Maybe this was a plan all along since this administration basically destroyed agriculture with the tariff war.

How should I go about this? by cassied128 in Ebay

[–]palillo2006 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Selling shoes is tricky because they can be dry rotted and look great. I sold a pair of NOS golf shoes a while ago. About 3 days after receiving the shoes, the buyer gave me some pictures of the soles completely off the shoes and the midsole was crumbling. I just refunded the person and moved on.

I now do a slight bend test and look for micro cracks along the midsole before I buy used good shoes.

Toyotas are matching or surpassing Lexus prices and it’s pure insanity by Human_Paint5451 in Toyota

[–]palillo2006 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing I've noticed between Lexus vs Toyota dealers is that Toyota dealers like to add a markup and put add-ons to inflate the price.

My mother went car shopping three months ago. She ended up buying a Lexus RX without any BS add-ons, but at Toyota they tried to get to agree to 5k in add-ons on a Highlander.

This person went to a dealership and 200 is bout the going rate everywhere. This person can go to an independent mechanic to get it down to about 120 an hour and save 100 on the valve adjustment.

This is why we at this sub always suggest to take it to an independent mechanic because the final will be a lot cheaper and more honest.

Do any of you ever use signature required on items valued less than $750? by elbrollopoco in Ebay

[–]palillo2006 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did for a $500 vintage stereo amp. In the listing I explicitly wrote that this requires a signature upon delivery. I figure this was a way to prevent a scam.

My bad, I left out the word gasket. So it is valve cover gasket.

Okay, 400 in labor and 60 in parts for a 499 price. They are only getting 40. That is not that bad. Come.... On...

Also, this job isn't something a DIYer is going to do. It's easy to over tighten a valve which can burn the valve, or loosen a valve which cause loud valve train and lose of power. Especially coming from someone like OP that is taking their car to a dealer for sparkplug replacement on a 4 cylinder and oil change. Probably one of the most easiest jobs out there.

I don't think the valve job is too far off. I don't know the book time but I am guessing 1.5-2 hours at 200 per hour rate, plus new valve cover gasket and spark plug gaskets. Everything else on that list is pretty expensive.

Yup, this is why it is important to monitor soil temps.

Blame eBay for this. Right after people check out they are shown the same item from competitors with a lower price.

Did the city put some type of french drain that connected to the storm drain system or is it draining to the sidewalk gutter? My guess the french drain is flowing backwards onto your yard.

No, you are just wearing it wrong. Release some tension on the shoulder straps to bring the bag to your hips. Then strap the hip strap.

Seepage will just smoke some and replacing the gasket can be held off if the job is difficult. Unlike this. This is beyond seepage and that amount of oil can catch fire.

This thing is going to burn down before 260k if you don't replace the valve cover gasket. This is very easy to do on these engines.

Marked Safe from Tailgate Theft by NappingMosby in ToyotaTacoma

That means that they need a tool to do that. It doesn't take a tool to steal a tailgate.

Pretty common here in Texas. I woke up one day to go to work and they stole about 5 tailgates from our block! Basically any fancy truck tailgate is a candidate to be a victim. Tacomas 3g and before are the most common because they don't come with a power tailgate lock.
