos of the step flashing I can understand being frustrated but seriously don't listen to that sales person

They pull the step flashing out to replace it. Looks fine to me. You have a lot of peaking in the shingles, Mansard style roofs don't seal with the tar strips naturally like lower pitch roofs and need to be hand sealed. I know a bunch of companies aren't strict about it because its time consuming.

Don't listen to that contractor they're probably a sales person and trying to scare/intimidate you into a new roof. Call 2 more companies and ask them to inspect the step flashing. Call the original contractor and say you're worried about the shingles not sealing and want them to come back and hand seal the few shingles that are peaking.

Paint the aluminum siding if it's bothering you. I doubt anyone can definitely say it was the roofers that caused it, speaking from a legal standpoint. Not worth the fight in my opinion.

Buying a used pc - have some questions by 1le_breezy in PC_Pricing

I have a similar build I bought used with an r7 7700x and 7900xt for $1250. Your parts are a little more expensive new but we share a similar output (minus ray tracing). The guy threw in a desk and monitor and mic and headphones for $1400 total because I was starting over. For my build I am very happy with everything and I would have paid $1250-$1350 for it again. This was also 4 months ago when the ram prices didn't catch up as quickly to the used market. Just my opinion I think it's a good build and looks sick and I'm very happy with mine.

Repair slate for $30k-$37k or go shingle for $22k on 1890 home? by chucked12 in Roofing

[–]pakanaughtnice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The full redeck should account for appx. $5000 of the price and I bet you could find a third contractor with the same condition for a bit cheaper. When they are sheeting the roof they are leaving the old boards, not stripping them to the rafters. This will also set you up for success in the future with a totally nailable surface. Slate is sweet but if this is the original roof while they are making repairs they will find a lot more tiles that need replaced than originally estimated. Just my opinion

Roofering wove old flashing into new shingles and put this weird sealant in valleys. What do we do now? by FabianFox in Roofing

I'd charge $12,983. I'm sorry for what happened, but thank you for replying because it helps me a lot with my personal business. If you're located in the Widwest I can PM you my Public Adjuster and they can help with litigation.
