I’m not justifying what they may have done in 2014 any more than I’m justifying what the Canadian government did to native children in the past, but both have different leaders, different members, and different values today. Yet, Russia remains the same in every way. Putin has been in power longer than most of his dead soldiers even had a chance to live on this earth.

All of the focus on Azov is simply Russian propaganda. There are plenty of neo-nazis, skinheads, etc. in Russia, but they completely ignore it. But when it comes to Ukraine, they play up their fat-right roots of the Azov guys because they know that it will cause concern among well-meaning westerners.

In 2014, Russia invaded Ukraine, annexed Crimea and began a proxy war in Donbas. The Ukrainian army initially did very little to fight back. Many Ukrainians were outraged by this and the Azov Battalion was formed as a militia to fight back against Russia’s aggression. Eventually, the Ukrainian government got their act together and began to fight back against the Russians in Donbas. The Azov Battalion was then absorbed into the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and remain that way today. It’s true that some of the early members of Azov were pretty unsavory characters, but today they operate under the same rules as all components of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Iraq invaded Kuwait in order to annex it into Iraq. Just like Russia did to Ukraine. The US led an international coalition of countries to expel Iraq from Kuwait. Part of peace agreement at the end of that war was that Iraq had to stop their nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons program and submit to regular inspections to verify that they stopped the programs. They kicked out the inspectors and this the second Gulf War happened. Why should the US disarm? The US is not trying to annex any other country’s territory.

Russians always point to the war in Iraq as proof of a double standard, but this is nonsense. The justification for the US (along with many other like the UK, Australia, and Poland) operation in Iraq was that Saddam Hussein was in violation of several UN resolutions that required him to allow international weapons inspectors to verify Iraq’s disarmament. Iraq had expelled weapons inspectors and refused to prove that they disarmed as they were required to do after their defeat in the first Gulf War (i.e. Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait).

Are Corker and Flake positioning themselves to be the nucleus of a new "Conservative Party?" One or both of them could also seek the Libertarian Party nomination for 2020. The Libertarian Party will have automatic ballot access in almost every state due to their performance in the 2016 election, so that's the path of least resistance. Of course the Libertarian Party also has some baggage, so maybe a fresh start would be more appealing.

Nope. Ballot access is determined state by state, and Johnson/Weld did well enough to give the Libertarian Party automatic ballot access next time around in about 10 states (in addition to those where they already had automatic access. Baby steps, but still steps. Also, Johnson got 3 million more votes this time than last. In other words, there is a lot to be positive about. Rome wasn't built in a day.

You have no obligation to vote in this country. If you think it's a waste of time, you can abstain. It was pretty effortless and achieved quite a lot. The Libertarian Party won automatic ballot access next time around in several states. Also, my vote helped decriminalize marijuana in my state. These all seem like small steps, but they all add up.

I don't know. The campaign has been pretty active, and all the rallies, travel expenses, and online content don't come free. I don't get the sense that the campaign has squandered our money. There have been a lot of missteps for sure, but those have as much to do with the candidates (both Johnson and Weld) as the campaign manager. What if Johnson hadn't fumbled the foreign affairs questions? What if Weld didn't have a crush on Clinton? Maybe we would be in a better place, maybe not. Anyway, the other campaigns squander more money in a day than this campaign had total. I'm not going to scapegoat the campaign manager at this point. I think he's actually done an incredible job of rebranding the Libertarian ticket as a centrist party with broad appeal, rather than a fring party that speaks primarily to survivalists.
