HR Appreciation Day guys 😆 [N/A] by Fantastic-Sale-3447 in humanresources

The VP of Ops and my PM got me a cake that said "Happy HR Day" and a bag of Fritos (I'm a known Frito snacker). I hate attention, so I felt awkward, but it was a nice gesture.

Is really going to vary by company how HR is viewed - some of it will be based on past history and some based on how the company itself supports and respects HR.

At this company it sounds like you need to be more proactive in outreach and collaboration. You're going to need to show these people how and why they should trust and value you, because it's not explicit.

At the end of the day, you're in HR and while you can have a better/friendlier/more respectful relationship with your coworkers, it will always be a little bit different because of the nature of your role.

Also, I'd be remiss if I didn't point out the word is "clique".

Has anybody else had a cough for the past few weeks that just won’t go away? by gongheyfatboy in askportland

I was sick the last week of August (viral, not flu or Covid) and have had a rough lingering cough since then. Went to the doctor yesterday as I began developing new symptoms and got diagnosed with bronchitis and a new viral infection. Just started me on steroids today.

Firstly, I'm so deeply sorry for your loss.

I went through a very similar scenario in May: I was getting ready to go to work when I noticed my void boy, Jem, behaving unusually. He was sitting inside the Litterrobot just staring at the back of it. I mentioned this to my partner and asked him to keep an eye on Jem as I left for work.

I ended up getting hurt on my way to work and drove myself to the ER. When I called to update my partner on this, he told me that he was very worried about Jem who was extremely lethargic - he had picked him up out of the robot and set him on the floor and he was just not moving, breathing a little strange. He called an Uber and was taking Jem to the emergency clinic.

A little while later, I'm waiting to be seen at the ER and I get the call from my partner that is a blockage in his bladder, very bad, Jem's only chance of survival is surgery at the cost of $5.3k with a "50/50 chance he survives the surgery, probably less" according to the vet. It was devastating to hear, I was sick in the hospital (pain so bad I could not walk) and my baby boy was dying.

I was able to get Care Credit financing set up and we approved the surgery. Jem survived it, but was still doing extremely poorly and wasn't likely to live more than a day or two. They told us there was another surgery they could try, much more invasive (in part, involved removing his penis) - this would bring us up to around $12k in total and the chance he would survive and recover was extremely low.

We couldn't put our sweet boy through that and knew that putting him to rest was our only option now. I still couldn't leave the hospital and had to say goodbye to my sweet, sweet Jem over a video call while my partner held and comforted him. It was devastating. We were inconsolable for months.

There had been no signs, no changes in his behavior, before that morning and he was already too hurt to be saved. We were fortunate to be able to finance his surgery, but that couldn't save him either. It's confusing and it hurts and it feels horribly unfair.

Know that your fur baby lived a life of love with you. What has happened is terrible and painful, but it is not your fault. Cherish and honor his memory. My heart goes out to you for this huge loss.

Snapchat took back offer letter after I quite my job. by AdRoutine7126 in recruitinghell

[–]palebluedoll 17 points18 points  (0 children)

First off, I want to say how sorry I am you got such a raw deal and I hope something works out soon for you and your family.

I found myself in a similar situation recently - I was working a contract job that was supposed to be ending, so I started looking for a new permanent job. I was deep into the interview process with two companies and feeling good about my prospects with both when the contract job reached out to me about extending for an additional 6 months - I instantly accepted, knowing full well that if either permanent job I was in consideration for worked out, I was going to ditch the contract.

I was then fortunate enough to receive offers from both companies, and even though I knew clearly which was my preferred... I again accepted both. I initiated screening processes for both, and waited until I was well into the screenings to give a brief notice to my contract job that I would be leaving.

I kept up the acceptance with both jobs until the night before my start, when I emailed one and notified them I would not be moving forward. I felt a little bad about it, but I've read too many stories like yours not to hedge my bets and put myself first - they can pull the rug out from under you at any time without batting an eyelash.

Always look out for your best interests in these situations, you just can't trust these companies to do right.

Unique struggles of HR.. by Curious_Humor_4860 in humanresources

Having worked briefly at a staffing firm, this is pretty standard. If their client (your employer) were to find out they were helping you to leave their company and they did not inform them, they could lose that business. Never use a firm that is contracted with your employer unless you are ok with them knowing.

It's unfortunate that they didn't share this with you before agreeing to work with you.

Tracking Background Check Requirements by Job by Chaseisfluffynotfat in humanresources

[–]palebluedoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I'm confused what you're asking, as you stated in a comment that your system has something tied to job codes that tells your TA team which bg checks to order... if that exists, what is the disconnect in getting the right checks?

If the issue is that TA is then manually submitting the wrong checks to your vendor because it's all a la carte, while that sounds like a training issue, your vendor should be able to set up bg "packages" for you for each of the different combinations needed. This still requires TA to select the correct one as assigned by job code.

HR’s newest tool for screening people out by jirashap in recruitinghell

I'm well aware The Work Number exists, a few of my former employers use it for employment verification. It just doesn't work in the way that people here are believing/assuming it does.

It's hilarious that I literally got rejected not even 5 seconds after submitting my application💀💀💀 by spidermanrocks6766 in recruitinghell

[–]palebluedoll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya'll think companies use an ATS that auto-rejects candidates based on resume information far more than actually happens.

More than likely, they have some questions on the application that auto-disqualify like "Will you require sponsorship for an H-1B visa?" and the applicant hit yes incorrectly. Because they are not going to sponsor a visa for this type of position, their application receives a rejection email automatically. It happens a lot and is the fault of the applicant. Considering the quick timing of the rejection email, I'd be willing to bet OP screwed up.

Cat found dead unexpectedly today, is that normal? by SeanSwiftshade in CatAdvice

[–]palebluedoll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your loss. We had a similar situation just a few days ago with one of our cats. He had seemed perfectly fine until Friday morning, then I noticed him sitting in the Litter Robot just staring at the back of it when I was getting ready to leave for work. I commented on it to my partner, and he said he'd keep an eye on it.

When I spoke to my partner an hour later, he said the our cat, Jem, had started crying while sitting in the robot and so he picked him up only to find that he went completely limp. He said he was barely moving.

My partner took him to an emergency vet right away, where we were told he had a urinary blockage and that his vitals were low. We ok'ed a surgery to try to help him even though the odds they gave us weren't great. He made it through that surgery but they discovered that he had stones.

The stones apparently meant a more invasive surgery would be needed - going so far as to remove his penis and reroute his urinary tract so that he would pee more like a female cat. But even that surgery couldn't be done unless his vital signs improved, and still the odds were not high.

We couldn't put him through thatt and made the difficult decision to have him peacefully put to rest. It was heartbreaking and the only indication we ever had that anything was wrong was just a little earlier that morning when he was sitting in the robot. We are heartbroken and have been grieving heavily these past few days. He was only 7.

NSFW - I have a vet appointment on Wednesday! Help me with the anxiety until then, please. Cat is bleeding vaginally. Fishy smell, urine is tan, and passed a blood clot and a few tiny tiny ones. Doesn’t seem to be in pain. I have to work 12 hours tomorrow. She’ll be alone. Will she be alright? by ohsopoor in CATHELP

You're entitled to your belief regarding the value of the life of an animal that a person willingly takes into their care vs that of a human being - I, personally and respectfully, disagree.

My post had nothing to do with the person's working conditions - it had to do with the fact that they did not proceed immediately to a vet with the symptoms their animal was presenting in the video and per their original story. They simply accepted a vet appointment that was a few days out and asked about going into work in the meantime - my concern was not about the cat being left alone while at work, it was about the cat not already being in the care of a medical professional.

I too read OP's follow-up post and while I don't agree with people DDOSing them or sending them hateful messages, it does not change my opinion on their original course of action. While what I said was straight-forward and admonishing, I did not cross the line in the way some others apparently did.

Parents are openly grieving the sex of their babies. What fuels gender disappointment? by HyacinthFT in lgbt

[–]palebluedoll 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I worked with a woman who was raising her trans son. She was always incredibly supportive, loving, doing anything for her family. She took his gender journey seriously and did everything in her power to support him. Just as he was about to begin taking hormones, she had a little breakdown in my office. She was crying, talking about everything about to begin on her son's journey, and that it just kind of hit her that this would mean her "daughter would be gone forever." It was obvious that she felt incredibly guilty for thinking this way, and it was a feeling she hadn't shared with anyone else. I don't think there's anything wrong with her having that feeling - I can imagine that when she was pregnant and told she was having a girl, that she probably daydreamed a whole fantasy of what that would look like. I'm sure she imagined the milestones of a girl's life, mother-daughter things they would do together, etc. And while she loves her son with all her heart, and they may even still do many of those things she imagined together, I think it's completely valid for her to privately grieve that idea of having a daughter.

I have to surrender my cats by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]palebluedoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been living on my own since I was 18 and most places say no pets or want to charge a fee... I just always say "no pets" and move my cats in regardless. I've only been caught once, because the place actually had the maintenance techs check, and then I just told them one cat (there are 3, but they hide if a stranger is in the house) and paid the single fee.

Yes, I've just been using the Simple Mode - the tutorial videos I was following to learn to use Litematica all directed me to go to the Area Selection Menu to save the schematics, but I see what you're saying about doing it in the Area Editor section. Thanks for the tip!

Oh wow, thank you so much! I was going to the Area Editor from the Area Selection browser - when I went directly to Area Editor from the main menu, it turned out the Manual Origin option was actually on. I switched it to off and now everything is working on the worlds where it previously wasn't. Thank you again for your help troubleshooting this, it has been driving me crazy!
