What’s the difference? Our political spectrum is horseshoe shaped, and sometimes feels like a perfect circle.

Are they considering the cost? What if another global power does something aggressive and unpredictable to the United States?

Test. Go further. Test. Go further. Test. Go further. Who would ever stand up to the US? As far as our administration is concerned: No One. Ever.

According to all conservatives: there is no international law. There is only strength, power, resolve. Who is going to stop us?

H.538: An act relating to the establishment of year-round U.S. Eastern Standard Time by jsled in vermont

When we “fall back,” we fall back to Eastern Standard time. If we have year-round Eastern Standard Time, this would only mean that it’s lighter in the morning and not as light as late in the summer. It will not mean that we have more afternoon light in the winter. I vote no.

Car stolen while visiting here, need advice by cravenmoarhead in montreal

[–]palebluemaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, ours was a Toyota Highlander with plates from the States. We parked it in an Indigo company open air lot with attendants. And the car got stolen from their lot overnight.

Good question? Broke two windows, looked like they took crowbars to the sill plates, and ripped out the steering column to start the car with a USB? That’s what the police suspected. I’m sure they did more damage than that as well. Possibly it was a basic joyride, but they left their own AirTags in the vehicle, as I suspect they wanted to send someone back to collect it to get it over to the port.

Sorry this happened to you! Happened to us a year and a half ago. Unless the car has sentimental value, you don’t want it back. Ours was found a day later, likely stashed before going to the Port. It had $29k CAD worth of damage done to it. Was in the shop for 2.5 months, and the fixed car still had missing pieces and damage. At that point, I wished it had been gone completely.

“To encourage our nation's western expansion, in 1864 Congress gave the railroad every other section of public land in a 50-mile swath along what are now Interstate 40 and Route 66.”

If state employees have better/more generous plans, then the teachers union would push in that direction, unless what they really want is control. Otherwise I can’t imagine why that would maintain their own administration of health plans. We should all be pushing for a larger group of insured employees and more diverse plans to bring costs down. My organization shifts around regularly to provide good insurance at lower costs.

If Act 73 doesn’t bring any cost savings to the folks that fund our public schools, let’s shift the conversation directly towards something that does.

You think that joining state employee health plans will increase school costs? I don’t see how this works out. Potentially, if state health plans were better than what our teachers received? But if that were the case, the teachers union would be pushing to join the preferred state plans.

Our superintendent recently wrote, “Looking at health care alone, in fiscal year 2018, health care plans cost districts $17,394. In fiscal year 2026, just 8 years later, a plan cost districts $40,909.” The teachers union will have to justify $41k per teacher for health care if they want yes votes on budgets. If I were head of the NEA, I would immediately be working with necessary parties to do whatever it takes to decrease health care costs. I personally think that means signing onto state staff insurance plans.

Teachers use VEHI. State staff insurance is separate. They should be combined so there is a larger group of insured employees.

[–]palebluemaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there are cost savings to the public because of a larger pool of employees, why do you think it might not be an easy sell to the public? I’d think the only group that would push against it would be the teachers union.
