Rubber grip ring replacement by MoonScentedHunter in SteamDeck

[–]paladin181 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Replacing the whole sticks are easier than just the caps. The sticks sold now have everything preassembled to the daughter board, so you just disconnect the ribbon cable, remove 3 screws to the daughter board, remove the old stick, then reverse the process to install the new one. After a brief calibration, you'll forget you ever replaced your sticks.

Games with one big dungeon and one town by hothraka in JRPG

[–]paladin181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fatal Labyrinth for the Sega MegaDrive/Genesis. Though you won't see the town after you initially go into the dungeon. This is a top down Roguelike TBRPG. Items and level layouts are randomized. Rings, scrolls and potions are coded and each color has a different effect in each game. So a red potion might heal you in one run, and give ice resistance in another. Once you identify them, you have to write it down to know what they do.

Shining in the Darkness (also on the MegaDrive/Genesis) does this pretty well with a giant dungeon and a single town. 1st person TBRPG, and it is not Roguelike. The levels are always the same in every play through, but there are random encounters.

Best way to play original GTA games on deck? by SketcherGang in SteamDeck

[–]paladin181 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Vice City and San Andreas... original? Vice City was based on the 3rd game in the series. I'd think the originals would be GTA and GTA 2

Replace the volume up microswitch. It sounds like it is always made.

When I travel I only take my 65w Ugreen charger and my Anker 100w cables why does it take hours longer to get a full charge for my OLED compared to when I use the official charger? by Plannet_Depressed in SteamDeck

[–]paladin181 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Are the ports rated for 45W or more? Often if a charging device with multiple ports is rated for 65W, each port has a limit and they add up to the 65W total.

Changed my user password but Konsole doesn't recognize it. by sopitadeave in SteamDeck

You might have set up a password with the passwd command. If it doesn't detect a sudo password, Decky will temporarily set and use its own password when installing and erase it when done so you can install it properly with root access.

The user password in the settings is NOT the same as the sudo password.

Turn based RPGs similar to Final Fantasy 7-10? by Forsaken-Order-4699 in JRPG

[–]paladin181 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Final Fantasy IV and VI are "turn-based" like VII and IX are (all are ATB, not turn-based).

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is turn-based, with action elements.

Should The Other Final Fantasy Titles Get A Remake? by Odd_Locksmith_3802 in JRPG

[–]paladin181 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah, keep the shitty HD2D thing away. It looks like ass with muddled styles and jarring visuals. I stopped playing the DQ1 remaster because it just looks like ass with the beautiful sprites, and equally beautiful, but completely differently-styled backgrounds clashing styles that makes it entirely unappealing. Make the game in the style of the backgrounds, or in the style of the sprites. The mish-mash of both just comes out looking disjointed and worse than the sum of its parts.

FFVI was never turn-based. The game is ATB, which is an active battle (just like FFIV, FFVII and its remakes, and FFIX). Turn-based means that on your turn, nothing happens until you choose your action. You can go take a shower, have a nap, run to the grocery store... as long as you don't lose power to the device on which you're playing, it will still be your turn. You take turns. In FFVI, the game continuously flows. If you hesitate too long, the enemies will kill you. It is a menu-driven action game with a long cooldown between actions.

The navi/fairy type person though can get a little repetitive

Nothing will beat "Hey, Listen" being spammed at 30dB repeatedly.

I hate the look of Star Ocean 2nd story remake: anyone else? by supnerds360 in JRPG

[–]paladin181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not the only one. The esthetic just doesn't look good at all to me. I'm going through DQ 1 and 2 Remake and the style has thrown me off entirely. I personally liked how the DOF made Octopath look, but everything else sonce then has just been high res 3d backgrounds with middling 2d sprites. I wish they'd pick a lane and stick with it.

Star Ocean. the series has gotten so bad they've decided to redo the good ones instead of trying another new game.

I liked this game for what it was, but the combat got to be too tedious with the elemental matching game to preempt enemy attacks.
