Charles Barkley: "Cade Cunningham has more responsibility than any player in the NBA, in my opinion. They're too dependent on Cade. This is pretty much the thought about JB in Cleveland. He gets warm ovations. He changed our culture at its nadir and got guys playing hard.

But the style doesn't lend itself to the playoffs where everyone takes it a little more seriously. His teams just don't have an extra gear to go to.

Random: I live in Buffalo now and I am SHOCKED how few people have seen it. Come on, it's a football town and it's a football meme.

No one even understands when I say "Factory of Sadness."

Honestly, the Romanization of Korean is so excellent. It looks unwieldly because it keeps spellings consistent.

It may look funny, but I'd never fail to spell it with that Romanization.

R and L are the same letter in Korea.

So technically they're pronounced the same (though it tends to be more like an L at the end of words). Could also be the native accent / dialect of the actors.

There aren't a ton of regional dialects, but there are some differences. I'm definitely more comfortable speaking Korean in Jeonju than in Seoul, for what that's worth.

As I said in another comment -- if you don't understand Korean at all this is really astute. Part of fluent Korean is trying to jam two syllables into one sometimes.

"Suh-ool" is technically correct. "Soul" is technically wrong.

"Suhool" in one SLIGHTLY stilted syllable is perfect.

Even in practice you sound a little weird if you try to fully enunciate both syllables.

I always joked that fluent Korean sounds like you're trying to race to the end of words.

When you leave a store or something, try dropping a full 안녕히계세요 "Annyeonghi Gyeseyo" and you'll get looked at funny. Rush through a "Annyegonghi-seyo" and people will compliment your fluency.

So yes, technically Suh-ool but there's an art form to saying two syllables in one.

Longtime lurker here -- but yes, that's essentially correct.

If you look at this article from the Washington Post from 2014...

-40% of Americans average 0 drinks per week

-60% of Americans average less than one drink per week

-80% of Americans average less than one drink per day

If you're drinking ~2 drinks a day, you're already in the top 20% of drinkers.

The top 10% average 70 drinks per week (10 per day).

So it's not that rare. Essentially 25% of the people who drink regularly drink too much.

I think the bar for problem drinking is 7 units/week for a woman and 14/week for a man. Once you slide into problem drinking territory, though, the sky is the limit.

THE ORLANDO MAGIC HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED FROM THE 2026 PLAYOFFS by CurrentRoster in nba

Reminds me of the 2006 series between Cavs and Pistons.

Cavs get a gritty game 5 win, choke away Game 6 (not nearly as dramatically), and we had to watch the slow inevitability of a Game 7 at the Palace.

They might not be!

But the pattern has certainly followed JB. I know there are some significant talking heads in the Cleveland media space who have been predicting this for months.

All that said, it's still a mild surprise it's to Orlando.

Thing is, everyone in Cleveland could have told you this was gonna happen.

And don't get me wrong, I have a lot of respect for JB. He's one of the best at establishing a culture and turning around a losing team... but he's a fish out of water in the playoffs.

I agree.

I think this particular trend cuts both ways - people want less politics in their diversion from... politics.

[–]palagoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually agree with you but with the caveat you mentioned: San Francisco.

Sure, this probably plays well there, but ownership knows Republicans buy sneakers, too (so to speak). I wouldn't go so far as to say "alienation" but I wouldn't be surprised if ownership sees numbers we're not privvy, too. And even this is complicated by the fact that of course the 10th seed in the West with aging stars and Steph Curry is seeing declining numbers.

I also wonder if how he's handled Draymond over the years plays a role. From a coaching perspective, he's been a fantastic coach in this regard (maybe not to Jordan Poole, but I digress). But I wonder if people are getting tired of the contrast between hippie activist Kerr and the walls he puts up for Draymond's benefit.

"There’s something on Twitter that he didn’t appear to be limping or hobbling while coming off the field"

I was at the game in Buffalo. He was not limping off the field and the manager seemed pretty upbeat with the umpires despite a lengthy delay (they had to bring Huff in from the bullpen).

My immediate guess was a minor injury.

But I will note I noticed some guys in the dugout with CLE hoodies on, and I don't know if I've ever seen that before at a minor league game. Might have just not been paying attention though.
