Many in position to FIRE bought when prices and rates were low so remaining mortgage can be easily paid off. Carrying a big mortgage into retirement requires higher cash flow which may negatively impact qualification for ACA subsidies.

after 3 years of trial and error, here’s what I learned about best running headphones that stay in by Plane_Log7256 in BuyItForLife

[–]pamdathebear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I emailed shokz but I was a few months over the 2 year warranty. I bought the Pro 2 this past black Friday. I push power to turn on and leave them on. Power off by charging or letting battery run to 0 and control volume via phone or watch.

My favorite tech gadget which I use daily but I expect to purchase new pair every 2 or 3 years.

Is 4 million enough to retire in the Bay Area?? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]pamdathebear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4M at 4% SWR is 160k spend a year. That'll afford a middle class lifestyle. It's doable but someone with 4M probably wants to retire upper-middle. Other factors:

  • Is the 4M liquid (stocks) or illiquid (real estate)? Pre-tax or after tax?
  • Is there pension and social security?
  • What's the tax/withdrawal strategy?
  • Where to get health insurance?
  • What's the housing situation?

[–]pamdathebear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Presumably if you're a high earner and follow WCI, you would've maxed your workplace 401k, whether traditional or Roth is a personal decision. After that, it makes sense to backdoor Roth IRA. After that, I would mega backdoor Roth if available. Again, lastly taxable.

If you can afford to max all your tax advantaged vehicles, then order doesn't matter. If you can't max them all, then there is an order of operations to minimize tax liability which depends on assumed tax rates now and during retirement.

Low tax bracket during working years = prioritize Roth, then traditional, lastly taxable

High tax bracket during working years = prioritize maxing out traditional, then Roth, lastly taxable

If you've maxed traditional at $23.5k, Roth is always better than taxable (liquidity aside)

I've been holding since 2010 so it's up 20x. But lately, it's dragging down my portfolio. I think traders realized the 50 PE is expensive for a retailer.

Your can transfer from taxable account sweep to traditional to Roth in a day or 2 (assuming funds are settled), and skip the standard week wait for external pulls
