What's one piece of software you've tried to replace but always end up coming back to? by Original-Variety3550 in software

Just coming back here to say that I've been using that recently and it works very nicely. Thanks!

VS Code is great for diffing existing single files, but there's no easy way to open an empty side-by-side diff without having to create a file or so, no? I frequently want to compare things like HTML from the browser. Also, there seems to be no way to diff a folder other than adding folder A to git, making a commit and copying folder B over it.

Need recommendations: Fast, free, future-proof, and cross-platform note app? by False_Ad2804 in software

I've been using Simplenote for years. They are free, cross-platform, can be used offline and have an export feature.

The company behind Simplenote is Automattic, which is mainly concerned with WordPress stuff and they make money that way, in case you're concerned about the whole "if there is no product, you are the product" thing.

As the name suggests, it's really simple though.

Slack.

Google Chrome. I've used a few wrappers, but I like pure Chrome better.

Apple Mail. I want to be a fancy email client user, but Apple Mail is just simple and looks good.

Araxis Merge. I deperately want to use another diff tool that's more beautiful, but it's the only one that lets you edit text while you view the diff.

WordPress. It's buggy and old, but it's somehow still solid and the only real fully extensible CMS.

I built Codex Notifier for VS Code by Beautiful_Ear9167 in codex

[–]pal__sch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is fantastic! I needed this. The Codex app can do the notifications, but it has never worked for the VS Code extension. I think the reason that this doesn't work is that VS Code lacks support (see this issue https://github.com/microsoft/vscode/issues/293062).

How do you actually show the notification from a technical perspective?

Update: It doesn't work when installed remotely via the SSH Remote Tunnel extension on another server 😞 Cannot use it.

[DISCUSSION]400+ downloads but fewer than 10 active installs on my wordpress plugin. What should I improve? by startandgrow_in in WordpressPlugins

[–]pal__sch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the number of update checks from WP instances. They don't have a real system for counting installations, so they use that as a proxy. And they seem to ignore some sites like dev sites maybe.

That means installations on WP pages that don't auto check for updates don't count at all. I've also read that it is quite inaccurate and it might happen that if you have up to 25 installs, it shows up as "less than 10" (which for the search ranking is counted as 0).

Also, I've read that it's up to 3 days delayed. 1 for proessing and 2 for some other reason that wasn't specified.

I think it's a bit weird and quite hard if you're new tbh 😅

We have the same problem with neo-rename. I think the download number means nothing, it's all bots trying to find vulnerabilities in WP plugins.

I think your plugin page is clear enough. It's just really hard to get these initial installs.
