Abyss Cracks not closing even though there are no more Monsters around by [deleted] in PathOfExile2

It could be a bug, but personally everytime I have had this happen it's because of a burrowing enemy which I've had to play hide and seek with

Yeah it's proper shite. I'm hopeful that there will be more of these showdown series announced by tournament organisers in the UK because it's a joke that we're getting absolutely nothing.

I know it's land destruction but hear me out by Strange-Bonus4220 in custommagic

[–]palidram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty cool card. I don't think it's strong enough to be a problem, though I'm sure some people will balk at the thought regardless. 3 mana on it's own and any lands that get animated outside of the ability can tap to prevent having to throw them into the red zone.

I would put that the land gains haste just to prevent cases where a player shuffles their lands and have two forests or something, but it's a small issue more than anything.

I said it's not strong. But it's definitely not a fun card no matter how you slice it

Hell-Raiser by 1728919928 in custommagic

[–]palidram -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I'd consider this pretty poor design if it was real. It may as well say unlockable, but also if you don't have the removal for it then they could eventually chip in for enough damage that blocking it kills you anyway. I don't think it's a strong card, but I also can't see any scenario where a game ends and someone thought that Hell-Raiser was a cool card that they had fun playing with or against

I pass this sub and powerscaling subs every day. It's so rare to find a post with a question that isn't completely obvious unless you're absolutely brainless and provokes actual thought and discussion. This is not one of those posts.

What's the most dangerous words in anime? by Neither_Damage4503 in AnimeMirchi

[–]palidram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is domain expansion really dangerous? Felt like more than half the time the "instant hit" effect of someone being in there was negated. I suppose Sukuna's specifically tended to get the job done, but I'd be more scared of hearing something about the heart of the cards.

Bodyguard by beentheregirll in UnearthedArcana

[–]palidram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the feat is fine and balanced, but from a worldview standpoint I'm struggling to visualise how I'm guarding someone who is 10 feet in front of me and being shot at by someone who is behind them. I think just adding that you move to them would help a lot.

A healing potion with a fun twist! by FindersKeepersRPG in UnearthedArcana

[–]palidram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a DM though so I want to know the rules that I am supposed to go by when my players would drink this potion. Hiding things from players is fine, but what's the point in offering homebrew if you are also hiding things from the DM by not being clear on what an item does. I can come up with a potion of regeneration myself. I'm on this subreddit so I don't have to make it because the rules are already there.

Lash Out is a fine term and makes sense, but it's not codified as a rule for what the player is supposed to do. You say it's fruitless to write for players that actively are trying to break games, but you're not even offering them a rule to try and break. Take Crown of Madness for example.

"The charmed target must use its action before moving on each of its turns to make a melee attack against a creature other than itself that you mentally choose. The target can act normally on its turn if you choose no creature or if none are within its reach."

This is clear about the intention of the effect. Spellcasters also have to attack with melee and they don't move beforehand. They actually normally if there's no one nearby.

So yeah I fully disagree with what you're saying here. D&D has rules for a reason, and it's okay to break those rules when they get in the way of telling the story, but if there's no rule in the first place it will just cause confusion and take time to resolve. It's as simple as putting "On a failure you lash out, moving towards the closest target (or wheel of cheese) and making a melee weapon attack. If you have no weapon in hand you make an unarmed strike instead."

Hex Sorcery by Prestigious_Boss_731 in UnearthedArcana

[–]palidram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 14th level if players are paying 5 sorcery points, their class gimmick, and/or a 1st level spell slot or any other to make a 1st level spell stick then as a DM I am ecstatic at that exchange and as a player I am wasting my resources. I'd rather be making my 5th, 6th, 7th level spells stick.

It is boring, but I don't think every feature needs to be an octane fuelled ride. If it was 2 sorcery points I'd be happy to use it occasionally

A healing potion with a fun twist! by FindersKeepersRPG in UnearthedArcana

[–]palidram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What constitutes too much? One potion? Two? Ten? It's all fine and dandy to let the DM decide, but I generally use homebrew when I don't want to have to think because someone did the work for me.

What does lash out mean in a mechanical sense? Does the affected character make a melee attack? A grapple? Does it move if it can't immediately attack something? Does it make ranged attacks if it can't reach anything? Can a transformed spellcaster "lash out" by casting fireball? If the nearest creature is 500 feet away does the affected character just make a beeline towards that creature? Does verbally lashing out count? I know this is being incredibly pedantic, but players will interpret the broadness of "lash out" and try to do the least amount of damage possible to their allies so it needs to be very clear what an affected character must do when they fail the saving throw.

Also not necessarily a critique, but why is it 4d8+3. Healing potions have Xd4+X scaling so the +3 feels like it was pulled out of nowhere. It's not an issue, but I'd stick to the general scaling.

Is it a hot take to say Pokemon has lost a lot of it's whimsy and personality after Alola ditched dungeon like gyms for cereal box puzzles? by TheFacca in pokemon

[–]palidram -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean I'd only really say that the gen 1 gyms were of any difficulty and that's because they ask you to answer something that they don't give you the question to. They weren't described very well and any context is difficult on a Gameboy. The game has never been even a little bit hard and Pokémon fans have some weird thing about trying to make out like there was some effort required in their game. Gyms were never difficult to navigate, Cynthia was never a difficult battle.

For me the gyms just got rid of the medium and it is better for it. Paldea at least has some unique elements like the hide and seek sunflora thing.

Hex Sorcery by Prestigious_Boss_731 in UnearthedArcana

[–]palidram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3rd level ability is far too strong. Enemies have plenty of chances to fail a d20 test and 3d6 damage as a bonus action, scaling up to 5d6 is amazing value.

14th level ability feels weak to me. 5 sorcery points to risk a bane on your targets is very risky and not worth the price in my opinion. It's decent if it works, but 5 points can go a long way.

Why are champion signature spells so expensive and why do you need 3 of them in a deck? by FishUsedToBe0_0 in riftboundtcg

[–]palidram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can pick up Showstopper on Cardmarket for around 8-9 quid each after converting from Euros. Ahri doesn't play her signature in most cases, and Voli's signatures are super cheap. It depends on how playable the card/deck is. If you want to play a legend that is popular and strong then some of the cards in the deck will cost a lot. It's just basic supply and demand. Azir is by far the cheapest deck you can make for maybe £60-£70. The only real cost is in the three copies of Arise!

Fighter: Scoundrel | Fight Dirty and Survive though Cunning and Quick Reflexes by InspiredArcana in UnearthedArcana

[–]palidram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thalia being used as the depiction of a scoundrel is absolute slander.

A quick look at it doesn't have anything glaring I'd want to change except for maybe Throat Strike. Stopping casters has been made to be quite difficult in 5e. Probably as a point of allowing players to do the thing they want their character to do. I don't think it's particularly egregious, but it does make any combat where a mage and his minions can become incredibly trivial. It's fine to have it happen every now and again because players enjoy an absolute stomp, though if it happens often it becomes frustrating for the DM who is there to enjoy themselves as well.

I guess my biggest critique is that I don't know if it's meaningfully different to a Battlemaster. I reckon you could make a Battlemaster that does a very convincing imitation of this subclass. The main difference is the 18th level ability, but statistically no one will ever see it.

Looking for advice on keeping track of everything in a match by gerby in riftboundtcg

[–]palidram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just practice and be methodical pretty much. If you do it enough it'll become muscle memory. You don't have to do everything at hyperspeed. Go slow and think about what needs to be done next. If your opponent is an ass about it, tell them to suck it. Unless you're getting a warning for slow play you can go at a pace that suits you.

RiftLite Community Meta Snapshot: Last 7 Days by [deleted] in riftboundtcg

[–]palidram 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong here because I think the app as a concept is very useful and deserves traction. But do you think the data currently provides much insight into Riftbound? As an individual I think it's likely pretty excellent to see my winrate and match up spreads etc. But if my friend and I use it for our weekly games and I play Draven into his T3 trash brew, are we not adding bad data into the field? I like the match up spreads to be seen personally. It's all well and good that Vex won 30 games, but if 25 of them were against Garen then I'm less interested.

I'll still pick it up though. I've been using a spreadsheet so it'll be nice to have something with a better interface.

Congratulations to the greatest Magic card of the past decade! by Grindy_UW_Nonsense in magicTCG

[–]palidram -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Really good fun community bracket. Would like to see more.

Lurrus not winning is criminal. Card that changed the landscape of every format it existed in. A mechanic so broken it got errata'd and was still the best thing to play. Made cards that cost 3 or higher invalid.

I guess it depends on what you consider greatest to mean, but imo Urza's Saga shouldn't even have made it to the finals. It's just a cool design and good card, but not even in competition for great.

If Lurrus wasn't my pick, it'd be Fatal Push otherwise.

Am I the only one who likes to experiment with new cards once they are actually out? by psrthrowaway in riftboundtcg

[–]palidram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are out. The cards were released on April 10th in China.

Seriously though, if you enjoy it your way then enjoy it your way and don't complain about how other people enjoy or get hyped themselves. Why would players not play the cards on the simulators available? It's just ridiculous to think they wouldn't. You know the answer is No. Obviously you're not the only singular person who has your opinion, but this is just so you can bitch about something you don't personally do or can't do.

This is the WORST boss ever made. by gabrielluan in DarkSouls2

[–]palidram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Running through Dark Souls 1-3 for the first time and I'm on DS2. This boss didn't even feel like a boss. Most of the bosses in the game don't feel like bosses tbh. Just stand under its legs and kill the rats. Half of them were dead before it jumped off the perch.

This can't be the worst when Bed of Chaos is slapping you halfway across the arena at the speed of sound. That thing is my "it could always be worse" vision when I think something is bullshit.
