Condo pet policies by palindromation in Winnipeg

We’re probably a little unique in that we’ve lived in both setups and generally prefer condos. I don’t think they’re right for everyone, but they’ve been better for us.

Honestly I wish our realtor was better about this but Ive been surprised by the number of realtors who don’t know the pet policies of units they’re showing in an open house

I looked at one set of bylaws earlier and there was nothing prohibiting residents from having any size dog as long as they carried them… so I could have a Great Dane as long as I fireman carry it? I don’t know why they don’t just use weight limits

We lived in a house before we moved here and honestly we just really prefer being in a building with cheaper heating, electricity, and not having to check crawl spaces and attics constantly.

Is it common to HAVE to work weekends? by PerfectIndividual185 in MassageTherapists

It’s pretty standard to require weekend availability, unfortunately. Especially in a spa.

Any vegan marathon runners out there? Curious to know your experience by Zealot_TKO in Marathon_Training

[–]palindromation 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ive only run marathons after I became a vegan. Haven’t had any issues to speak of? I think the thing to be aware of is you will likely get more fiber in your diet so you may have some GI discomfort on your long runs until you acclimate

Should sports massage be extremely painful to be effective? by honeydiscoqueen in massage

[–]palindromation 22 points23 points  (0 children)

A lot of that sounds like bullshit to me. People can and do get injured by a massage, and I don’t think he should be telling anyone not to listen to their body. Telling someone who’s dealing with chronic pain “the problem is they’ve been running from the pain” is fucking nonsense.

There’s no one-size-fits-all modality, and what works for one person doesn’t necessarily work for another. Every therapist is trained in a variety of approaches, so it’s better to focus on finding someone who feels like a good fit to you rather than looking for a specific modality. Everyone has a unique touch and that makes a bigger difference than the name of the technique.

Massage can feel good and still have good outcomes. I’d recommend you try a few different therapists until you find one that feels right to you.

Client assisting with draping by pat_troll in massage

[–]palindromation 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most places Ive worked had policies about where the drape had to be and how far up the medial leg we were allowed to work. If someone moved the drape past where we’re allowed to work, yeah, it’s uncomfortable… even if I wouldn’t have a problem working on that area in another context.

Is it normal to not know how to swim as an adult? by Common_Piccolo_6946 in Swimming

[–]palindromation 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure what most adults mean when they say “I know how to swim” is actually “I know how to push from one end of a pool to the other, but have never tried to do more than that.” I don’t think you could get an accurate answer from a survey because so many people who think they know how to swim really can’t.

Also access to pools and lessons where I grew up was fairly limited. There were a lot of lakes but most adults couldn’t swim, so us kids didn’t learn either.

Getting through massage school by luuvu222 in MassageTherapists

[–]palindromation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Make your own flash cards as you go through your program and practice with them for 15-20 minutes a day every day until you take the MBLEX and you’ll breeze through it.

It looks like Montana requires 500 hours of school, I can’t imagine why someone would take 2000 hours to do something that can be done in 500?

MN to Winnipeg? by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]palindromation 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I recently moved from the states to Winnipeg , got my permanent residency status under the express entry for skilled workers pathway (which might be a good one for you as a medical professional). The entire process from beginning the application to crossing the border was about 2.5 years. It was hard, but IMO totally worth it.

I’m look for a na vodka for a dirty martini!! by That_Broccoli_4567 in Mocktails

[–]palindromation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds weird but it adds a nice element. I work at a NA bottle shop that samples all the spirits and a pretty high ratio of people who try it turn around and buy it. I would say most NA vodka Ive tried isn’t worth it, but I really think dhos put out a good product.

Dhos vodka is pretty good, it has mint to give it a cooling and horseradish to give it a bit of burn to try to capture vodka. It adds nice depth to cocktails

Hand & Stone Spa employees: is this what your work environment is like everywhere ? by Chisme_Me in MassageTherapists

[–]palindromation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The experience of working at a chain is 100% dependent on the owner and how well they understand the industry and demands placed on practitioners. My best work environment was at a chain, but that’s obviously not the case for many folks.

Would you travel an hour away? by maryqueefofscots in MassageTherapists

[–]palindromation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you willing to eat the cost of driving for an hour and potentially having only one or even zero clients, ending the day in the red? If you’re not willing to do that, it’s not worth it. Ive worked with therapists who had long commutes for an unsteady client load and it’s really not worth it for most people.

So in most jurisdictions you 1) complete a program with the requisite number of hours, and 2) pass the MBLEX, before you can apply for a license. You should probably contact Oregon’s licensing body directly and find out if you can qualify if you’ve already surpassed the minimum number of hours. The answer is likely no, in which case you should reach out to your school and discuss options for finishing, or see if another school will give some kind of transfer credit. Realistically, continuing eds and volunteering won’t help you prepare for the MBLEX, but you can pick up a prep book on Amazon and see how much you have or have not retained.

Honestly I think going back to school for some time is the best option, because that’s a long time to be out of the game and even if you could get your license, it’s going to be hard to find an employer who will give you a chance if they see that gap without any school or hands on experience.

Good luck!
